Promethean Knight: Halo 5 vs Halo 4

In all of the Warzone gameplays I’ve seen, there’s none that give us a clear look at the Promethean Knight’s. But with the newer screen shots released as of Gamescom, we get to finally see the Knights up close:
Halo 5 Promethean Knights:
High Ranking Knight (Likely a Knight Strategos)
Standard Knight (Or possibly the Knight Marshal based on this gameplay)

Now, looking at the high ranking Knight… OMG HE LOOKS LIKE A GUNDAM HAD A BABY WITH AN ELITE
clenches fist
This game is gonna be so awesome

But back on topic. This new high ranking Knight not only looks awesome, and I mean really awesome, but he seems to have a very unique design compared to a standard Knight. The H4 Knights were all similar in design, as they were variations of each other. But this guy stands out significantly, although he obviously has the standard overall shape, size and look of a standard. Promethean Knight. But speaking of the Standard Knight, he definitely has gone through a redesign. In the picture I linked above, he is missing his back-piece, so its hard to properly judge him. I can only assume this has to do with the ability to destroy parts of the Knight in combat. Perhaps destroying the “backpack” is meant to be a way to prevent Knight’s from spawning any watchers? Maybe 343 did that because they want players to feel like there’s a reason to be aiming at somewhere else on an enemy other than their head. So just try to imagine him with a back piece for now.

Looking at the original Knights, the H5 Knight seems to have a very similar body, but the head has clearly been redesigned. It’s a little less… Pointy? It doesn’t protrude outward as much, and has more of a rounded look to it than the “arrowhead” style of the original Knight. It looks interesting, but part of me feels like the original Knight looks a little more fierce. And I grow more and more concerned as to whether or not the Knights will still have the Open-face thing that they always do. I really thought that was a cool thing about the Knights, the way you see the skull inside. For some reason I can’t picture this new knight opening up his face, but maybe its just the artisitc change throwing me off. And regarding the higher ranking Knight, he really doesn’t look like he’ll have an opening face. But perhaps that is an intentional aspect of his gameplay. Maybe he won’t have the headshot weakness that a standard Knight would because he won’t do the open-face-thing.

Thoughts? Opinions? Which version of the Knights do you like more? Regardless, I can’t wait to see the Knights in H5, as they were some of the only gameplay-related aspects of H4’s campaign that I really liked. Will there be some newer variants? Will any of the past variants get redesigned as well?

I’d like to hear your opinions on the Promethean Soldiers as well.
Pic
I almost feel like the Soldiers would make sense as the composed humans, with the composed forerunners being the Knights. But the Promethean Knights already have enough plot-hole related issues to deal with so I won’t think too much about it. I hope they get rid of the Soldier’s voice. If any of you have heard it in Warzone then you know its pretty weird. Overall the design is interesting. It seems like they’ll be some slightly more capable Skirmishers, but maybe not as fast.

Update: Here’s gameplay of the Knight Strategos: Looks like its meant to be more of a Tanky Knight. Where as the Knight that spawns in the tunnel sometimes (The Marshal I believe) Seemed to be a little more agile and had a more standard appearance for a Knight. And we get to see the mechanic of the back piece being destroyed. Not sure if it was because he kept hitting the back part, or if it triggers when the Knight is on low health. I can’t really figure out why its a feature. To stop them from spawning watchers? To make them smaller targets when they’re on their last legs so they’re harder to finish off? Do they get faster without it?

I liked halo 4 prometheand better. They all looked, felt, and acted like giant deadly metal insects and it was great. Now we have soldiers who talk with a couple synths to digiyize their voice and knights that lost the things i liked about them in halo 4. The new standard knight looks too small, closer to a soldier, and the high ranking one looks like it has a massive head to me. They made the legs too thick in my opinion, the spindly ones offselt the heavy design well.
This is just my opinion. I felt the insect imagery went well with promethans. It was different at least.

I like the new knights better, they seem strong, but do not look anything like the higher classed knights. There is more of a distinct difference, which is a good thing.

That standard knight looks like it dropped a ton of weight compared to 4’s.

I actually liked the Promies, I just didnt like how they teleported so frequently.

Yea, old prometheans were great. I’m not a fan of the newer solider prometheans, but at least they didn’t completely ditch away with the old design.

Is no one going to point out that the Warden Eternal is on that snow Warzone map (Stormbreak I think)? So does that mean all the bosses in Warzone are characters from the Campaign? If so, I’d like to see Jul as a Warzone boss.

Making Knight ranks more distinct is awesome in my book. That high ranking Knight really does look awesome. Also, with Soldiers being introduced, Knights can now take on the role they seem to have been designed for in the first place: a elite combat unit that is met on rarer occassions but is a serious threat when they do appear (i.e. somewhat like the Hunters). I am really curious to see how the Promethean AI behaves in Halo 5. 343i did acknowedge that they should have made some tweaks to how they behave in Halo 4 and the Warzone footage shown so far does show them to be seemingly more dynamic. Can’t wait to kill them!
As for the Warden: yeah it is clear that he (or similar Forerunner constructs) will be part of the Promethean sandbox. Would be cool if the appears in the campaign as sort of a mini boss.

Wow, they look awesome.

Won’t lie, the standard/basic promethean looks really odd, but the knight marshall thing looks absolutely sick, it’s so awesome!!

On the whole, I like what they’re doing with the Prometheans, making more unique classes and better signposting the strengths and play styles of each unit. I’m not so sure about the standard Knight lacking the back piece seen in Halo 4. It looks pretty odd.

I don’t care what they look like as long as they’re not bullet sponges anymore.

If I’ve remembered correctly, I think I saw some Warzone gameplay of the base Knights have their broad shoulder/back armor plates, but it looked to me that they got destroyed as the Knight took damage. Can’t remember where I saw the gameplay, so I could be wrong.

Well, in response to those saying the newer knight looks too small, keep in mind the overall image of the new knight won’t be realized until we see some pictures with the back piece attached. And judging by that higher ranking knight, I don’t think the knights have really gotten any smaller. From what I remember Chief was about up to the Promethean’s head, and the head isn’t the highest point on a Promethean Knight. So we’ll have to see how it looks with the back on. I doubt the normal ones would be much smaller than the Marshal, assuming that awesome one is in fact the Knight called a Marshal. I wish they would have shown us a better image of the standard one, though.

On the topic of the Promethean Soldier though. I think I’ll add a little extra part in the first post with pics of the soldiers, as I’d like some opinions regarding those guys as well.

Now I think the Knights are taking the place of a Hunter in Promethean race and the Promethean soldier take the place of a Elite.

Where did you find that out? Can you send a link pls?

Judging from the way the Promethean Soldiers teleport, you can actually see where they teleport to, which is an improvement to the gameplay.

I agree the Promethean (marshall?) looks awesome.
I cant wait to see these guys in battle.

As for the Promethean standard…he looks like hes missing something
I wont judge too much since its just one picture but I don’t like how it looks.
Too scrawny and weak looking.

I really like this Promethean race with all their new technology in Halo.
Love seeing all the new stuff they got.

OCT.27 COME TO ME NOW.

I quite like the soldiers, and their backstory. Their being more basic AI driven units is a good reason for them being more common, and means there’s no limit on their numbers. I’m also happy to see that the Prometheans have forces that are capable of communicating with the humans.

I updated the original post with the warden eternal pic

I have no issue with the fact that they can talk. The issue is that their voice is a little weird to me and the death scream is pretty bad.

As for the backstory, I like it, but its just that they feel more like a forerunner construct that would have been made from a composed human. The fact that the Knights look nothing like the beings composed to make their AIs bothers me a little bit, and the soldiers would have really struck home on the humans being composed if the story worked out with them being those humans. The Halo 4 concept art of the Knights showed that a humanoid “spirit” would float out of the knights and dissipate when they were killed, which would have been really cool. But its whatever. Like I said, the Knights have their own plot-related issues, but that’s a topic for another day.

The high ranking knight looks absolutely awesome! The standard knight is just strange looking though.

Knights have the tiny pair of arms. That’s pretty much the only way to tell though. The hunched over design makes them look more like an elite. I agree with you about the promethean soldiers.
