Promethean Vision is a ridiculously bad idea

I really wish 343 would just release a matchmaking update announcement one week that said “We now realize that allowing players to see through walls was an insanely stupid idea to have in a Halo game. Promethean Vision is no longer allowed in matchmaking.” What were/are they thinking?

> What were/are they thinking?

This.

And now I once again feel the rage and betrayal that I felt when they first showed that slide. Ugh. I’m buying Halo 5 used.

> And now I once again feel the rage and betrayal that I felt when they first showed that slide. Ugh. I’m buying Halo 5 used.

Or you could wait until a month after release, monitoring gameplay videos and population, then make that choice.

Or just not buy it at all. That’s probably what I’m doing.

Anyways, I saw that PV was going to be bad before Halo 4 even release. So I’m not surprised by the reaction.

Actually I play on waiting for details and then not buying it if they don’t reverse all of their CoD multiplayer nonsense. If they go even further in that direction I’ll just buy it used as a middle finger to them for ruining what I love. I do still love the campaign.

I pretty much thought that with all of their announcements. By the time they announced PV I was pretty much like “Screw it. Why not? They already have a new 1hk sniper rifle and perks. I hate everything.”

Don’t know if it was already brought up but adding a radar while zoomed in is another terrible idea. How to make a camping sniper more invincible–give him a radar that’s what.

However Promethean vision I don’t have a huge problem with it. Though you may see an enemy coming from around a corner he/she can still have a chance of beating you in a shootout. However Promethean vision suits best in close-quarters for a surprise attack, but still people rarely use it. I actually been only killed by a few people who actually used it (via KILL-CAM)

My preference: the jet pack----even though it is powered down slightly since Halo Reach

You’ve only been killed by a few people using it? I don’t know how that’s even possible. Virtually every team slayer game I play has at least 2 people on the opposing team using it. And it lasts so long they can borderline keep it on. It really ruins the combat flow for me. Nothing’s worse than getting sniped by someone on Adrift and then see in their killcam that they were just crouching with PV on, waiting on you to turn the corner.

I do agree with you that they seemed to be giving campers an entire arsenal of stuff to ruin games with. A person with that perk that gives you a motion tracker while zoomed in, active camo and a sniper rifle is virtual unstoppable if they’re not stupid.

I very rarely see players using PV, maybe once or twice a week, so I don’t have a problem with it. I occasionally use it myself. Either way, its not hard to counter. Its visible/audible in game when someone uses it (99% of the time Boltshot/shotgun users, so just hang back and throw a grenadearound the corner), is easily countered using Stealth (which I have on most of my classes for quicker assassinations) or making sure you have a powerful close range/automatic weapon (again, since 99% of people who use it have a Boltshot/shotgun anyway).

Invis at the touch of a button was a bad idea. Countering it with a wall hack was just downright stupid.

Being made aware that someone is using Promethean Vision isn’t a counter. A counter is something that “counters” its functionality. The Stealth armor mod that reduces your visibility to PV users is a counter (though not a very effective one). Knowing that someone near you is using PV in no way hurts their ability to see where everyone is on the map through walls.

Stealth makes it impossible for PV users to see you through walls. How is that not an effective counter? They can’t see your location on the map unless you are within motion tracker range and are moving at normal speed.

Because everyone shouldn’t have to equip a perk just so other players can’t see through walls. That’s fundamentally broken.

God, I find it hilarious that people are complaining about that “Radar while zoomed in” thing is funny… I’ve assassinated a LOT of people whom I confirmed had that perk. It isn’t as good as billed, because all you need to properly counter it is to be slow, cautious, and stealthy.

They should just scrap PV, active camo and armor mods. Less options = more gameplay options = less things to balance.

There are a ton of things in this game that should just be scrapped. The boltshot is broken, active camo ruins the game, promethean vision was and is a horrible and balance ruining idea, spawning with plasma grenades and plasma pistols…all of this stuff just ruins the game for me. You can’t take a game with a sandbox that has been refined over the course of a decade for arena play and then just add custom loadouts. Like cramming a square peg into a round hole, you’re gonna break some stuff.

> Because everyone shouldn’t have to equip a perk just so other players can’t see through walls. That’s fundamentally broken.

Right.

First of all, PV and AC are the only AAs that require you to use a particular perk or AA in order to counter it. None of the other AAs are that powerful. Therefore, PV and AC are imbalanced with the rest of the options.

Secondly, having to change my loadout items or abilities to effectively counter or retaliate to an enemy’s loadout items or abilities is the definition of a class-based game. Halo did not become successful with gameplay revolving around outstrategizing your opponent with a more appropriate class. Halo became successful with gameplay that revolved around outstrategizing your opponent with better aim, unpredictable movements, and map/pickup control.

> Because everyone shouldn’t have to equip a perk just so other players can’t see through walls. That’s fundamentally broken.

Like I said, PV for me is very rare to come across so I don’t have a problem with it. In fact, I approve of it to some extent as it helps to detect corner campers with 1SK/power weapons looking for a cheap kill. If you know they are there by activating your PV, corner campers are easily seen and dealt with accordingly with a couple of quick grenades. But again, I don’t use in my loadouts or come across it much in matchmaking.

no it was not a bad idea! I use it a lot and have realized it take a lot of skill to use correctly. you cant just spam it because I gives away your position when you do. the trick is to use it when no one is on your radar, so to better locate enemies while they don’t realized they are being scanned and also right at the moment immediately prior to an engagement; they don’t have time to realize “oh im being scanned ok” yet you have time to adjust your reticule right on them before the gunfight starts and can gain an advantage.

PV needs to be used at just the right moments otherwise it can actually work against you. spamming it to much also can prompt enemies to switch on the stealth mod and you want to lure them into not doing this.
