Does anyone else experience Choppy gameplay with the series X on halo 5 or other games? There is definitely less input delay which helped the heavy aim etc. but im noticing a frame rate drop which is making the gameplay choppy. i know other people are struggling to enable “VRR” on the console itself on many different monitors that even have hdmi 2.0 so that means it could be a console issue that the one x did not have. Others also said they had choppy gameplay in COD warzone… i have managed to get my game running smooth finally with my new monitor that has AMD freesync but then im noticing more input lag which brings back the heavy aim basically lol. anyone have any suggestions?
The game needs patching but no one know if they will bother, they haven’t even acknowledged its existence 3 months later and ignore you if you ask them about it on twitter.

Same issues here. I’m on XSX with HDMI 2.1 with VRR on. Played on the One S before and although XSX is an upgrade in some ways for H5, the framerate issues are dreadful. Best suggestion I have is to close your other games and apps, as games you open will be in quick resume if not closed. The framerate problems get better for me the less games I have open/in quick resume. I usually click through the recent games/apps on the Home Screen, launch them, then go back home, hit start and quit the app. And repeat those steps through all those recent apps and launch H5 fresh. Generally this helps free up the system to run the game a little better, but it doesn’t always completely fix it. If it’s not perfect, it seems to get better after a few games. Alternatively, going to settings and doing a full shutdown could help too.
I put in a support ticket for this and the dedicated server issues that affect me every time I launch the game the first time. If you’re having those issues too, I usually start a custom game with my friend first to make sure we both connect and test out the framerate… then jump into matchmaking, assuming all is well. As for the support tickets, I haven’t heard any updates yet on fixes besides it being forwarded on to engineers to look into.
Luckily, I haven’t ran into many issues with other games. Occasionally, Warzone has some frame issues. Read somewhere that if you have frame issues in WZ, hold the Xbox button down on your controller to launch the power off console/controller menu and press B to exit and frame issues often disappear. It’s worked a few times for me, but certainly not every time.
Understand that some issues may be more related to the XSX hardware than the game itself, but it’s just disappointing that last gen hardware runs this game better. I really hope somebody gets it figured out. Seems like they should be relatively easy fixes.

Interesting news, that also makes me think it could be server issues with the XSX so people that are constantly getting there local server feel the issue less? Some people say they don’t feel it very much at all which is strange…Anyway i hope 343 fixes this asap!
*Update… i have possibly found out a solution to the annoying frame rate stutter issue with the Xbox series X and halo 5… What i did was purchase a new monitor that can run up to 144hz on HDMI but ALSO will run 100hz or 60hz on the monitor itself. This specific model (viewsonic XG240R) has a console setting which caps the monitors refresh rate at 60hz… Doing this and ALSO putting my xbox series X too 60hz makes Halo 5 run ALOT smoother then it did before and the stuttering is gone…My monitor also goes from 24hz-144hz which not all monitors go that low and this may be helping me with frame drops on halo 5… Not sure if that has an effect but again i have fixed the stuttering/screen tear problem by running 60hz on monitor AND 60hz on console with Halo 5 only…Of course when i play MCC i go back to 120hz on the console and 144hz max refresh rate for the monitor. Hope this helps! - McLagz

It took some time but we got a response:
John Junyszek on Twitter: “@NicmeistaR @343Postums No need to apologize for asking a question! While it may not have been public, we’ve done some digging with a few players, but weren’t able to find anything that pointed to the Series X. If we ever start seeing an increase in reports here, we can definitely take another look

Yeah Ive came back to halo 5 to try grind out to 152 before infinite and noticed it feels like that at times.
One thing Ive noticed as well is the top of the visor on your hud above the shield bar (campaign and online) has a very faint flicker to it. I dont know if thats always been there or not. Its more noticable on campaign since the visor huds arent as transparent. Its one of those things you dont really notice until you’ve seen it once.

That’s a bummer. Have been avoiding halo 5 due to this issue and would really like to play it again. Sounds like others are having success manually setting things, but I havn’t been willing to change monitor and xbox settings for a single game. I do pop in the forums every few weeks to see if the issue has been fixed. If there is a better way to report issues than the forum, would love to know what it is.
From what I heard H5 won’t be getting fixed. To sum it up it would take resources away from Infinite which is understandable but why don’t the MCC team just look at it? I don’t have the answers but I’m not a fan of H5 being the way it is.
Halo 5 is laggy on the series x. Me and my brother just got the new Xbox. I’m sure it will take a while for more people to come forward since the Xbox is so hard to get at the moment. Back to the original x box I go 🤦
