promethean vision is overpowered

Franky said that promethean vision is something that a skilled player most likely would not use or need. Couldn’t be more wrong. Its every MLG player’s go to ability. There are no draw backs it recharges super fast you can kill while using it just as easily. The pro player’s are in promethean vision like 80% of the game. It takes away the whole point of having radar and the element of surprise. I cant wait until they announce another stupid gimmick the you can use to block it from seeing you and use up one of your load out slots to counteract a armor ability.

Agreed, then again I can’t think of any game that has managed to balance wallhack or invisibility as “abilities”, they’re if anything cheats in almost every game for a good reason :stuck_out_tongue:
Promethean vision is way, way to effective. you can shoot/move freely when you use it, you see enemies through floors/walls, anything. You can even spot people at great distances. Sure, the drain is “somewhat fast” but so is regen, and if you use it good you’ll need no more then 2 seconds to get a good idea of where to go.
The new camper delight, makes it impossible to ever sneak up on a camper, promo vision + shotty/scatter gun/remote explosive = free kills.

the AA emits a sound so that you can sense them coming. however… that is the stupidest idea ever. if the whole enemy team uses the vision AA not only will they know where you are, you are gonna be blasted with the irritating noises, unable to clearly identify the position.

90% of all Matchmaking will use that perk, because hey you can see enemy players through walls. that’s broken and cheap, which leads to random and unfair gameplay just like Blacklight Retribution

couldn’t agree more

please players of Halo 4 and the fans that are waiting for it: enlighten me. please give me one good reason why this AA is balanced!!!

no matter. this whole game will be a Crysis/CoD mash-fest with randomness and cheap tactics.

Just Think Promethean vision + the armor ability efficiency perk (witch is in Halo 4) AA’s last longer and recharge faster.

Not once did I see anyone camping in the MLG videos. Perhaps MLG players are too good to camp. Either way, I’m happy with the ability…so far.

There should be an absolutely negative side to this. Notice I said “should”, not “is”. A loud noise might as well be non existent if you cannot do anything to counteract the PVer. My bet is first week they call in Sage, or the entirety of Halo 4’s multiplayer jumps ship…

It speeds up Gameplay I give you that…But not in the Right Way…I don’t think seeing through walls is the right way to speed up gameplay…

double post!

IMO 343i should just remove it all together

Imo they need to make it a map pick up or nerf it by limiting it to 1 use a life, reducing its range and adding a feature that allows players to know they’ve been spotted by it.

its awful Id rather have AL than this.it needs to be nerfed big time

I knew someone would make this thread eventually.

I think it seems overpowered the way they use it, but we don’t know much right now. For all we know, 343 could’ve watched them play and noticed that it seemed overpowered. They could be fixing it right now for all we know. We don’t really know how long it’ll last once the game is released. Right now, though, it’s definitely overpowered.

There is really no other useful option for them. Think about it. They dont want to use jetpack, they dont want to thrust several feet, they dont want to have a hologram of themselves and they dont want a hardlight shield that makes them put their BR away.

Sprint is a default ability so Promethean Vision is the only appealing AA while playing in the competitive mindset.

Armor Lock’s successor?

Woah woah woah,
lets not get to hasty over here, I would rather face something that I can still kill compared to something I can’t, especially with the game being much faster.

Anyways, the only way I can see to balance it, would basically be to have some harsh penalties for either:

A) moving while using it

B) getting shot while using it

If is blurred significantly while moving(sort of like Sonar Goggles is anyone has played SC:Conviction) then it will be used less often, at least when in the middle of battles and if it is, the player will be at a significant disadvantage.
Same with getting shot, as I noticed many of the players left it on during the middle of a fight, and this could act the same way as when shot while using it if impaired your vision significantly.

Meh, these are just some suggestions to make it more tolerable, but then again I haven’t actually played the game yet xD

On a side note, I was a bit dissapointed how all the players used it all the time. I was looking forward to seeing some good plays with that new thruster pack. :frowning:

People freaking out over the E3 Stage Demo…
I’m sure there will be tweaks to how it works. I’m sure 343 was watching how it was being abused and will adjust it.

I will not use the ability, just like how I never used Armor Lockup. I’m also sure there will be playlists it’s limited to and if not I honestly don’t mind it for what it is.

Let’s just calm down and hope it’s tweaked by the final product. If not then it’s fine the way it is and just remember, you don’t have to use it.

Basically this ^

I was skeptical about PV since I heard about it being in the game. I just finished watching the MLG videos and I had to come on here and atleast share my thoughts. I think this AA should be taken out of the game completely. Not nerfed, not changed, but REMOVED!

It looks like it disrupts the flow of the game to the point where I could see this getting old very fast. It may turn the game into a new type of camping. A type of camping I like to call “walling”. If you have never heard of this it is basically a person playing an fps with wall hacks. They can see around every corner to basically know where everyone is. Halo 4 will be nothing but this if this AA stays in its current state. That sounds very annoying to anyone not using this AA.

This is all my opinion and if it were up to me I would change PV to an AA that has a little more skill-cap to it.

Maybe something like an enhanced UI that allows you to mark targets for your team to see, something like in Gears. If would have to be a little more than just and arrow though and should last a decent while, but again should be an AA that has to be chosen to use and must have the play do something more than just press the button.

Am I the only one who noticed that in one of the Promethean Vision usage (I believe it was from Elamite(?) on Adrift) that it didn’t register the enemies location in his first usage?
I don’t remember correctly but I did notice it; gonna have to double check. Does this mean that Promethean Vision has a limited range of effectiveness?

EDIT: Here it is around 0.17-0.25
