Progression needs a full head-to-toe rework, not minor tweaks

It was honestly so disappointing for me to realize today that despite the utterly outstanding gameplay 343 has crafted for Halo Infinite I didn’t even want to play the multiplayer today after less than a week in. This is 100% due to the completely nonsensical, broken progression system that launched with this beta. This isn’t something that needs a couple minor tweaks to nail down, it needs to be scrapped and replaced entirely. The XP from challenges, plus the paltry 50xp per match, is insulting to players. In 2021 things like XP from kills, obj completions, match/round wins, medals, etc are standard.

There are so many problems with the current progression system it would be too lengthy to list each one. But what it boils down to really is that this wasn’t a mistake or accident, this was all by design and for profit. The amount of care that was obviously shown in creating this SUPERB Halo sandbox shows the dedication of the team at 343 to crafting a truly memorable experience with Infinite. So do I think for a second they all just dropped the ball so completely with this failure of a progression system? No way. They hope and believe (and sadly they are likely correct) that people will just buy level skips to progress as most people don’t have the time to play Halo 10 hours a day every day in hopes that they get enough Oddball games to come up in the completely random playlist to get their ball kill challenge done.

This system doesn’t reward freedom to play how you want, as they have falsely claimed up to the launch. It doesn’t incentivise good performance, as I get the same 50xp whether I get 30 kills in slayer or 2. The entire progression system is backwards, broken and meaningless and I urge 343 to seriously consider a sweeping revamp rather than minor tweaks. Sadly they will lose players because of their poor judgement with this, and people will miss out on one of the greatest competitive FPS experiences out there, because there is no acknowledgement of their achievements and time spent in game.

I’ll tell you what. If this is what the progression system will be like, you can count on me never buying a battle pass. Not only that, but the customization is so curated that I don’t even care that much to pay money, to progress and get stuff I don’t even really care for to the degree of work it requires.

I’ll be fine just playing F2P without battle pass. That’s enough for me.

The current progression system is incompetent at best, and malicious at worst. I can’t believe 343 thought this was good enough to launch with.

This will probably “kill” the game, if people have bad impressions right from the start, many will leave and never return especially players who are new to Halo, then let’s see how much mtx they will sell if a significant part of players leave. That’s sad. :expressionless:

I like Halo Infinite’s gameplay, I really do, but it gets so freaking boring after playing several matches. Completing Challenges use to be a minor feature, added only to give some extra flavor to the players, now it is so heavily relied on that there is nothing else to work towards in the game… no more commendations, no armors, weapons, equipment, nothing to work towards except the $10 Season pass on a “Free to play” game… and for what… completing all of these challenges to unlock the same freaking armors, emblems, etc they gave us for free in previous Halos.

I don’t know, it feels more like 343 gave everyone with an Xbox a really pretty Empty Glass with a Halo logo on it, and then if you want to fill up that glass every few months, you’ll have to pay $10 or more.

I truly have no idea why players like this new system of multiplayer in ANY GAME… you are quite literally getting an unfinished game and then being tricked into paying real money for cosmetic upgrades that have NO IMPACT on gameplay, the only impact it has is you can show off your “rewards” a few weeks earlier… but then those morons are left sitting on their hands with nothing to do now lol

I know the Fortnite kids are starting to become of age but how are players becoming this ignorant?

I found myself completely ignoring objectives to satisfy my challenge needs as I’ll still get my 50xp at the end of the game, regardless of winning or losing. Performance is of little, to no concern as well.

It’s funny cause it’s incompetent at being greedy, my friend would gladly whale for it but the game won’t let him. If they added cross core customization he would give them all his money.

I am the same as your friend :joy:

Yeah, if people thought that they get a good deal, they would buy more, but they don’t seem to understand that the more the player is happy, the more things they pay. It’s like they only see the price “20 bucks > 5 bucks so we put high price because high gain” but they don’t think about the long term benefits, having a loyal playerbase that enjoy the game is more profitable in the long run.

Honestly they could easily fix it by adding performance-based XP for score milestones either for the team or the individual, depending on the gametype. It’s such a simple solution that solves everybody’s problems unless you suck at the game.
100xp bonus for winning a match.
150xp whenever your team captures a flag
150xp for every 10 kills you individually earn in Slayer
150xp for every round won in Oddball
Maybe 450xp for every rampage you earn.
Etc.
I believe you should be able to progress a stage every match if you’re legendary at the game,

I know they are breakfix, but they should add an additional repeating daily. 50xp for each win. Therefore you get 100xp for a won completed game. 50xp for just playing. (Or even 100xp for the win to really push it people to play properly).

Damn you just said what I said LOL this is exactly what we need. Orr like…that seems like a lot but XP boosts for performance for sure!!

would spend $5 easily on those armors.

They could simply add military ranks and it would fix 99% of the problem. I’d be totally fine if my battle pass was moving a little slow whilst my game xp, kills xp, assists, etc. helped level up my military rank.

I mean yeah those numbers seem a bit excessive but it’s coming from someone who doesn’t have all day to play Halo.

You should be awarded for how you play, not how they want you to play, challenge-based progression exists solely to inflate play time, it is not engaging.

I guess $5 could be a good price for a whole armor set, if the game had many free base armors parts like before, and you could pay for more it would be great, but here we have almost nothing and we have to pay to get the bare minimum.
If it was like that I would spend money on the shop without feeling bad, now I don’t even want to, that’s a great financial strategy I guess. :upside_down_face:

I absolutely agree. I would pay 5 bucks right now to get the EVA armor. (I don’t purchase the battle pass in the foreseeable future).

That’s a little too OP. Based on my performance I’d be levelling up 2 levels a game. Get where your coming from though and we need something like that, maybe 50xp less for each item you mentioned?

I got only a handful of decent challenges. Get kills with AR, sidekick, BR, commando, Spartan kills. Are all totally okay challenges by me. They are standard spawn weapons and you have to kill to play so those are the ONLY ones I’ve found to be okay
