Problems With Halo Waypoint Forums

Hello,

I just wanted to point out the issues I’m having with the Halo Waypoint forums, so that hopefully someone could look into them, and also ask if anyone else has been having problems as well?

Email Notifications - I haven’t received a single email notification for thread activity or PM’s received

PM’s Default to “Accept from Buddies Only” - I’ve tried to send multiple people a PM, but they haven’t received them, because not too long ago, everyone’s profile was set to only accept PM’s from buddies. I didn’t even know that my own account had this problem until someone else was talking about it in a thread.

No Warning That Member Will NOT See Your PM Due to Their Account Setting - Combine this and the previous issue, and you’re left wondering if they ever got your message.

PM’s Not Showing Up in Sent Items - And this completes the trifecta. Again, I’ve tried to send multiple people a PM, and NONE of them have shown up in my Sent Items. Since I don’t know if they ever saw the PM, even if I send them a buddy request or ask them to change their settings, I have no clue what was all said in my private message to them, and I have no way to resend it, or copy and paste the text from the message.

Can’t View All of a Member’s Posts - If you want to reference a post that someone made, you’d better hope that it’s still in their Last 10 Posts, because if not, you’re S.O.L. When you click on “View All Posts,” you are taken to a page that tells you “Access Denied - you don’t have access to this area,” or something like that.

These are just some of the issues I’ve had so far. Is it possible to get some feedback on these from a CM or Forum Admin?

Also, what problems have you all had so far?

That’s been disabled since E3 when the servers kept crashing. I believe it’s on the list of things to add back in!

That was changed right before the launch of Halo 4. I believe it was to prevent people spoiling the campaign of Halo 4 (when it was leaked) via PM. It does prove problematic when it comes to situations such as yours, and given how Halo 4 is already out, I don’t know why it’s still set that way.

The “View All Posts” relies on the Search function, which has also been disabled since E3. I know for a fact that it’s a high priority on the list of things to bring back!

It did actually, so thanks for that!

I’m glad to hear that they are aware of the issues and are currently looking to fix the issues / reimplement those couple of features, but out of all of them, I really hope that the PM setting is changed soon. That one setting would fix the three problems people are having when trying to get in contact with someone. It definitely makes it difficult to have a conversation when they don’t even realize that their account is set that way, or that a message was even sent to them. For example, a few days ago someone sent me a PM, and I replied as soon as I saw it, but seeing as it never made it to my Sent Items, I’m assuming that they aren’t able to receive my PM; for all I know, they might think that I ignored their message, which is unfortunate.

As for the Email Notifications, it’s really not a big deal since you can still properly Favorite a thread and view it from the My Topics area of your profile, and PM’s will give you an “Unread Message Icon” in the upper-right corner of your browser. Being able to view all of someone’s post is kind of a big deal, but mostly also because of the PM setting- if you didn’t Favorite the thread they posted in, your next best bet is to contact them about it, but again, if they haven’t changed their PM setting…

Although, I have to admit that it was very thoughtful of 343i to change the setting to prevent Halo 4 spoilers. Even if you didn’t read someone’s PM, they could still ruin it for you in the Subject line, and if Email Notifications were still turned on as well, they could ruin it for you without you even being on the website.

An Issue that I have with the forums so far is that I can not easily follow the threads I have opened, unless I remember to add it to my favorites list.

I dont know if it has ever been a feature on these forums as I am new to them, but I know lots of other forums allow you to track threads you have opened. Even if you add it to only show the last 10 threads you have had activity on it would be a nice feature to add.

Just a suggestion.

My main issue with the forums right now is the fact I will randomly get logged out and have to sign in again for no apparent reason, on Firefox it isn’t an issue because if I hit post, get logged out and lose my posts, I can hit the back button and it will be saved, but for other browsers, this isn’t the same outcome.

Other issues I can’t mention because it is against the rules to do so, but I’ll just say, inconsistencies from the guys in charge.
