Project Tatanka needs to be Series S|X & PC exclusive

I also think they should make Tatanka a Series X/S exclusive. But they should pull a Flight Simulator and have a version of the game players can cloud stream through their very old XBO and still play. Make it against bots and other clouds streamers, and it would probably still be fun.

I’m for this. Especially once the game starts getting bigger. See Forza Horizon 1/2 and Forza Horizon 2 as an example of what should be done.

With cloud gaming this is an option, but that relies on good connections which not everyone can have

The Design Specs of the Xbox One lineup when it comes to RAM quality -

  • XBOX ONE VANILLA has 8 GB DDR3
  • XBOX ONE SLIM also has 8 GB DDR3
  • XBOX ONE X has 12GB GDDR5 RAM

Now let’s take a look at the design specs of the Series S/X lineup thus far -

  • XBOX SERIES S has 10 GB of RAM
  • XBOX SERIES X has 16GB GDDR6

Halo Infinite was designed for the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S/X hardware. Which has a range of 10GB of RAM to 16GB of RAM.
So already the majority of Xbox One players are using sub-par hardware as the Xbox One Vanilla and Xbox One Slim both have the same amount of RAM available.

I have played Halo Infinite on my Xbox One Vanilla.
I have played Halo Infinite on my friend’s Xbox One Slim.
I have played Halo Infinite on my uncle’s Xbox One X.
I have played Halo Infinite on my Xbox Series X.
I have also dabbled in a few matches on my PC which has the following specs -

  • Intel Core i7-11700KF
  • 16GB DDR4 SDRAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Take a guess which setups was the most teeth-grinding experiences I had to experience?

The Xbox One Vanilla and Xbox One Slim took nearly a minute to load to the main menu alone. The gameplay had my inputs seemingly being put in a few frames after I started pushing the joysticks. And the amount of rubber-banding I endured was astronomical!

My uncle’s Xbox One X loaded the game with much more ease, with only occassional internet issues.

Meanwhile my PC ran the game perfectly once I optimized my graphics card.

And as for the Series X?
Gameplay has never felt smoother.
Load times to menus take only two-to-five seconds!
And when it comes to desync and hit-reg?
I see it only happen when I am trying to target certain players. Not all players, but if I have difficulty shooting at one guy in a match and it is a consistent issue with how my shots don’t register to this one guy; I can guarantee it that he or she is playing on the Xbox One Vanilla, Xbox One Slim, or a PC with sub-par build or optimization.

Phasing out the Xbox Ones would DEFINITELY ensure that each match has a much more higher chance of running smoothly.

Yeah I’m just gonna ignore this since desync is purely a game connection issue not a ram issue.

This data isn’t useful since there is no control used and doesn’t follow the scientific method.

Edit: my friend with a series x doesnt agree with your points of it loading the menus that fast lol

True.
But then explain why my game connectivity is worse on the Xbox One compared to my Xbox Series X?

To add to this, I experience a distinct uptick in poor game performance every time I play with my PC buddy in my fireteam (I have a Series X).

I think a lot if Infinite’s desync issues have to do specifically with cross play, and I think XBO and PC’s both have similar poor performance on average. But that is also just going off my anecdotal experience…

You’re comparing system memory to network statistics, and then saying that poor connection on older devices is a valid reason to cancel the game on them. Network conditions are entirely subjective, unlike hardware. I can’t explain why your older consoles have slower connection (causing input delay and rubber-banding), but that is hardly reflective of all users. I play on a similar spec’d PC to yours and have experienced the issues you had on old consoles, they are not hardware issues.

What about players who have a Series X|S and a have bad internet connection? They will still have longer loading times and noticeable lag. But that’s a standard across all games on all platforms, maybe not to the extent of the desync that we see in Halo… But that extent of desync is a Halo problem not present in other cross-gen cross-platform games.

You could argue that the improved memory and fast SSD Storage in the new consoles will lead to faster loading times in matchmaking if you remove old consoles, but this is a cross platform title. PC players with low specs or gaming laptops are fairly common. They could be running this game off an External Hard Drive for all you know.

Then we start getting into the whole cross-platform debate where if you were to rule out Xbox One players, you should also be able to turn off matchmaking with PC for optimal gameplay… And then rule out M/KB players… And then rule out international players… You get the gist.

TL;DR, game dev is very hard. This entire thread is an oversimplification of the problem and has become an echo chamber for all sides of the argument. The problem and by extension, the solution, is never this simple. A lot of the community may not like it, but 343 are the best equipped people in the world to work on solutions for their game. Focus on the problems, complain about the most important things and let them work it out. And to clarify, I’m not saying the devs are without flaws, but rather there really isn’t anyone else who can reasonably analyse and resolve these problems.

Let’s start by moving to Unreal5. Slipspace is holding everything back.

I was mostly using RAM as an example, as most laymen that only play console know that Bigger RAM = Runs Better.

And given the fact that I am able to see a stark difference between my gameplay expereince on Xbox One compared to my PC and even my Xbox Series X; it implies that if RAM is doubled on the Series X when compared to Vanilla Xbox One; what other major differences in hardware are there in the black box that allows my gameplay on the more modern console to be better than my severely outdated console?

They need to phase the ones out entirely, I agree. It’s slowing down their optimization efforts tremendously and giving their bug squashers more to look at beyond reason.

Fair enough there. I think what’s bothering me is the issues you are describing I have experienced on my PC, I made the assumption in my post that it must be network issues as opposed to hardware since I’m running a 3070, 16GB DDR4, and an i7 9700k, similar specs to yours. Therefore it cannot be a hardware problem.

I’ve also noticed that these issues are not appearing in the known issues section on Halo Support. It would probably be a good idea to give it a report if you see it again and want to go through the effort. I might do the same.
Halo Infinite Multiplayer Current Issues:

series s isn’t even that big of a different to the one x. Also, if a standard xb1 can run rdr2 just as beautifully, there must be something else wrong hmm…

Are you sure you have them hooked up to the internet the same? Could also just be bad luck, let’s face it, you probably haven’t really played that many games on the Xbox One in comparison.

I remember I saw a thread and someone said the problem had something to do with user profiles having too much data on them and that being the reason, so as long as one person had a profile that was full of data it would affect connectivity.
Cannot tell you how much of that is true or not true, but he claimed to know someone at 343i.

I decided to actually test it out.
Both of my Xboxes are wired to my modem and I receive 500mbps nanofiber.
I decided to do twenty matches on both consoles.

The results showed in favor of my Series X.

My take on this is:

We don’t know what this project is (while we might guess what it is), what it will end being (if it ends being anything at all) and what the state of gameplay between platforms will be when it gets released. So making these requests seems pointless specially when you might be splitting part of the community (no matter how small or insignificant you think that portion is).

Exclusivity is a curse.
Just my 2 cents.

EDIT & PS: Xbox One players payed as much as everyone else so they’re entitled to as much as everyone else (or at least entitled to have 343 attempt to deliver it to them as well).

Could be a number of things, considering that even placement of a console can affect connection.

  • Are they in the same room?
  • Both connected to same router?
  • Are they both wired or connected with the same optimized settings?

The list could probably keep going.
I just know I know people who have completely stopped playing the game to Desync, and they were affected in Series exclusive custom matches that were hosted as well. Cutting off an entire console doesn’t seem to be the issue, many other games have bridged this gap near flawlessly, take MCC for example, I don’t complain about it there, neither for Destiny 2, which I don’t normally give props.

My Disc Games would beg to differ

20 matches is a fairly small number if you asked me.

Maybe I just suck at reading but I feel like your results have been told really vaguely can you maybe tell us in detail?

Same room.
Connected via wire to the same router, and using the same model of wire.

Twenty Matches on Xbox One
Twenty Matches on Xbox Series X

Forty Matches total.

Xbox One featured more rubber-banding issues occurring every other match while my Series X experienced it only twice in that testing session.

Xbox One featured more player-ribboning than the Series X (you ducked behind cover but on the enemy screen you were still walking from A-to-B out of cover so they could shoot you and the server still registered it as a hit)

Xbox One also featured me not being shot at by my enemies during engagements, instead shooting where I just was during an occasional fight.
And I think I know why.
On my Series X, I have noticed that I encounter players that seem to teleport in a new direction. I now think that these are Xbox One players. Whenever I would shoot at these players, they would suddenly teleport like five-feet to the side or even be suddenly in the air. I think I even have a clip on my Xbox where a guy dropped from a balcony towards me; but as soon as I fired upon the dude he suddenly teleported upwards and was like twenty feet in the air.
I think what is happening here is that the Xbox One is having difficulty synchronizing with servers and therefore it isn’t registering imputs at the right moments BUT still continuing animations as projected. That guy that dropped from the balcony had CLEARLY jumped from the balcony ledge rather than just pressing forwards to drop down. And as soon as my shots applied to this “server ghost” and realized that those shots don’t register, the playermodel then teleported to where the guy’s perspective was on HIS screen; which was twenty feet over my head.

Also on my Xbox One, shots are CLEARLY not registering.
I shot a guy in Fiesta with a Skewer . . . TWICE.
He lived both shots and had a skewer bolt in his thigh and his throat, glowing hot metal spike protuding from the armor and no damage applied.
He only died when I shot him with my AR and immediately died to the delayed reaction of the Skewers.
This kind of stuff happened CONSTANTLY on my Xbox One, but very rarely on my Series X.
I shot this guy four times with my BR?
Only two-or-three volleys register with hitmarkers.
I am rapidly approaching a guy with my AR blazing his back as I follow him?
I am seeing far too few hitmarkers for how many bullets are clearly streaming into his back. Sure like three-or four miss as the reticle expanded, but when I megadump someone from behind and they still have shields intact; something is definitely off.

Halo Infinite was designed for Next-Gen hardware and it clearly CHUGS AND STRUGGLES on Last-Gen hardware.
And I was playing on Vanilla Xbox One for these tests, not the Slim or the One X.
