I just wanna say that these complaints are based off of my own personal experience with Halo 5
-Worst map design in the entire series, and that’s saying something considering 4 had terrible maps. Some of the map layouts aren’t very good, but it’s not even that, it’s the details in the maps that serve no other purpose than just to make the map look pretty. For example, some maps have pipes on the walls or shelves up against the walls that weapons sit on, and if you try to bank a grenade off the wall and accidentally hit these things, your grenade will just fall straight down or be knocked back at you. I’ve been killed this way and it’s frustrating because it’s never been like this in past Halos. Some maps also have too many rounded walls that make grenade placement difficult, and Truth and Regret have too many rounded walls that curve towards the ground instead of going straight down, and you can’t walk over these curved parts, so you end up walking into them and getting stuck on them, which could cause you to get killed while you’re trying to escape. The map Fathom has this little lip sticking up on each side of the bridge that make it where you can’t just walk off the sides and they force you to jump, which has gotten me killed. I could give more examples, but my point is 343 shouldn’t just add a bunch of details just to make the maps look good if they’re gonna affect gameplay in some way
-The radar is too short ranged. I’ve gotten used to it, but I still get killed due to the short range sometimes and I don’t think 343 should remove what has always been an important part of Halo
-Spartan Abilities were a mistake, or at least the ones we have now. I’ve had about enough of Thruster. It gets old really fast when I would be about to kill someone and they just thruster away and live. Charge is terrible and should never have been put in the game. It’s not really that fair when someone zips around the corner and charges you before you have time to do anything, takes away your shields and half of your health, and knocks you away so you cant even melee them or anything (one reason this is so easy to do is because the radar doesn’t give enough information to prepare players for an enemy who plans on doing this). Ground Pound is dumb, but more tolerable than the charge. Clambering is alright, as well as sliding and Smart Link. But I think the charge is one of the biggest mistakes they made with Halo 5
-The spawns are the worst out of any game I’ve ever played. I’ve never been screwed by spawns so much in one game
-There is virtually no consistent weapon balance. One fight, the Storm Rifle wrecks the enemy. The next fight, the enemy guns down the Storm Rifle user with the Magnum faster than the Rifle user could ever hope to kill the enemy. I also can’t figure out how the DMR, BR, and Carbine are losing so easily to the Magnum, or how the AR has beaten the SMG at close range so easily. I can’t make sense of the weapon “balance” in this game, it just doesn’t make sense to me
-As OP said, power weapons spawn way too fast, as well as power-ups. There shouldn’t be 3 Fuel Rod Guns out at one time, and if the timers were lower like before, this wouldn’t happen. Then again, since 343 decided to try and make Halo 5 as fast as possible, the match would end too quickly for long timers
-Kill times are way too fast. There was a time where you could be getting shot from behind, turn around, and beat the guy who was shooting you because you were the better player. This doesn’t happen much now, because by the time you know they’re shooting at you, you’re already close to losing your shields, and you probably end up getting charged and killed in one hit anyway. Players have also never been punished this hard for missing one shot or burst in a fight and it’s due to the fast kill times
-Grenades are ridiculous. They bounce way too far, are too strong, and have seemingly cross-map range (overexaggerating on the range, but the range is still way too much). I can’t for the life of me figure out how to dodge grenades in this game because no matter where I move to, they still do a ton of damage
-The movement speed is too fast. Players zip across the map far too fast with the sprint and thruster speeds. It used to be dangerous to walk out into the middle of the map but now you can get to cover so quickly that being cautious hardly matters
-The game caters too much to the competitive part of the community. Halo 4 was too casual, Halo 5 is competitive, but I think Halo 3 was perfect. I hope 343 will find a better balance of casual play and competitive play in Halo 6
Overall, there are a lot of things in Halo 5 that I’m disappointed about. I don’t like how far they are straying away from what makes Halo Halo. Sure they did some good things like bringing back equal starts and all, but a lot of times, this game just doesn’t feel like the Halo I knew and loved. I’m not saying 343 should just make Halo 2/3 clones forever or anything, but there has to be some way to keep evolving Halo without adding Charge, Thrusters and other annoying stuff into the game
