Promethean Return

Prometheus. The ancient legend of how a figure descended from the mountain of the gods, carrying stolen fire, as to give it to humankind and allow them to rise in power, intellect and happiness.

We have the Prometheans. What can they offer us?

Sorry, sorry, I don’t know why I made that dramatic. Anyway, the Prometheans.

First off, weapons. Given the limited size of Halo 5’s beta’s sandbox, I think it unlikely that we’ll see very many, if any at all, Promethean weapons there. However, I don’t think that they’re going to disappear outright, given the Didact’s still around. Although Requiem was destroyed, I find it unlikely that all the knights were too. Jul Mdama might have taken some aboard his ship, they may have escaped via their slipspace mechanisms, or one of the other composers (yes, there are more than one) might be used to create some. And with that, I don’t think that when we find them they’re going to be holding plasma pistols.

Thus, what are their weapons going to be like? Since the majority of Halo 5’s MP is going to be equal starts, (all of it being equal would be a bit silly for some gametypes/customs) there is now no reason for the Promethean weapons to be analogues to the human/covenant alternatives! And that brings up all sorts of possibilities… Some people suggested changing the functionality of the weapons slightly to be more unique, and buffing them all to power weapons.

But think about what that would do to the Promies in campaign? shudders A crawler would suddenly become a deadly foe! Every Knight wielding the equivalent of a Binary/Incin? I think some people might have heart attacks.

So, personally I think the best idea would be to drastically change the functionality of some of the weapons, buff some of the others, kick a few out, and introduce a few new ones.

Then comes the issue of their forms. I’ll go over them quickly.

Knight: Big, tanky, sometimes annoyingly skittish. Required a few unshielded headshots to kill. Very fast shield recharge. The one with the most personality, roaring a lot and with a disturbing origin story.

Watcher: The most unique and original. Very skittish, sometimes infuriating (but in a good way. Really, it’s your own fault for not taking them out first) A variety of special abilities.

Crawler: Faster, more aggressive grunts, who scream a bit and pop when headshotted.

How about a few new forms, then? Maybe something to complement the Knights, slightly smaller but more refined and less out-and-out vicious.

And then, there’s vehicles. Whilst they wouldn’t need any for transportation (teleporting), I can see them being used for heavy assault/defence, like a War Sphynx or Seeker.

Anyway, get to discussin’!

Since the Xbox One is far superior to the 360, I can only imagine how smart the Promethean’s will be.

I want to see them take a more dangerous approach with them.

Example: You are fighting a hoard of Covenant foes and suddenly, A knight teleports in. You must quickly adapt your tactics to put him down, As the Knight is far stronger than anything on the battlefield.

Leave him alive for too long, And he will summon Crawlers and Watchers. Also, The Promethean’s sandbox should be top of the line. Thus, Making them stronger.

That’s my thoughts about the Promethean’s.

Also, Make them fight the Flood.

I really hope they change how Prometheans work in Halo 5.
In Halo 4 they weren’t that good of an enemy in my opinion.
I thought they were badly designed.

Unlike the Elites they did not have any weak points and there were no certain combos that were better against just them. (Like Plasma Pistoling an Elite and then headshotting him.)

I felt the Prometheans were quite boring to fight since all you could do to beat them was to just spray at them as much as you could 'til they died. Sure, you could take down it’s weird semi shields and then shoot them in the head but that rarely happened since there never any Plasma Pistols around when you fought them.
Yhe guns I mostly used during Promethean fights mostly consisted of using the Boltshot(which barely deals any damage and was pretty much only good to beat crawlers with) and the Light Rifle which didn’t have too much ammo.

So to conclude, I thought the Prometheans were dull enemies in Halo 4 and I hope they remake and rethink them to make them less of a chore and actually make them fun to fight.
