So the max rank as of now is 107/130 and the game has only been out around 15 days. Do you guys think getting the max rank doesn’t take enough time?
Personally, I was surprised when I found out that every new specialization you enlist in, the xp from level 1 to 2 is only like 10k XP. I was expecting the levels to gradually increase in XP needed like in Reach.
Now I’m not saying the progression system should be as long as Reach. I know a lot of people complained that it was too long and they never got to reach Inheritor but imo Halo 4’s progression system seems wayyyyyy too short.
I guess its not like rank means anything so doesnt matter how long you hit it? Im guessing the average rank is around 40-45 atm though , people at 107 bring it on themselves from playing too much.
Hopefully CSR adds replay value next year. Also it wouldnt suprise me if you can reset your rank to zero in some form of prestige mode lol.

Actually prestige mode did a good job in CoD. Hardcore players had to collect again and again their favorite guns and equipment, so they were not overpowered when it comes to play with less hardcore players. I wouldn’t mind if they implented something similar in Halo, as long as they won’t take my armour and emblem. In previous Halo games you had same equipment no matter what level you where. Personally I can’t even imagine, how someone could play 20 or 30 times more than myself, using same old boring BR/DMR all the time… The more I see all those hardcore Halo fans, the more I think there should be at least 1000 levels in Halo 4.

Yeah I understand the ranks atm don’t really mean anything but it does keep a lot of people playing. Reach was my least favourite Halo at the time but the fact that I still needed levels kept me playing. When I hit Inheritor I played a whole lot less. I can see myself hitting the max rank at around mid-December which leaves me at least a month if not more of playing “for the sake of it.”
Don’t get me wrong, I like Halo 4 and I think it has so much more potential but in its current state there is little to none replay value IMO. The fact that I can’t see myself playing the current Halo game 1-2 months after release and waiting for a competitive skill based ranking system to come out really depresses me.
The ranking in this game is unimaginative and leaves alot to be desired. I cant see myself playing this in a couple of months either. There is no incentive to continue playing and climbing ranks. Every game before this had the better ranking system. Halo reaches was long, which was great in essence, you could continue playing throughout your entire career and gain rank.
Halo 3 had 3 ranks!!! One for the playlist, a trueskill number rank AND your overall rank. Thats insane. no wonder people loved this halo over reach and this game.
As of the ranking system and how it stands now there is no difference from playing well and doing horrible. The exp gained is based solely on victory and game completion, and is too little. On paper this might be a good idea to get people to play the objective, but really in turn this just allows teams to attack the weaker players without playing the objective because they fear matchmaking times will just hinder they’re gameplay time, so they continue to farm instead. Also, theres no incentive to play any different, it leaves the game’s progression system stale and boring. Completeing a regicide game with over 30 kills and still getting the usual 2900 something xp is depressing.
I really hope some kind of rank is implemented and something is altered or changed. as of right now i cant see myself playing this game very long, and i want to, but the progression system as of right now is a snore fest and lacks where other games shine. I DO NOT think adding 1-50 is enough or even acceptable as a fix to the people who enjoy ranking up and climbing through the ranks.

> Sorry for the wall of text.
Yeah I agree. There really is no incentive to carry on playing. It sucks because I really WANT this game to thrive. It deserves to had the game has potential. It’s just the way the progression system was implemented similar to Reach is really disappointing. I thought 343 had learnt from the mistake that Reach made but obviously not.
> Ranks mean nothing really. Just a Number (Hell not even a cool icon to go with anymore.)

> I’ll be honest, as much as i like leveling up, i find it’s a lot more satisfying when you have to earn it.
Yeah I get that some people don’t really care for these progression ranks however a lot of people do find that a longer progression system keeps them playing.
> The progression ranking should take a short amount of time to get through, since you unlock game-changing abilities with it.
>
> There are many other things to add replay value, like commendations and daily/weekly/monthly challenges.
For some, yes. Some players find challenges and commendations interesting and keeps them playing. But there are a large portion of other players who find that a short progression system takes away the fun of the game if they hit the max rank after a few months.
My question is; What happens when players hit the end of the progression ranks? What is going to keep them playing? As it stands right now I am at SR-46 have one AA left to unlock and am bored with Halo 4. I mean, I get there are specilizations and the like, but why bother? This is not like an MMO where the real game starts at max rank, but a progression system with a definate end. Are 343i going to add in something like prestiging?
See this is the problem with progression based xp systems, they offer nothing to the player once the player achieves/gets what they want. They may stick around for a week or two after getting those items then they eventually just leave.
Wait guys can’t you just play for fun? That’s what we did in 2&3 right? Or did you all just grind with friends to 50 and quite playing? I’m confused as to why an arbitrary sense of progression should limit your ability to enjoy the game. That’s what it’s there for . To have fun right? I don’t know maybe I’m getting old but I play for fun not just some arbitrary number by my name.
I think what they were saying is that while the progression is pretty damn short, that’s so that people can get access to the things they ant loadout wise without taking months, but they also were saying that people will be working on commendations long after they hit 130, so I guess longer commendations + unlockable armor for commendations is the progression to replace Reach’s inheritor, though I don’t think it’s quite that long.
I think the progression is fine - in Reach it was bore - took way too long to level. If I wasn’t stuck on 70 for the last few days; my rank could have possibly been in 100’s.
And I will continue playing this game even after I’m 130 because it’s quite fun. Very fun.
I’ve played all the Halo games and read a majority of all the books. NEedless to say, I’m a huge fan.
The progression system in H3 was great. When Reach came out, I stopped after level 43. It took MUCH too long to rank up, and I honestly wasn’t engaged at all. Oh new looking armor on my status page, but nothing was changed when in the game. I think 343 has done a great job with the ranking system. I’m glad it will not take forever to get all the special loadouts (I wish I could get more loadouts than 5). The game has been out a 2 weeks. Give it time guys, I know 343 won’t let us down. Fix the damn networking issues and spawn points!
