Are there any plans for private groups on Waypoint in the future? It was a great way to discuss topics both Halo related and off topic, as well as meet people to play with and find help to get better or to help other get better on B.net and was easily one of my favorite parts of that forum. It’d be nice if the same could happen here.
I doubt it, Bungie coded their website from scratch to support such stuff, this website is built on pre-built software, although it is fully editable, it would be too much work.
That’s seems like an incredibly huge oversight. I would think 343 would have viewed the popularity of private groups as something they’d want to keep around. And why would it be “too much work” for a company like Microsoft? It’s not like they don’t have the resources…
Since you mention the forum software was pre-built, why did 343 chose this particular software? It seems to have had a massive amount of problems thus far. Why didn’t they go with something more proven?
I loved private groups on Bungie.net too. In fact, they’re the only part of the site that I still visit regularly.
Unfortunately, this site seems to have so many bugs and problems that trying to implement Private Groups at this time would probably go horribly wrong. It’s definitely something I’d like to see done in the future. I’ve made plenty of friends here and I’d love to have a place to discuss things not necessarily appropriate for the mains. The only place I have now to do that is Twitter and the 140 character limit is horribly annoying.
It may happen one day…they seem to add to the site regularly and even Halo 4 will have improved support to create, organize and track groups… I certainly wouldn’t hold my breathe but you can never say never.
This website will probably be just as good/better than Bungie’s by the time Halo 5 arrives. There’ll most likely be a load of new features, better UI and possibly even private groups. Who knows? Not even 343i know.

I wouldn’t say it’s a 100% oversight, not every one likes private groups.
Tho I think if they did do some kind of private groups, they’d want to make it so the private group has some ties in game, and on all parts of waypoint, not just the forums.
Also, if I had to pick between private groups, and a full blown working site, I’d pick the working site over private groups right now, I say wait until the site can handle a lot of stress and people before we start talking private groups.
bungie wanted to create there own community, 343i only want a halo community and groups aren’t a part of it since they can be related to anything.

Very true. 343i was formed for Halo and will only make Halo. And their site is for discussing Halo, only. I don’t see why people want an off-topic forum if this is a Halo website.
I would love a Clan system for Halo 4, with of course clan battles. A Ranked Clan battle system with a strict no cheating detector ban system.
Halo based private groups=Clans. Give us clan support, everyone’s happy. It’s not rocket science.
