I never really understood how to pronounce the Covenant names, like Sangheili and Unngoy.
Does anyone in the community know these? I’ll post them in the OP if people post them in the thread.
Sangheili (Elites) - Song-heely
Unngoy (Grunts) - Un--Yoink!-
Jiralhanae (Brutes) - Gee-Row-Hon-Ay
Yanme’e (Buggers) - Yon-Me
San 'Shyuum (Prophets) - San-Shy-Oom
Mgalekgolo (Hunters/Scarab) - Mega-Lek-Golo
Kig-Yar (Jackals) - Kig-Yaargh (pirate voice)
Huragok (Engineers) - Hurra-Kok
Sang-heel-e
Un--Yoink!-

I only know one pronunciation that may be correct. In Halo Wars, the shipboard A.I. says “jee-rall-HAW-nay” (jiralhanae; brutes). I pronounce it “jer-RALL-ha-NAY,” myself.
Here are the ways that I personally pronounce the rest:
Sangheili: sang-GEE-lee
Unggoy: UNG--Yoink!-
Huragok: Her-ah-GOCK
Yanme’e: YAN-mee-ay (whenever I see an apostrophe like that, I reflexively make special pronunciation of the letters following; I doubt you’re supposed to.)
Kig-yar: KIG-yar
Mgalekgolo: Gae-LECK-go-low
Lekgolo: stu-pid-worm-pee-pull
San’shyuum: SAN-shee-umm
> Huragok (Engineers) - Hurra-Kok
i thought it was pronounced like it was spelt

This is how I pronounce each of the species’ names.
Sangheili - I often switch back and forth between San-ghe-lee and Sang-hee-lee
Unngoy - Ung--Yoink!-
Jiralhanae - Ji-Rawl-Ha-Nay
Yanme’e - Yan-may
San 'Shyuum - San-Shyoom
Mgalekgolo - Mega-Lek-Golo
Kig-Yar - Kig-Yar
Huragok - Hyura-gok
Sangheili = Sang-hee-lee
Jiralhanae = Ji-ral-han-ay
Unggoy = Ung--Yoink!-
Yanme’e = Yan-may-ah

I always thought that it went:

HER-UH-GOCK (engineers)
LECK-GO-LOW or ME-GA-LECK-GO-LOW (hunters)
I say:
Sang geel ee - Elite
Ji rahl ha nay - Brutes
Ung -Yoink!- - Grunts
Kig yar is pretty self explanatory.
San shee yoom - Prophets
Her a gok - Engineers
Leg kolo - Hunters.
I just do it all phonetically.
I always pronounced ‘Sangheili’ Sang-elly, but in Spartan Ops it’s pornounced Sang-ee-ly. I some of the videos under the “Universe” section on Waypoint, the narrator says Yan-may-a for Yanme’e, and San-si-oom for San 'Shyuum.
Some official videos here on Waypoint about the Covenant species have the correct pronunciation in it.

I was reading my halo book then. Huragok pulled up i knew they were engineers but i couldnt pronounce it!!! I can do all names now Just needed the last word.
