So I completed the battle pass a couple of weeks ago, and while I’ve certainly had fun just playing the game I’ve been considering ways to make the game more rewarding for completionist like myself.
If you are unaware, once you reach 100 you have no incentives to complete challenges except for the capstone challenge reward. To me, it would make more sense to reward those who have completed the season with xp grants for completing their challenges. These grants should reward less than the challenge is worth because honestly, people will complain if they don’t have anything to work towards once the new season is out and they had enough xp grants to boost through the whole season, this community has a tendency to complain about anything.
Customization…Man lets jump on this. So, I’m cool with the over top attachments (looking at you cat ears), but I’m not cool with the rotational shops. 343i does a good job with transparency, so why isn’t shop availability the same? Show us everything that is available, have it available all at once. We were promised there would be no FOMO but honestly? Only showing big ticket items for a week and not giving any kind of preview of what’s to come will make people feel pressured to get an item they might not be their favorite overall because they don’t know if their favorite is even available or what that favorite is without ever seeing it. Show us what’s ready and throw a price on it, it’ll also give us better feedback on helping adjust the costs of these items, some of these bundles simply aren’t worth their cost. Use the campaign as your standard. A 100 percent legendary experience without any prior knowledge or guide is at least 30 hours of enjoyment, at 60 bucks, that’s fair and fun. Scratched up Ruby and Gold paint? Not worth a 1/3 of the cost of that experience. In game currency tends to break our line of sight of what these points are actual worth in real money and that might be standard for most games, but consider this also, buying in game currency is like working for a company that pays you in vouchers for their own shop, your 5.00 dollars is no longer your 5.00 dollars, it’s points you can only use in the halo shop. Just give us real cash prices, we don’t need some kind of lore tie-in explaining how they’re credits for the UNSC or something. It’s our money for our entertainment.
Also it’s too late to not irritate the fanbase by fixing it, but it should be fixed regardless: COATINGS.
Take a look back about 3 years ago at EA’s Anthem. Yes it was killed by it’s fanbase, but look at what it did well (which was a lot, the game is beautiful). It’s customization was phenomenal. SO much detail and individuality could be achieved because individual pieces were independent and could have their own textures and colors. You could buy different textures or earn them in the game’s story/free roam/dungeons. You could then pick your own colors for those textures. Meaning you’d have vastly different suits in the game unique to each person. You could tie these colors and textures and armor pieces all into a progression system and people would eat it up. The variations would be unending and it would keep people engaged.
Just one last thing I found myself missing after some matches: Pre-game lobbies, yes it has the potential to go south horribly, but on the flip side, I’ve had some hilarious teammates that I wish I had another match with, but didn’t see who was on the mic talking for me to get their gamertag and lobby up with.
Feel free to disagree with me, I’m putting my opinion out here. I love the game even without the progression system. I’d like to make the game better if I could.
