Season 1, Episode 5
Dangers of New Things
New Bond & The Drive Storyline
Doctor Camille, observed the Security Officer with some regard. Her diplomatic nature of the laboratory had been undermined by this Security Officer militarising her area. She knew that she could do nothing but groan about her presence in the laboratory. Section, even the security area, were difficult to refute. She just decided that she would let her do what she needed to do, and that she would do what she needed to do. She would find solutions to problems, or problems to current solutions.
Greg unlocked the bio crate he had taken from the locker. The climate and nature of Winter made oxygen generation difficult. Yet, the planet was capable of sustaining an atmosphere capable of supporting Human life. Greg was trying to uncover the difference between usual oxygen generation and the biosphere of Winter. He had identified how the leaves were able to survive the climate of Winter, but further progression of his research had not happened.
Greg saw Doctor Camille leave, with her usual look of nothingness replaced with disdain, obviously thanks to their new security officer, who Greg had learned was called Lisa, with her being called Davids by the Hydra team. He had no dared call her by her name, simply referring to her as Officer Davidson whenever he needed to talk to her.
He did observe her with some daring quality, as she was naturally beautiful. She was most likely 5’10 in Height, with a slim build. However, she had a rough exterior by her as anyone would register by being in her presence. Her new black uniform with the Hydra Security Insignia were a complete contrast to his white, worn lab outfit. The former could be mistaken as over time it had been turned to a more grey colour than a white. He was caught staring at her, with both acknowledging it.
“Can I help you, Greg?” Davids asked Greg. Greg, embarrassed, hastily replied.
“Sorry, Officer Davidson. Lost in my train of thought.” He lied to her, hoping she would buy it. She didn’t. She however did notice that he was quite embarrassed in what had happened as he had hastily moved back over to his work.
She thought this man, not built to be a scientist, was quite strange. The man was built for war, as he was nearly the same size as Captain Arctic maybe a little smaller. Sergeant Fox must of been disappointed when he was not transferred into Section. She felt a bit uncomfortable to be fair. She had never had anyone look at her the way Greg had. She only knew a life of war, crime and servitude. That was unspoken territory for her, and she was just as happy that it was over just as much Greg was.
Over the constant silence of the laboratory, she had plenty time to think. One thought kept sticking out to her, how the security officer knew her name but not his face. When he talked about the Sniper on Homestead IV. If only they knew what actually happened before and after, then maybe things would be different. Maybe should would not be in this room now. Suddenly, her train of thought was taking back as Doctor Camille abruptly entered the Lab. She quickly approached Davids.
Shouting to her, “Out of my way Section, I need to look in my Locker.”
As she pushed past Davids, she went to grab for her pistol, quickly realising that she was not protecting anyone and the shove meant nothing. She instead simply stood At-Ease waiting for Camille to leave. She then spoke to Greg, in a slightly less rude tone she had when shouting to her.
“If they are going to give us these cores, then we might as well conduct some tests on them. We are going to the Test Site, bring the equipment Gregory.”
“On it Doctor.” Greg responded.
“And you, err, what is your name again?” she directed to Davids
“Security Officer, Lisa Davidson Doctor.” She said in a militaristic tone, which she could tell annoyed the Doctor.
“Good, so you can move this for us Section, since I cannot get rid of you.”
The three of them made their way out of the lab, heading towards the Test Site.
The Old & New Storyline
With some things, the smell of landing on a new planet never changed for Harold. It was always different, the thrill of excitement and adrenaline he had experienced since his very first drop. Being a former ODST, leaving the UNSC was like leaving his family to join the Army all over again. Only this time, he had over 20 years field experience and a distinguished military record.
Officially, Project Extinction did not have any ODST affiliated areas. But Harold had spent time with ONI, and he understood the difference between official and reality. When he would be in a pod again, he did not know. He only knew that he would be in one again.
The cold hit him like a bullet to the chest, one of the few things he was not expecting. They were not joking when they called it Winter. A Section Trooper directed them towards an opened hanger door. He was quite clear alongside the other men and women who were dropped of in the Pelican, being nearly 15 years their senior. He still cut his own weight, bringing in his own equipment and the equipment of a strappy kid.
A Sound Design Storyline
“Alright everyone, back away. This might not work.” He shouted to everyone, who were already well away from him at this point. The man shouting this, Jay, was going for the fifth attempt of his current project. Climate Control Shields. He turned it on. And it worked.
“It works! It actually works!..I mean, I knew it would work.” Some groans came from the onlookers. However, the test was not over. Jay had to test whether it stopped the snow. He placed some snow over the shield, and to his amazement. It did not work. The snow simply slipped straight threw.
A few people chuckled, most had already expected it to fail. However, now all of them had moved back to their own projects. The hub was now alive of machinery and technology once again.
“Well, it could of exploded like last time.” Jay said to himself, however Mario overheard him.
“How goes your bomb, I mean CC System?” Mario said jokingly.
“Funny.” He smirked. “Worse than my redesign of Section Command. At least I got that to work.”
“You didn’t fix Section, they are still up jump Soldiers.”
“I mean the building.” He knew he was being sarcastic, but still had to correct him.
“Anyhow, I need to check on their upkeep for their next operation. Let me know if you make any breakthroughs till then.”
“Do I get anything if I tell you?” he asked, sarcastically.
“I would say a girlfriend, but we both know you can’t get one.” And with that, Mario left Jay to his project. Time for Test Number 6.
