I’ll start this off by saying I’ve played every Halo Legendary Solo, and I’m partway through Halo 5 on Legendary.
Promethean combat is simply no fun. From the way the soldiers absorb bullets, the way they warp around, the way the dog soldiers run around, its simply a chore. They have no character, and even the way they die isn’t even satisfying. I won’t even start on the Warden Eternal fights.
I know 343 wants to push “their” enemy in their games, but for me at least, its just not fun.
Any Covenant fight is better. I’d rather fight the Flood. At least those enemies are satisfying and engaging to play against.
The Crawlers or “dogs” were at least a little bit more interesting in Halo 4 when they could climb walls and shoot you from weird angles, sort of like the old Covenant Drone unit.
Soldier teleporting does feel a bit weird…maybe they could actually teleport to strategic places, e.g. try to surround you or get behind your cover, to spice it up a bit.
I remember Knights from Halo 4 trying to make more use of their jumping and sword abilities to get in your face, while in Halo 5 they seem to be content with just pecking at you from range.
Watchers used to use their repair and shielding abilities much more liberally, making them a priority target unless you wanted to get annoyed real fast. They also liked to retreat when you did try to kill them, making them extremely slippery little trolls. Now they just float around aimlessly most of the time.
In general, some sort of more interesting Promethean weapon would help, and then give that new weapon to some units.

Now that you mention it, Prometheans in H4 did seem to have way better AI
I agree with this. Enemy AI is dumber, but much more erratic, and more numerous. There seems to be little to no rhyme or reason for the constant teleportation. They do it even when they aren’t being attacked or interacted with in any discernable way.
I don’t know if H5’s Legendary is considered more difficult or not, but I imagine that if it is, it’s because there are far more enemies in a given area than there might otherwise be, and they just teleport randomly around constantly, making it difficult to focus on a single one.
Even on Easy mode they are tricky to kill just because you have to chase them down.
Knights in this game are a complete joke. Their “armor” was tricky to figure out for about 30 seconds. Crawlers don’t do anything. Watchers, in the rare circumstance that they even showed up, did nothing. Soldiers were tricky, but more annoying to deal with than a true challenge. And while the warden was tough, he certainly wasn’t fun to fight 10 times or whatever.
Overall, I think the covenant fights were much more challenging than the promethean fights. That was FAR from the case in Halo 4 and I’d much prefer how it was in Halo 4.

I couldn’t put my finger on it but this is exactly it. It’s like the crawlers are dumber. Wall crawling was cool and made them seem to have a purpose. Did they really get rid of this and why? Knights are harder to kill now that it takes longer to head shot them but they’re easier to fight. I don’t really care for soldiers. They’re just kinda thrown in there with no purpose. Halo introduced Knights very well making them get all in cheifs face. I swear something happened in the creation of halo 5. Sabotage, major technical issues, or laziness but something definitely happened they won’t admit.

Couldn’t u like 5 shot them in the face? I remember being able to pop off the face plate and one shot them. Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly but they were easier for me while being worthy opponents

I really like the difficulty of the prometheans in H4. When you got up to a pack you almost panicked. I blew right through this campaign on solo legendary and I was really disappointed. Especially after beating H1 and H2 in MCC and then playing H5…the earlier games put you through absolute hell solo legendary, and now I feel like if you cant beat H5 on legendary solo, you kind of shouldnt be playing the game.
The problem I had with Knights is that they were simply bullet sponges, they weren’t challenging as much as annoying. I definitely don’t remember being able to “5 shot” them in the face…
The crawlers were fun, but the watchers were annoying because they would fly away every time you shot at them. It seemed like I always missed that last shot before they made it to cover.
I really enjoyed the promethean in Halo 4, but I just don’t like them now. They just kinda do random robot stuff for no reason. Knights now just stand in one place and shoot even though their wrists are freaking hardlight swords. Watchers float around aimlessly. Crawlers now do nothing but rush you and soldiers teleport when it provides no strategic advantage. I can’t be the only one who has this happen to them.
I feel like the addition of the Promethean “soldiers” was a good idea. Generally speaking, they were more satisfying to kill than any of the Promethean enemies in H4. I also feel Promethean weapons were much improved in H5. I did not notice a significant change in enemy AI, however I did notice the terrible friendly AI.
Read reddit. Mentions that Halo 5’s aren’t smart because they do NOT figure out how to kill you. In Halo 4, the Prometheans were made smart from scratch and would kill you from all directions using the best of their abilities. In Halo 5, we’re introduced to the new, unexplained soldier who doesn’t kill you because he was difficult to fight, no, “they” killed you because you were outnumbered, and they all just stood there not caring about you until you showed up beside them. Simply put, Halo 4’s Prometheans were awesome.
The flood was by far my favorite enemy, they were more threatening and the combat forms could bring them back to life (I know the watchers can do that, but they are a more viable attack unit than combat forms, but not really a threat, and are more annoying than anything.) The flood was a galactic threat, the prometheans haven’t been shown to be a major threat to the galaxy. They aren’t scary. The flood were way better fighters and the flood specific levels were typically really difficult (except for floodgate). The prometheans weren’t even a hostile threat to the galaxy until Cortana came along, the Didact only sought revenge against humanity and allowed the storm covenant to work with him. The flood wanted to destroy everything, and actually stood a chance of accomplishing that goal.
The prometheans don’t even fill a niche. The covenant was the typical antagonist to the story, the flood were an even greater and scarier threat lurking below. The prometheans are another faction who serve as the typical antagonist to the story. They are pointless. (Also warden eternal has one of the worst boss fights I’ve ever played.)

I agree that the promethean weapons were vastly improved in H5, with the exception of the binary rifle which I preferred in H4

lol I pretty much said exactly what fupdup posted XD
The AI is quite dumb. Though that might be a result of the new engine. H4 used Reach’s engine, H5 was made from scratch. Without being able to use Bungie’s proprietary software, 343i just can’t pull off AI.

I knew something was up thanks for that info. This is very important but people seem to ignore it. Something went really wrong in halo 5. 343 tried and I like some aspects of what they implemented but they have indeed kind of ruined halo5. They thought they could take the reigns but they simply weren’t ready. They should have kept bungie in the loop. I didn’t even know bungie had anything to do with 4 but knowing that now 343 has failed us all and it deeply saddens me. Not much we can do BC its already done.
