Ok…so maybe im a bit slow. I have read all the halo books and played all the games but i am confused about what exactly the promethians are. Is it another name for the forunners? Are they robots or some kind of specimen that the forunners have created. Im confused 
Original prometheans were the highest form of servant-warrior class of Forerunners.
The promethean Knights in Halo 4 are not directly related to them. But there is a connection that is only speculated at.
It’s an
“All Prometheans are Forerunners, but not all Forerunners are Prometheans” kind of thing. 
they are a warrior cast. I am not sure WHAT they are exactly, but according to the vidoc they are literally walking sarcophagi so maybe dead forerunners encased in armor?
Promethians are is the highest a Forerunner can achieve in the Warrior-Servant caste. The didact, a Forerunner, is a Promethian.
However, the Promethians in Halo 4 are Sentinel AI charged with defending Requiem from unknowns finding some weapon on Requiem
EDIT: The H4 promethians could be actual Forerunners converted to AI by the Composer

Yeah, all Forerunners are organic, including Prometheans. They just have crazy bodysuits, like how in Cryptum Bornstellar described how they didn’t need sleep, could survive extended periods without food, etc…

there is a DEAD BODY inside the knight…they are therefore necro organic and cybernetic…

They are AI, Warriors (at least I’m pretty sure.) like putting their faces on things. explains the figure a bit.
It might be some sort of Biological synthetic that is used to make the Huragok as well.

Err…you agreed with me then confused me all over again lol
In the books forunners do have crazy body suits and such but their bodies are not disconnected and machine like…like the promethians that are being shown in the game. I think they need to explain this a bit better.

sounds like everyone has a slightly different take on what they are but most people are agreeing to some extent to what i thought which was that promethians in H4 are not real forunners they are AI or something like that

But that would mean the Didact is simply a corpse? He’s a Promethean too…

People are saying that they are nero-organic. The small body you see is a Forerunner Promethean that survived but has to be put in the robotic body so his body doesn’t decapitate. But that’s just all speculation.

The forerunner society is divided into four “castes”, four rates. Builders, miners, life workers, warrior servants, and engineers.
Warrior servants’s highest group is the Promethean. They are the elite warrior servants.
The leader of the Prometheans is the Didact. During the flood-forerunner war, there were a lot of Promethean casualties.
It is likely that the dead Prometheans got digitalized by something called the composer and brought back from the dead into walking sarcofagoud that we fight in halo 4, the knights who might be protecting the Didact in his flying cryptum of doom. The Didact, in deep mediation and sleep, 100,000 years of meditation.

I was just thinking that all the Prometheans couldn’t just be suits, as Forerunners like the Didact held positions in Council and was in no way, uhh, dead.
But, as erickyboo said, they could have been … What he said.
