Hey guys, some of you may know me, and some of you may not, but I’m Proto from the MLG and Halo Council forums. I wanted to make this thread to get feedback and comments on an idea to continue Halos growth, both in the competitive and non competitive scenes. It has to do with showing anyone who plays the game that not only is there more to Halo such as competitive leagues, but give them everything they need to see as soon as they play.
What I mean by this is - anyone who plays the game should be aware of what goes on outside of just hopping on and playing. We have seen Halo expand past a game - and now we have competitive settings and communities thriving. We now see players making their living off Halo. I understand that many people do not like MLG and its players, but I’m not making this thread to be biased towards MLG. This goes for all tournaments, events, news, etc that is Halo.
So my idea, again for Halo 4, and look at the way Starcraft 2 and League of Legends promote big tournaments, patches in the game, leagues, events, etc.
Here is an example:
This picture of the SC2 main menu has a “News and Community” section you can cycle through and read all the news on events such as MLG, IPL, Dreamhack, and so on. If you log onto SC2 right now (if you play) you can read a variety of news about patches to the game, tournaments happening, etc. League of Legends does the same thing also - and even more now with the LoL spectator mode - you can watch matches live and Riot also promotes LoL streams and tournaments
So whether it be an MLG tournament, a BTB competitive tournament, or small FFA tournament being streamed, or just news in the Halo world about “Halo 4 DLC on sale at Gamestop…”, just anything Halo related that deserves coverage, put it right on the front page of the game - the main menu just like SC2 and LoL. I do understand 100% that these things are currently done right on the website and the waypoint game for 360, but think about it this way: If you are inviting new people into the game, are they inclined to just pop their disc in and play the game first or not?
We all do it ourselves - we reserve our copies of the next Halo game, buy it the release day, and rush home to play. Especially for new or casual players, they just pop the game in and play. Now, as eSports and tournaments are becoming huge as are news and updates on Halo, lets spread the word to everyone who plays the game as soon as they load up the game.
My main point in this is - lets promote all aspects of Halo and any Halo events that deserve coverage, spread the word as soon as people load up the game. Whether is a tournament, league, title update for the game, news on a sale at gamestop, anything Halo related worthy of coverage people should be able to see as soon as they are on the main screen. Thoughts, comments, concerns, all welcomed. Discuss
