I know that 343i is trying to make a formidable enemy, but they lack the same fun that occurs when you fight the Covenant. Since 343i tried to make a smart, powerful enemy by removing any weakness, and giving them teleporting and resurrection abilities to help fight the player. But to a lack of weakness’s, there is a lack of FLOW in the combat, and thus the only way to fight them is to spam the Suppressor for minutes on end, only to teleport away or respawn. I don’t know about any other players, but I hate spamming weapons on people. I get enough of that in Borderlands 2. I hope I can get 343 to see this, and I truly hope for the best in Halo 5, and I hope for a significant redesign in their combat system.
Actually I’ve found that they’re only annoying while playing solo.
Playing co-op with another friend is much more fun and reenforces teamwork to bring down Promethean Knights and Watchers.
Of course this thread has nothing but opinions thus far so just because you found it not enjoyable doesn’t mean other people also find it not enjoyable. Same goes for when I say that I find it enjoyable.
I find them very fun to fight, soooo… you’re wrong?
Truth be told, I DO enjoy the game more with a friend, but solo is unbearable.
They do get rather annoying, with only three enemy types, one of which that hardly even fights and runs away when you shoot it, and another that swarms you and hardly follows any patterns.
If Watchers couldn’t ressurect Knights, I might not get so angry while playing Legendary when suddenly the last Knight releases a Watcher and I have to kill at least one of the Knights over again.
I found them to be rather interesting to fight, tough but not invincible. Teleporting and reviving just adds to the intensity. Having a Knight that you killed come back to life in front of your eyes really gives you that “Oh sh-!” moment, especially on Legendary. Spamming the Suppressor definitely won’t work, not from what I’ve seen. Then again, I’ve only played through on Heroic and Legendary, which difficulty you all playing on?
If you’re having problems with watchers ressurecting and knights getting away, you are simply playing a to high difficulty. I’ve done 6 missions so far (haven’t bothered with the last two yet), and I’ve not let a single knight get ressurected throughout the entire campaign. Was not an issue. You’re just not playing right.
For me, everything is fine except for the Knights. They have way too many abilities in my opinion. I hate it when you’re shooting them, you bring their shields down and then they just teleport away. Then by the time you’ve found them again, their shields have recharged, which means you’re going to have to burn through more ammo to bring them down again (and to your annoyance, they could end up potentially doing the same thing).
To make matters worse, you seem to run out of ammo way faster than any of the previous Halos.
I like the Prometheans. Yes they are very challenging, but that’s nothing to complain about. I find them very refreshing from battling the covenant for the past decade. Yes, taking them on alone is a pain, but that just increases our skill in the end. I can’t wait to see what they add/change for the next game (:
I think the new enemies are really cool. They’re hard, which to some people might be annoying, but I like the challenge, especially when working with friends. Anyway the watchers can be taken down outside of the range of knights, and the knights then aren’t any harder then hunters.
The weight of their movement seems off, plus they have no character. With the Covenant you got a sense of who they were and what they were fighting for, how the differing classes reacted to each other, there was a back story that didn’t have to be said too often. The Promethean are really big rushing bullet sponges with pretty lights that pull magic stunts.
They really needed some better classes to go with them because what they have are really just annoying repaints of the bipedal Flood Forms and the Buggers/Sentinels.
I played through Solo Legendary. Ideally I would kill the dog things at long range with headshots (usually light rifle), next I would take out the watchers (again usually with light rifle). I wouldn’t even engage the knights until they are alone.
Watchers can be a pain to take out with light rifle on legendary because it takes 4-5 shots, and they tend to run for cover when you attack them. If you have a sniper weapon, use it on the watchers immediately. Makes life easier.
I was disappointed after Frankie said that this would be the most difficult campaign on Legndary. Halo 2 still holds the throne as the most difficult, 8 years later and I still haven’t been able to complete it on Legendary.
Boring to Kill?
Maybe you are who is Boring to kill for them. To me they’re a nice to deal with.
After 4 campaign runs I can tell you that once you get used to them they are very satisfying to take down
Especially when sniping them across the map with a zoomed Gauss Rifle which inevitably also kills the watcher hovering above then…yes it can be done
Incineration Cannon, need I say more? God it’s a pain in the -Yoink- even in coop, that damn weapon an it’s area of effect. I’ve played the game once through and it was coop on legendary. Getting one shotted sucks and it’s even worse when you blow them up with said cannon and they get revived. That reminds me today on Midnight I was trying for that hammer achievement, I killed 3 of those forerunner dogs and it didn’t show up. So many of the achievements in this game are plain cruel. Maybe tomorrow I’ll change the time zone on my xbox so I can get Midnight Launch without waiting for midnight because I can’t play at night. The dogs go down easily enough, sniper dogs are irritating. Watchers are annoying and knights; it’s just not fun because if they get up close to you you can’t melee them back. It just takes one melee from them to kill you and since many of them carry a scattershot or human shotgun equivilant cqc is not a viable solution. Their assassination graphic is lame too, although I did assassinate one of the dogs today, it looked awesome!

I agree! Halo 2 Legendary was ridiculous. I still have nightmares about the damn Jackals with beam rifles that would never miss an instant one shot kill!
there was a few parts were after killing one you would walk a few feet then the loading of new enemies would appear, one of them would be a watcher and guess what he does? Goes right to the corpse of the knight you just killed and tries to revive him. If you dont catch it in time you have a fight on your hands again, wasting more ammo and time on something you already did.
Fighting them is actually pretty good, sometimes you get overwhelmed, but its the cheap loading mechanics and dodgy troop placements that make it non fun. Wish there was more drop ships dropping off their troops and vehicles. As for the knights and crawlers, they need to design a better system for loading them instead of instant appearing.
I find the knights to be ridiculously easy actually. And theats from playing on solo legendary. As soon as they teleport I just hit em with a few more headshots and they’re dead. Or i just put up a sentry to distract them and run over and boom 2 wuick shots with the scattershot and they’re done. After I figured out the watchers can resurrect them I just killed all the watchers first and have never had one resurrected since. If you’re having a problem you need to lower your difficulty until you get better at the game.
