(Project A) Valorant the Halo Infinite Killer?

I’m a huge halo fan and have been playing the game since Halo CE release, however I’m worried about Halo Infinite. Riot games is creating what could be the greatest FPS game we have seen in a very long time. They are taking the best elements of Counter Strike and Overwatch and making a hybrid like game.

Halo has deviated from the arena, tracking based, hit scan shooter it once was. This is what made Halo 2 and Halo 3 so popular, but the series is diverging from what made the games so great (Halo 5 was on the right track). There is still a hole that has yet to be filled from where halo 2 and halo 3 left off. I still can’t think of a classic arena, tracking based shooter that a gamer could play today. You could play quake I guess, but the movement speed isn’t for everyone. Destiny 2 has a halo feel to it, but lacks the classic arena competitive elements. There really isn’t anything out there that mimics halo 2 or 3.

I think there is still a nitch to be filled that the old halo games once occupied. Listening to the community is what makes for a successful game, and I’m hoping with the release of Valorant, 343 industries can finally understand what makes a great FPS. Valorant as great as it will be, still won’t offer a tracking based arena style game. Halo Infinite needs to capitalize on this, and bring back the series to what it once was.

Well I posted this a few days before the game came out. The numbers were bigger than i thought. Think 343 will learn from Riot Game’s success?

I haven’t followed Valorant too closely but I know what it is and I’ve seen a bit of gameplay of it

Is the game going to release on consoles as well as PC? If so, then sure it might give Halo Infinite some competition. But if it’s PC only? Then some people will certainly prefer to play Valorant over Infinite but it won’t affect people who mainly play on console like me or people who have no gaming PC at all so it won’t affect Halo on Xbox. And if COD or Battlefield or Overwatch or any game/game series hasn’t totally killed Halo then Valorant most likely won’t either

Really, the biggest threat to Halo Infinite is itself, in that if 343 doesn’t make the amazing Halo game we’ve all been waiting for then it’ll kill itself without any other games needing to help

“Really, the biggest threat to Halo Infinite is itself”

lol Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Valorant doesn’t really seem like it’s in Halo’s niche for shooters. It’s gonna compete more with Counterstrike than Halo. You have to keep in mind that games only really compete within sub-genres. Contrary to what some might think, it’s not really about whether a shooter is Arena or Tactical, it’s more about pacing. Valorant is a slower paced game, more about paying very close attention to your surroundings and moving very carefully through a map. VS Halo which is a medium paced action shooter, hence it competing with the likes of Call of Duty. Even faster paced shooters like Quake and Unreal don’t really compete with Halo either, despite Halo fitting into the Arena category.

By all indication Valorant and Halo are not at all direct competitors outside of both of them technically being shooters. Rainbow Six Siege seems like a better comparison given both of those game are round based “Hero” shooters. Unless you are one of the 4 people who really loved Breakout, I can’t imagine this appealing to anyone looking for an alternative to Halo.

Otherwise the only thing to really take away from Valorant should it be successful would be that we may have yet another high profile shooter without sprint.

Also I’d like to point out Halo didn’t start out being hitscan and should return to its roots as a projectile based game.

I think that nothing will beat Halo because it is its own game and you can’t make a game die if it all ready has a huge fan base waiting for the game which most likely will be good plus it’s all ready having a split-screen functionality which will bring back a lot of fans. Plus we haven’t had a good game in years and also a Halo game, BTW i think halo 5 is good aside from no split screen and supply drops. The only thing I’m worried about is if i can’t play Halo Infinite because I have an original Xbox One. Most of the people who play Halo are not very competitive which is good so everyone can have fun on it. I think that with Halo 5’s new controls and mechanic’s it really made it a good and fun game, I hope they keep it and add more things. I think personally that they should make a double jump with the booster you have but, don’t make it too crazy (or make the jump high i mean). I think that we all agree that completing the campaign alone should level you and give armor pieces, and on legendary should give something extra as well.
I hope that Halo infinite will get rid of supply drops like we’ve seen with the new Modern Warfare, this will make the game like the good old days were hard work and dedication will unlock stuff. I feel like with how games are right now they are so bad and should just been like the older games just with new items, story and better graphics then what they are now.Anyways I think you wont beat or kill a game that is just way too different than the newer games out right now.
Message me if u would like to join my Spartan company I need more players.GDK

The games share practically nothing in common other than both being FPS.

One is a PC-only, tactical shooter with hero abilities.

The other is a multi-platform arena shooter with homogenous characters.

Halo 3 wasn’t hitscan and Valorant is a hero shooter. If Infinite fails, it’s on its own design and popularity in the modern age of gaming.

As someone who really loved Overwatch back in the day, I can honestly say that Valorant doesn’t really look all that appealing to me. To be completely honest it looks kind of boring even.

As a comparison though, Infinite doesn’t have to contend with it regardless of whether it is or is not fun because the games are far too different in terms of style.

It’s a Counter-Strike competitor that can run on a toaster if you wish, and ftp one on top of that. It will do great! Especially in China and Korea where RIOT goes strong.

As a CS fan? Really interesting! Is it a Halo killer? Absolutely not.
