Promethean Vision Looks Overpowered

After watching all of the MLG gameplay, I can say that besides griping to myself as to the fact that the MLG players wouldn’t try any of the new weapons other than the BR, I found myself seeing the Promethean Vision as a bit overpowered.

Let me say before I go further that this is post is purely for debate, I have no problem waiting for the games release and this is simply for the fun of hearing peoples ideas. I love Halo 4. It looks epic. Promethean Vision, however, looked a bit too good.

Situation awareness is critical in Halo games, so after seeing EVERY MLG player use Promethean Vision I was a bit worried as to why they weren’t using the other armor abilities, and cringed as they commented about how they “didn’t know why [they] would use anything else” (not exact quote). My friend and I both watched the footage and didn’t understand why something so powerful would be, well, powerful. Not only did it allow you to see people very far away and through walls, it also showed you their real-time actions to the minutia. I figured that this ability would only be able to used very sparingly, however I also saw that the ability recharged VERY fast. Fast enough that you could use it to full effect almost constantly.

From my watching of the footage I came to this conclusion: Promethean Vision should only show a snapshot of what every player is doing at the moment they are scanned. This will allow those who know they are being scanned to act accordingly as possibly change position, otherwise it should take way longer to recharge.

In all I understand that what I saw wasn’t the final version of the game, however I was just hoping to see some variety in the gameplay from the pros. It was, I guess, a disappointing moment to see the “best” Halo players saying that there was an ultimate armor ability and feel like if they had made another choice they would have been at a disadvantage.

Discuss?

Well when I watched the gameplay I thought it was used to much, mainly because usually the radar was showing the enemies that were close enough to matter anyway. Didn’t really like how the mlg players stuck to the BR and PV and didn’t try anything else. Though that one guy in the second dev commentary who tried some different stuff out for the cameras was cool.

And also

> Remember that the Pros had one single practice session that morning, then had to go to the event that evening and basically play and record. You’re looking at their second or third games EVER, in some cases. Using PV with the kind of situational awareness those guys, and honestly, even half–Yoinked!- players like me have, is a waste of another potential ability, IMO. However, it follows the pattern we see in testing, which is that initially, it’s the easiest to “master” since it’s incredibly obvious how it works. If they follow the pattern the way it’s expressed in testing, they will VERY quickly move on to use different abilities.

> As you rightly point out, almost all of the information PV is giving them is replicated in their motion tracker and for obvious reasons, Hologram “fools” PV.

I think it’ll be fine, also if you look closely we have “Armor perks” The one with PV was AA recharge speed(I think). This would explain the fast cast/recharge time.

I know they’ll be testing the abilities all out more. I’m sure PV will have a few tweaks by Game Launch.

I’ll admit it’s a nice ability but will most likely use it less than I used Armor Lockup(Which was like once or twice in Matchmaking).

IMO radar pretty much does PVs job. Good players will move to other AAs once they notice that.

I completely agree that it’s over powered.

I always thought PV would have a limited range, perhaps the same range as the movement-radar that players have.

It should have been cut out the game a long time ago. A good player wont need it because seeing through walls and being able to detect enemy locations at all times is useless. Come on its so dumb to put in multiplayer and I dont want to use hologram all the time so I dont get ran up on every two seconds.

Secondly, whats up with the Energy Sword now? The lunge is almost non-existent and turns the user into a death sponge. Also the reticule is just horrendous, looks exactly like a shotty reticule except now with a hyphen added to it. Those are my only gripes

That’s a good idea.

PV could show pulses of frozen pictures, like a submarine’s sonar, showing stilled pictures instead of consistent motion.

The Promethean vision can’t be changed because of the Campaign Sequence. It wouldn’t work right if you didn’t use it there. (The part where the crawlers and Knights/Lancers appear)

Yeah, that just seemed more fair. The biggest thing I didn’t like was the fact that you could see exactly where they were looking, and even if the player being “scanned” knew they were being watched, any movement to try and get out of the situation could be watched real-time.

I was thinking they could give some kind of BS reason like, “the Promethean Vision could fully integrate with the Spartan V armor, causing a reduction in features” or something.

Well with the ability to see through walls comes the ability to completely negate any forms of ambushes. I’m not talking camping either, more of stuff like two player ‘luring’ where you pull the target through a door and have a buddy hit him from behind. All you have to do know is quick scan with the Vision and you can be totally sure there’s no-one around. Kinda takes away some tactics IMO.

It’s not that overpowered…

> It’s not that overpowered…

But It’s still overpowered.

It seems like Halo 4’s “armor lock”. They made it sound like a sonar but it is literally X-ray vision.

They received that feedback’ now 343 just needs to tone it down. They need to nerf its recharge rate and its maximum amount of time usage.

LOL, that gameplay was just awful wasn’t it? PROMETHEAN VISION+BR. Everything else just isn’t pro enough! MLG! BALANCE!

LMFAO

I don’t think you should be able to shoot with it, and I doubt it will be used for any competitive settings.

pv in my opinion is -Yoink- its halo they should just stick to the same arena game with spawning weapons and no seeing people through walls or ordinance like speed and power weapons and -Yoink- its proberly going to be good but they could keep it so much more basic and make it so much better then editing the -Yoink!- outv of the game and adding and changing loads of point less perks that give people massive advantages

My impression of the videos was that the loadouts and weapons available on the maps were limited. 343 was interested in seeing how certain types of matches would play out and the maps shown do not necessarily reflect the full arsenal of weapons that will be on them at launch. Also, the specialization in effect was rapid use of AA allowing for MORE use of PV than would be normal. This was probably done specifically so that people could see only one of the new AA in action A LOT. It was really a “demonstration” and not real-life game-play as how we’ll see it in the game.

All things considered, once the guy who’s coming after me because he saw me across the map hits my motion tracker, I’m just as aware of his position as he is of mine. Only difference is that from here I can use my Thrust to surprise him, or my Hologram to outsmart him.

PV doesn’t give you a combat advantage, it just helps you know where to find a fight. And only really benefits people who can’t read a motion tracker (like MLG pros, who play MLG, which DOESNT use Motion Trackers.)

To be honest. You can’t change the course of a fight by activating PV. All you can do, is ignore your motion tracker. But I CAN win a fight because of a well timed thrust, or a cleverly placed hologram. Once he’s on my tracker, the ball goes into MY park. And I win because of it.

PV is useless to situationally aware players.
