Problem with inverted flying controls (m&k)

For quite a while now there’s an issue with inverted aiming + flight controls when playing with mouse and keyboard, but apparently so far it’s not on the list of known bugs that will be fixed in future updates. That’s why I opened this thread, to spread awareness.

Here’s the issue:

I prefer to play with inverted controls, so I set both aiming and flight controls to “inverted”. I also prefer to play with mouse and keyboard and after checking I noticed that this issue doesn’t exist with the gamepad controls, so I guess that a rather small portion of the player base is effected by this considering that most people play with not inverted controls (and probably with controller). Setting aiming to “inverted” when playing with m&k works flawlessly in all the games in the MCC, but the flight controls have issues with that.

In short: Setting both, aiming and flying to “inverted” works as intended in Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST but not in the other games.

In Halo 1 and 2 Classic the aiming Inversion seems to override the flight Inversion (so when aiming is inverted, it doesn’t matter if flying is set to be inverted or not and in-game the flight controls are always inverted). But when aiming isn’t inverted and I set the flight controls to “inverted”, it works as it should. I personally am not bothered by this, but it’s still a bug that should be addressed.

In Reach, Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo 4 setting both, aiming and flying to “inverted” seems to cancel out the flight Inversion and flying is no longer inverted. That’s my personal big issue.

I opened a ticket for this problem and one of the support people gave me trouble shooting steps that I followed. Unfortunately the problem couldn’t be solved and considering that I also noticed it in the recent flight for Season 7 makes me think that it’s not a problem unique to me. I replied to the support person that the solution didn’t work and they’ll forward it to the developers. They also stated that more people who run into this problem should issue tickets because only then the developers will actively look into this.

So if anyone else who plays with mouse and keyboard and has their controls inverted could check if they have this issue and also submit a ticket, that would be great.

I play on PC and didn’t test if the bug is also present in the console version, but I guess that it is.

I play on controller, and yes the flight inversion issue is a thing there too. Why can’t you have the “inverted” settings more consistent, whether it be inverted compared to the look invert setting or have a simple setting regardless of what the look invert is. Like why do different games have that set differently?
While we’re at it, can we have consistent button mapping (or even custom button mapping for controllers because that never became a thing despite being promised a while ago) for the banshee bombs and tricks? Maybe it’s my specific button layout (universal zoom and shoot) has the issue with the bomb being on B in some games and on the right bumper on others. I never really remember which one it is on any given game until I trial and error my way to figuring it out, that extra time in multiplayer often getting me shot down before I familiarize myself with those controls.

Good to know. I only quickly tested it with controller in Halo 4 with both, aiming and flight inverted and it worked as it should.

Yeah, I remember the Banshee bomb button weirdness from my days when I played on console. It would be nice if every controller button could be remapped individually like it is the case with the m&k controls. Or at least put in global presets for vehicle controls.

I’m sure there’s an argument about preserving the original game (hence the backlash around the new halo 3 customizations and a main focus of this new season being restoring the classic ce), going so far as to insist the button layouts stay as they are. Honestly, 1: they’ll still have their classic buttons, and 2: the default “recon” started in halo 3 (mostly for the swapping of the black and white buttons for the bumpers), so the truly original buttons are more or less dead already

I play with controller on PC and I played inverted and inverted flying controls. Just played a game of Halo Reach and it didn’t matter whether I had my flying setting to inverted or default, it was default no matter what. Hopefully it is fixed soon.

Update: Season 8 is now out and this is still not fixed
