First, I want to say sorry in advance if this is no longer applicable. Nothing here suggests otherwise even though the thread is a little old, and your twitter seemed to suggest the same. I figured that I may as well throw this in; The worst that can happen is I end up being wrong and this is closed, in which case sorry but no harm done.
Now, on to the meat. I realise this is going to be a hard sell but that still gives better chances that not trying here at all. I am a 17 year old British son of a lower class family. My gamer tag is benteddy (My kid self did not have the best taste in names; The long overdue name change is coming soon, heh). I have no competitive halo experience and despite having known the competitive scene existed I never tried to get into it until recently. Then I saw the Pax Prime showdown unfold and I was hooked. At that moment I decided that this was one of the most amazing things I’d seen in my life. I was planning on getting started by throwing a team together to play at Insomnia 56 should it announce a Halo Tournament as one of its events (which it has done consistently before and thus I believe is highly likely) however if this is still relevant then it’s an amazing and unmatched opportunity.
I may not have done anything in the competitive scene, but for what little its worth I was raised on Halo. I picked the first game up when I was about six and the series has remained as being my favourite game of all time, though as I grew the reasons for this changed. While originally I cared for the game to rack up kills and perform awesome but impractical maneuvers, as I grew older I came to appreciate the game more for its emphasis on teamwork and map control; Knowing where everyone is because you and your team are relaying back and forth, knowing all the weapon spawns, making sure you have control of the best locations on the map, keeping eyes on all the exists to a particularly nasty spawn the enemy team has been forced into- There is something about that which just feels so perfect; There is no describing how you feel when everything is working out.
But I hit a major problem; few on Xbox Live care to play it like this. Most are far too wrapped up in the killing or trash talking the guy on the other end to care about callouts- If they even bother to use a mic at all. The majority of my friends are like this as well, far more eager to jump in and start spraying and praying or to quit out and go to other games when we hit a proper challenge. Any time I put in to learning weapon spawns, callouts and such is completely wasted in this case because half the time nobody even cares.
Well you know what? Sod those guys.
I’m going to go to the competitive scene where people appreciate the callouts you give, where you can expect your back to be covered if you ask a guy to back you up, where you can expect your team to work with you to cap those objectives rather than trying to look good by getting the most kills. While those guys are trash talking each other, I’ll be playing the game how its meant to be played, fighting tooth and nail with my teammates to come out on top- And making a pretty packet when we win. Whether I make it or crash and burn, I’ll be giving it my best shot.
I would say that I am quick to learn and slow to forget, though I do have a slight tendency of falling into old habits. I have good BR (though it can get a little shaky under pressure) and am fairly good with nades. I am not the best sniper but I do well with the sword and am on point with my call outs once I’ve gotten the maps down. I may lack the experience of longer term players, but I don’t lack the knowledge or the skills needed to build up ones abilities. Above all, I have the determination that every esports player needs in order to make it
As I said, this is a hard sell; I’ve no previous competitive experience , I’m not amongst the best player you’ll see or anything like that (but I’m no slouch and I do learn quickly, I am certainly good at the game.) and I’m not even based in North America (which I noticed invalidates me from the HCS, though I’m assuming the actual world championship will not have that restriction. It wouldn’t really be a world championship if it only covered North America.) But I have total love of the game, a will to learn (and can do so quickly and effectively) and I have a determination to succeed that’s driven by my need to prove to everyone around me who has doubted me that I can and will play Halo professionally, no matter how many hurdles the world puts in the way. If you give me this chance, I will do everything humanly possible to ensure I don’t let you down.
