Problems with Halo 5

Halo 5 has some serious problems and some minor irritants. Some of these are my opinion, but I try to explain.
Major Problems:

  • lack of content (no forge, limited game types, limited playlists) - poorly written story (my opinion is that its incoherent, predictable, and not related enough to advertising) - poor map design (caused by sprint and new abilities) - sprint (caused poor map design) - armor that looks all the same for the most part - user interface that provides less information than previous ones - frustrating mechanics (thruster pack, sprint, spartan charge, clamber) - an unusual aim system (if you hit someone, its almost always a headshot, but hitting somebody is slightly difficult) - a ranking system that does not strongly encourage continued play - flawed spawn systems (longer respawn time, but a tendency to spawn predictably or near opponent) - micro transactions and a completely random unlock system - radar that does not have similar effectiveness as previous titles - no split-screen - no social playlists for slayerMinor Irritants:

  • “smart scope” (why was it changed, to attract new people!?) - Spartan Charge and ground pound (gimmicky, annoying, and dumb) - not all power weapons are marked (example: On Truth only the plasma caster is marked, but the energy sword and overshield are not) - active camo and overshield animations (what was the point?) - active camo no longer displays a dot showing the enemy’s location (should be the way it was in Halo 3, not Halo:Reach or Halo 4, as that would make camo useless) - the time it takes to switch playlists in matchmaking - long intro sequences to warzone and breakout - lack of truly new gamemodes (breakout = warzone from Gears of War, Warzone is essentially invasion, strongholds is territories 3 plots) - frustrating controls (example: hold x to stabilize, but that means using my right thumb, and I need that to aim, and hold b to ground pound, which means I need to use my right thumb, which I need to aim.) - a large number of maps are copies of each other (Example: Regret and Truth, Eden and Empire) - a large number of forge maps (forge maps aren’t bad, but a playlists should have real maps as well) - blinding sun on some maps, extra bright energy sword (it is completely pointless and annoying) - errors in loading req system - errors in loading post-game stats - limited post game stats (why no medals) - showing K/D in a game (show it after to discourage worrying about K/D during game) - removal of ability to fully customize emblem colors (what was the point?) - inability to fully customize armor (only helmet, and chest) - sniper rifle has needler-like headshot seeking bullets (it should be skillful) - mantis shield bar no longer displayed(displays shields of operator no vehicle) - no UNSC air vehicle (how hard is it to make one? Just look on the internet!) - mantis has extra loud walking noise (could it be a little quieter?) - some smart scopes take up the entire screen (annoying, obstructive) - obtaining DMR for warzone is really difficult - for REQ packs: abundance of earning similar items over and over - message of the day popping up (I do not need to read it, if it’s important I’ll notice while playing) - no players vs enemies mode besides campaign such as firefight or spartan ops - muting somebody before a game starts takes too much effort - no armor based on completing campaign, earning achievements, or unlocking collectibles - cannot see armor of other people (how else am I supposed to know what looks interesting?) - armor gets dark colored when looking in menu and then pressing b - cannot see names of players before game - cannot back out of lobby if game has found some people (what if I have a change in plans?) - cannot see opponents ranks before entering game - cannot see CSR if not ranked Onyx or Champion (what’s the point?) - most emblems have to be unlocked (why change the system?) - nameplates change based on emblem - no campaign score - no campaign timer - no par score or par time - no restart mission button - repeated fighting of Warden EternalThese are all of the problems I can think of as of right now. If 343 can correct some of these problems, Halo 5 could be much better.

I agree with:

    You obviously don’t like change. Like you Ive played all the halos and a bunch of other shooters. I welcome the new changes made to halo other than some minute game mechanics. Take advantage of the new armor abilities they can turn the tide in your favor. Warzone gives us a chance to see how “modifiers” effect the gameplay. Ive noticed lately that even Warzone can get just as competitive as Arena.

My biggest issue with this game in terms of content is the 10 based armor sets and then the 5 different variants of the armor. And the fact there are ten to twenty different warthogs, mongessess, scorpon tanks,. And redundant color visors (no difference between “Ecto and Slime Green”). All the different variants makes it harder to get what you want. But if you think about in the long run everybody will have almost unlocked everything.
