Have to agree with OP that their promises mean nothing when they have been treating fans like this and DID NOT listen or learn a damn thing from Halo 5. I love this series, but I dislike 343 for what they’ve done and how they are incapable of giving us fans what we want entirely. No excuses when Mod Teams cough ElDewrito care more about this series than people like Frank O Connor.
When I say “Time isn’t really the problem at 343” I’m saying that it doesn’t matter how many years they had to work on the game, since their project management and organization is so legendarily bad and with such a large studio, it takes them forever to do even the simplest tasks despite the sheer manpower available.
And let it be known, Bungie’s project management wasn’t good either, when they made Halo CE and Halo 2, but they had directors with strong vision for the game, which helped all that work come together in the end.
Don’t forget Halo 2’s Legendary record development time and it still turned out AMAZING. Spot on about Bungie, but they communicated VERY WELL with their community AT THE TIME.
I disagree. They learned to return to the look and feel of Halo Reach. They learned how to make a balanced weapon sandbox (mostly) that feels like Halo. They learned not to make thrusters a permanent gameplay feature. They learned the best way to implement sprinting. And they learned not to chase all the trends in modern gaming EXCEPT for the FTP and battle pass and store and all the stuff we’re complaining about here.
So they learn that but did not learn how to release a finished game? No Desync? Good MM lobby and functioning servers? So they learn some good gameplay balances but nothing on the technical end? Development end? Maybe you’re right… they learned a few things, I’ll give you that. But they clearly haven’t learned how to Respect their fans or Communicate effectively. Maybe Frank O Connor should hit up some Bungie colleges? eh?
It’s because everyone has a different opinion that there is a community, and it’s obviously 343’s job to let them hear different voices and see how the community decides to weigh change.
People can argue in the community, but whether the final opinion is adopted depends not on who wins the argument, nor on the number of likes, but on the leadership of 343.
For now, I see only unnecessary procrastination and evasion of issues that do not satisfy everyone, Only the long overdue BTB fix was fixed and there were a lot of issues they didn’t have.
The community has a difference in many issues, but everyone will agree that this game need to fix.
It is incompletely not completely than the stage of debate, 343 need to fix the game first.
It’s 343’s job to expand the Halo Franchise and make video games. The “Halo Community” is not a monolith entity, we do not have many unified ideas at all, and more often than not the incessant bickering over opinions goes nowhere. No matter what, some group will be displeased or outraged.
And this over-inflated view that we have any sort of great hand in changes implemented is… something. There is something to be said for Halo Infinite attempting to recall several “Classic” elements in a new art direction, and they certainly do listen to feedback. But we do not sign their paychecks. 343i does not see profit off our purchases. Making demands as though we’re on the Creative Board is excessively entitled - and no, a $60 purchase of a game does not grant you “a voice in development” like it’s a stock share.
And they are. As was said before people need to learn some damn patience, and awareness that work cannot be done when needy, entitled fans are constantly demanding progress reports like a micromanaging shift manager.
Yeah, of all the people I follow, his and ubernick’s are the ones I’ll sometimes skip.
Ascend because of what you say and the slowest voice I’ve ever heard (newpipe x3 speed for him), and nick because everything 343 always do is always fantastic according to him. He’s a nice guy but needs a backbone and the ability to see through BS.
You’re calling me wrong, then agreeing with me, then calling me wrong again. It’s like you’re literally arguing just to argue.
I think he meant Battle Pass lol
This is why I said it takes not just not buying stuff, but speaking up as much as possible.
I think he was just trying to say that it’s not too late or too difficult to not spend money and if we want to see any changes, that’s what we’ll have to do, but in a much more succinct and eye opening way
After that analysis, there’s no way for me to prove to you that NO MONEY=CHANGES. You are ignoring basic economic principle and despairing over nothing. No one is saying your $60 dollar purchase will make things change. We’re saying that hopefully dozens… then perhaps hundreds… then thousands… then a few hundred thousand fewer purchases weekly, with no drop in the player base will make them scratch their heads. They’ll chase that peak profitability. Because that’s the whole point of making money, according to them.
The problem comes in who do they listen to? When it comes to more than technical issues (and even then, balance issues) which sub-section of a vastly fragmented fanbase gets the floor?
Of course no money would force Microsoft’s hand to implement changes. The problem comes in trying to unify people to a “no purchase” cause, and even then ensuring that it’s a worthwhile cause to rally behind. With the way the Halo Community is, best of luck with that.
I have a different takeaway from that title. “Actions speak louder than words.” What 343i actually changes and adds to the game is what matters. Look for what that is. The game is missing several huge features that I want so I’m squarely staying on the sidelines instead of squeezing blood from a stone.
Not only are you being pessimistic, you’re only bringing up problems that I’ve already addressed in the OP. No one is saying it will work, I’m saying we can only try. We have no direct power to change anything. That’s why we speak up. And we don’t buy stuff until we see what we like. No we won’t get to choose a perfect world. Literally no need to keep repeating that, that is not an actual expectation that anyone has. And again, like I said in the OP, it probably won’t work, but I’m going to do it anyways. If you have nothing of value to add to the conversation, why are you here? Just to try and convince people to give up? Your life that boring?
So you’re okay with a futile effort to encourage people to stop spending (whales/kids never stop), but you’re vocally opposed to people dropping the game until 343 makes the needed changes, even though we have the most power over a F2P by deciding when we will or won’t play.
And my point is that you keep saying “We”, but that only speaks to you and those who think like you. As I told Mattcahq, the Halo Community is not a monolith, despite you all treating it as such. I don’t care what you do with your time or money, nor do I care to “convince you to give up”, but “what the fans want” is not so clear cut that you can so easily issue a list of demands and expect them to be met.
I’ve already addressed this, but here we go again. It’s not futile. Every rain drop raises the sea, no matter how little. Even if this literally helped no one make a decision in the favor of this argument, every day I don’t make a purchase is a step down the correct path. Secondly, you’re argument is just wrong. Raising numbers of players and lowering sales are the two powers we hold over them. If you stop playing, they don’t care. They can’t put the Halo store in front of your face anymore. Onto the people they can do that to. If those people don’t buy stuff, then they definitely know there’s something wrong. It’s as simple as that. True, individually we don’t matter. That’s why we do it anyways. That’s why we do anything. Inherently, nothing matters and we only do things because we can. And we desire it. Its true we won’t see results unless a significant portion of the population all decides to do this. But if I believe this is the better option, why would I choose to spend money on something that I don’t believe is a valid price? Like is it seriously that hard to not spend your money? You have no self control whatsoever? If you load up Halo you’re gonna automatically spend?
