3D printing is becoming a bigger deal since technology has made the printers smaller and more affordable for the average person. In this link, you can read about it a little bit and see that someone printed out an ODST model, and that gave me an idea.
You know how whatever changes you make to your Spartan model in Halo show up in a Spartan model on the side of your stats overview page here? What if 343 were able to take that Spartan model file and turn it into a file that 3D printers could understand so that you could physically print out your Spartan? You could change your armor, colors, poses and even weapons so that if you had a 3D printer you could easily make multiple character models. This would be freaking awesome and could be a huge selling point for Halo 5, as no videogame company has done this before (it would show that 343 is innovative). If the Halo 5 Spartan model file is essentially the same as the Spartan files from previous games, then 343 might even be able to make it backwards compatible so that you could print your Halo 4, Reach or 3 Spartans (or Elites).
Anyway, I just thought this was a really cool idea and thought I would throw it out there for discussion.
Edit: And now that I think about it, they could make it to where you could print any character model in the game, which would be sweet too. That might kill toy makers though, like McFarlane, so maybe they should just stick with printing individual Spartans.
It would never happen. Not unless Microsoft decided to market their own 3D printer using Halo as a selling point (which would be odd to say the least). They make money off all the different Halo models or action figures or whatever the kids call them these days. They’re not going to give that up.
They’re not currently make your personal Spartan though. If they limited it to Spartans only (not Elites, Hunters, Grunts, etc), then that wouldn’t take a huge hit out of toy sales. Toy companies would still make different Spartan toys, which would be higher quality than what you could make at home, and people would still buy them since it’s not like everyone would have a 3D printer to begin with where they would be able to make their own stuff.
I think saying that people shouldn’t be able to print out their own Spartan because then they wouldn’t buy them from the stores is like saying that people shouldn’t be able to make their own custom maps because then that would stop people from buying new maps when 343 came out with them. I just don’t see how it would hurt anyone’s business.
I guess a separate option would be for Microsoft to set up a department that could print your Spartan for you and you could buy it from them. Microsoft would just have to decide if the investment is worth it. Depending on how many people they think would want to do this, it might just be a better investment to let people do it themselves than to set up a whole department for the few who would want it.

If Microsoft offered 3d statues of “Your” spartan it could be a good money making idea.

Yeah, it would definitely be cool to have a little figure of your character. Like for me, I don’t buy any of the Halo toys, but if they had an option to order your own Spartan then I would consider it. I really think Microsoft/343 should look into this and do it for Halo before another company does it for their own game, because someone will do it eventually.

I could imagine people getting sued for 3-D printing Spartans and Microsoft saying “you have to pay for that”
Seems cool, but I can’t even imagine what that would do to toy manufacturers like McFarlane. It would be convenient but probably kill off or seriously injure that industry.
I never understood why mcfarlane never offered to make your custom in game spartan for like 50$ or something.
