Proposed Sensitivity Options

Ever since the original Halo, players have been plagued with the notion of having to use a separate X / Y axis for sensitivity, aim assist, and a capped look acceleration. Players who choose a lower sensitivity are punished by being unable to turn around quickly or if an opponent jumps they are unable to move their crosshair fast enough to respond to the attacker. Below is a suggested option that would be most beneficial to the entire Halo community.

An option to switch between “classic” sensitivity and a “custom” sensitivity. The players accustomed to the sensitivity in the current halo games aren’t affected and the players who dislike the current system have the option to create their own. It is a win/win for everyone.

This is an easy 10 minute hotfix, I’ll even write it for you for free.

This is what it should look like:

Sensitivity Type - Classic / Custom

Classic - 1--------10

Custom - X Axis 1--------10 / Y Axis 1--------10

Look Acceleration - On / Off

Aim Assist - On / Off

(after previewing this doesn’t look like what i created, apparently extra spaces are erased.)

Players feel free to comment on whether or not you would like to see this kind of a change. I have yet to see a game where the community can influence a change and a game designer actually do it. Hopefully this can be a first (small) step.

Why not use higher sensitivity?

the only thing I could agree with is disabling Aim Assist

other than than that I couldn’t agree anymore

> the only thing I could agree with is disabling Aim Assist

On the contrary, aim assist is necessary for console play with thumbstick controllers. Have you noticed how hard it is to aim at friendlies during campaign or teammates during multiplayer? That would be what the game would be like if aim assist was off- woefully painful. Maybe you could turn off aim assist and have success with a Wiimote or PSMove? I’m not sure; I haven’t used either for shooters.

People need to realise consoles have to have aim assist. Have to.
But I do not see your point OP, just use a higher sensitivity?

Well, aim assist is necessary, but having separate sensitivity for both axes would be useful.

Why would anyone want aim assist off? It does more good than harm.

> Why not use higher sensitivity?

I use 10 sensitivity, and still have issues with moving diagonally.

This also has nothing to do with my personal settings, I’ve read 3 other threads about this same topic already. Also, if you raise your sensitivity for the purpose of being able to turn faster, you lose precision in the process. This is something that should not happen in any shooter (and doesn’t as far as i know).

Have you ever been locked in a 1v1 DMR battle with an opponent, and another opponent races across the screen? The aim assist will pick up the new opponent and actually take your aim OFF of the guy you were originally shooting. Needless to say, you’ve just lost that DMR fight.

Chances are, without the aim assist, you would’ve lost the fight to begin with. You don’t realize how necessary aim assist is for a shooter on console. Next time you have you’re playing Reach, try to shoot your teammates with a precision weapon while they are moving. You’ll see how hard it is. Controllers are actually horrible input devices. A mouse is much better. So to solve this problem, developers put in aim assist.

So while the situation you described sucks, aim assist does way more good than harm.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand where you’re coming from. I know it helped me a lot back when I first started out. But now, many years later, I have outgrown its use and it is now becoming a hindrance. I don’t see what the problem is if I have the option to turn it off, that doesn’t hurt anyone else. It is an available option in many console shooters. Just as the option to change X / Y axis sensitivities individually.

Ok? So this one in a thousand scenario is worth not being to aim at all ever?

haha

And what’s the point of having different sensitivities on the different axis? That would feel really weird.

lol derp

I would like a more in-depth control scheme, one that allows a multitude of things to be done with just a few swipes.

Each thumb-stick getting its own speed is nice.

op wants a severly lowered aim assist, one that doesn’t drag your reticle when someone darts across, that should never happen- the smallest amount of aim assist should be applied that’s neccessary for online play- but not that dragging the reticule crap- that does my head in
