Probably A Stupid Question

I know this will sound dumb to most of you, but this is something I have to ask:

Were there Hunters in Halo 4?

I’ve beaten the Campaign a couple of times, alone and with friends, but I don’t really remember a lot of it. There was a lot of shooting Grunts and Elites and Knights, and I think Hunters show up in Spartan Ops. But for the life of me, I can’t recall a Campaign fight against them. I mean, they HAD to have been there, I’m not crazy, right?

Does this say more about my long-term memory, or about whether the encounters in Halo 4 are memorable or not?

I remember several.

There is no doubt the Hunter encounters in this game were subpar to their predecessors.

I give 3 reasons:

1. Not enough combat variety.

Everything was laid at your feet on Requiem (allied distraction, fuel rod gun). Likewise Composer, which was truly the worst due to how tame the combat was. When I read the achievement for killing 2 Hunters with sticky detonator, I was under the impression we would have to fight Hunters in a maze! Instead, it turned into a camp fest.

Furthermore, there was a lack of innovation. They did not have anything new at all to show us and they were far more vulnerable than Reach Hunters.

However, the Shutdown Hunter encounter was spectacularly done. There are many ways to dispatch of the Hunters, such alternative approach is even encouraged (achievement for knocking a Hunter off the ledge). The environment is ideal for melee-only challenges for those brazen enough.

My only disappointment with Shutdown (and this is very minor since most people wouldn’t have heard of such a concept) is how they cannot be led anywhere (like in Halo 1) and how you cannot skip them. I’d love to return with a Banshee, get a Hunter on top, and ferry it to the end of the level. :stuck_out_tongue:

2. No epic music playing.

Why does the Mantis get it’s theme music but the Hunters don’t? Though I like how Spartan Assault seems to have a remake of the Halo 1 Hunter theme. Hopefully the Hunters will have a theme like that in Halo 5.

3. Lack of interesting matchups.

Honestly, I’d have expected them to be accompanied by a bunch of Jackals or Drones (which were unfortunately absent).

I’d have loved to see a Hunter pair vs. a Battlweagon pair…

Their lack of teamwork with the Prometheans (i.e. Watchers did not bother shielding them) made them even more stagnant.

Yeap, we even have an acheivement to unlock for them.

You encounter a few pairs of hunters during the campaign. They are found in missions such as Composer.

Yes, there were hunters. If you don’t remember much about the campaign I suggest you play it again drug- and alcohol-free.

It’s not very nice to call someone a drug addict or an alcoholic because they can’t remember the 2 times in campaign where you had to fight a couple hunters.

Humor much?

Hunters were definitely there. I remember grabbing an Achievement by killing two of them with the Sticky Detonator. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be.

Even if it wasn’t a joke, just because someone drinks or uses drugs doesn’t make them an alcoholic or drug addict… all things in moderation.

As Sliding Ghost elaborately covered, there are 3 pairs of hunters in the game: end of requiem, middle of composer, and in the 3rd tower on shutdown.

I am an alcoholic drug addict & I didnt take offence to what he had wrote, I even recall fighting the hunters & getting the over the edge achievement, plus the other occasions I had to fight them!

Sadly, I agree, Hunters were easiest in this game. IMO, 2 and Reach has the most difficult ones.

Its a forgettable campaign.

this post above me deserves several more “thanks” than it has. this man (or woman) knows the truth.

Not as forgettable as 3, and before people get butthurt read this

I certainly didn’t find Halo 3’s campaign forgettable. Halo 4’s was however, and in my own experience, playing the campaign of Halo 4 was just more of a “chore”. I really only wanted to get the classic MK VI armor for my multiplayer Spartan.

Explain why, was it the action sequences? They sure as hell sacrificed good storytelling for those, Bungie have no idea how to tell a good story, it seems they lost all intelligence in that department after CE, what I put in another thread was

> it was a disappointment, the writing was bad, way too many action sequences in a row, inconsistencies like only the Elites siding with Humans even though Halo 2 set it up to be more than it was, BACKTRACKING in Crows Nest you start in one room go to point A return to start room go to point B return to start room go to point A again, awful AI, but this has been a problem with every Halo following CE, Bungie were too scared at the idea of risking doing Arbiter missions again (one of Halo 2’s redeeming factors), The Cortana/Gravemind moments just ruin the flow of the game, and most all Chief was the most boring in Halo 3, this was the biggest blow to Halo 3

AND add all the stuff from the link, Halo 3 is easily forgettable

Yes, I have to admit that the backtracking in Crow’s Nest was a big pain. I really despised it. The action sequences were alright, but there were some memorable moments in them, too. Such as when the Scarab dropped down in The Ark, and the ability to board it using vehicles and portable gravity lifts. That was also very memorable. I personally didn’t mind the Arbiter missions in Halo 2, but TBH, I really didn’t care that much when it was missing from Halo 3. I personally just found Halo 3 more memorable (sorry for overusing that word) than Halo 4’s campaign because of the atmosphere of most levels, such as the jungles of Sierra 117 to the Flood infested buildings of Floodgate.
