Prophet of Regret's death orchestrated by Truth?

The Prophet of Regret was a very…Interesting character to me. I never thought that the Covenant would have a San 'Shyuum that drinks and smokes as a leader. In the past he has made many mistakes as a leader and upset other prophets maybe to the point where they would organize his death. Youy are probably thinking to yourself “Thats dumb, show me some evidence”. Don’t worry, I already have it covered. So, I was looking through ONI files when I saw this:

So I typed it in Google to find that someone decoded it. I was intrigued, and read it:

Letter from Truth to Mercy about Regret
To thine own eyes, Prophet of Mercy
Dearest Brother,
I hope this finds you well. My sorrow and anger precede me with regard to the atrocity and heresy at Halo. We shall avenge this destruction with some of our own.
Work proceeds apace on our battle plan. The Sangheili will do what is asked of them, and the Jiralhanae will show the humans what our strength looks like at close quarters.
But this message concerns neither the planning nor the discovery of the Human homeworld. Rather I question Brother Regret’s suitability for this great purpose.
I am aware of his tenacity and ambition, but I believe his youth and feckless reaching may prove to be grave risks to the perfection of this undertaking. You have noted his rashness in the past, and yet neither of us has acted. I suggest that we continue as planned, but we would both do well to pay mind to Brother Regret, and provide wisdom and guidance as needed. This matter is too important to be left to inexperienced hands. Piety is no substitute for wisdom.
Perhaps I worry too much. You know I embrace caution, but we cannot have inexperience or arrogance at this great juncture.
Be pure, be vigilant, and never rest.
By my own hand
Prophet of Truth

Truth does not find Regret as a suitable leader of the Fleet of Glorious Intradiction, or the Covenant. He has failed too many times and now The Prophet of Truth wants him gone. This is most likely why the Second Fleet of Homogeneous Clarity arrived so late. it’s almost as if they were waiting for our good friend Lod Mron, to die.

What do you think? I would also like to thank Taeonas117 for decoding this, it was a really big help.

We know that Truth stopped reinforcements from helping Regret and instead chose to glass the temple. Truth was a power hungry schemer and he wanted both of the other hierarchs out of the way so he could be the sole leader of the Covenant.

Seems pretty legit.

I’m a firm believer that Truth purposefully pulled back the Honor Guard so that the Chief could kill Regret. He’s a schemer and wanted himself as the sole leader of the Covenant. He was also waiting for an opportunity to replace the Honor Guard sangheili with the jiralhanae and having them “fail” in guarding the Hierarch was the perfect excuse to hand the torch over.

You did a good job reading my mind!

That’s kind’ve why people fail to realize that Halo 2 isn’t a game about the Master Chief. Nothing the Chief does has any real effect on the plot, with everything that happens in Halo 2 being guaranteed to happen at one point or another - Truth had always intended to have Mercy and Regret killed, and always intended to replace the Elites with the Brutes.

Yeah, with a universe that encompasses thousands of years, I find it odd that everything has to be about 117.

Was there any reason given why Truth didn’t just glass the temple when master chief went in or at the very least was close to the temple? You point out something that I’ve never thought about and that is why did Truth fire on the temple? Did he know that Regret was killed, and if so how did he? Also if he did just glass the temple to kill Regret than how would he justify it to the other members of the cruiser?

Uh…Have you never played Halo 2? It quite clearly shows the fleet never arrived until Chief was literally entering the temple. They were sending in rescue phantoms, and an entire fleet down to the location of where Regret was immediately. They can’t just glass the temple from space you know…right? If they tried that, the Halo ring’s defensives would’ve activated, posing them as a threat, and would’ve literally obliterated them all right then and there.

Yes I have played halo 2, ok if the fleet was there when the master chief entered the temple than why did they not just fire right then and there? Truth wanted both master chief and Regret dead and that seems like the best way to kill two birds with one stone, I was going off of what RxZ Gh0styKarma said about them stopping “reinforcements from helping Regret and instead chose to glass the temple” so I don’t think they sent phantoms in if they were just going to glass the temple, yes I know they couldn’t just glass it from space (I have played halo wars 2). I think I wasn’t clear on my question(s), sorry about that.

The impression I got from the game was that the elites already on the ring were on their way to help Regret when Truth’s fleet arrived. Truth ordered them to withdraw and sent a cruiser to glass the temple, hoping to kill Chief and Regret.

Umm, they did glass part of the ring. Where were the defensive system when that was happening?
