Pretty rough learning curve

After playing for 3 hours last night I found that Halo 5 has a pretty rough learning curve with all the abilities and sprinting preventing you from regenerating your shields.
It took me until the end of the night to feel good about where my abilities were but there was one thought I had when I went to bed.

This feels like Halo.

I jumped straight into multiplayer and didn’t worry about the campaign for now and I was immediately frustrated. I didn’t know how to use my abilities well, I would basically run in and die. This was on both Warzone and Arena. My group felt the same way so we decided to stick with Warzone because it hurt less, and after playing a few more games I felt better about my shooting ability. We then switched back to Arena and still got wrecked in a game where the other team held the sniper the whole game and had really good snipers. After that I started recognizing the maps, knowing where to run and learned how to use my abilities to get where I needed to go. My KD took a noticeable turn for the better and I was playing Halo again.

I did not enjoy the first few games that I played in multiplayer, but I kept playing and it felt like Halo again. Now I can’t wait to get off work and play some more.

The learning curve was rough so don’t judge your multiplayer experience on only a few games.

Great post, I definitely agree. I’ve been pretty competent in every release of halo, but there’s something refreshing to this release and a bit of a wake up call to my past tactics. The core is there, but the changes made take some getting used to. I’d say the one thing that is really making it difficult is how the controls feel. I’m sticking to recon (always do) but had so much trouble in my first 3 matches. After that I was getting into my groove. I believe I always had top score even when I was having frustrations, but we ended up losing 3 out of 7 games! I’m loving the utility of the pistol, and I’m so happy that every weapon seems to hold up well. I don’t feel bad when I get a lightrifle, carbine (amazing feel with that pew pew gun) or storm rifle because I can wreck with each. Oh also, props to 343 for throwing commendations back in.

So far, the learning curve is with the grenades. They bounce way to much. Physics don’t seem 100% accurate. Pretty sure they shouldn’t bounce like a basketball.

On the live event last night, Strongside (former pro player) from 343 said it took him a couple of weeks of playing the game day in, day out to get the hang of it.

Lots to learn.

Games like this often use SP as a training ground for MP. Usually playing the first level of SP will get you ready for MP.

I keep betraying teammate with the new weapons by mistake…

I love the initial post! I only played for about 20 minutes before I lost connection but it was clear to me that the challenges I was facing were mine and not problems with the game. I couldn’t try campaign, which is always a great way to gain familiarity, because I committed to do co-op with my sons the first time through. Look forward to playing with the greatest community of players there is!

Man. This really hits it on top of the head lol. I went in super confident. I joined a friend who had played some matches already and was past the curve. I was frustrated and unhappy with my performance. It did get better tho. I’m good now lol.

Learning how a Scorpion can but shouldn’t be able to blow you off it’s front while waiting a LONG time to finally plant a 'nade after boarding… Oh ya, that was very aggravating

I Say I was able to grasp the basics of Halo 5 rather quickly, but I can tell that there is more for me to learn, such as moving and flowing through the maps efficiently.

OP that is exactly how I felt, my first few games of Warzone I was frustrated because I couldn’t get the timing of everything down. But the more I kept playing, it became more natural of a feeling and everything started to feel more Halo again, instead of the foreign feeling I had been experiencing.

I personally found that switching to Bumper Jumper helps at least with how I liked to play in previous Halos because the zoom/smart link on the right stick feels better and quicker than the left trigger pull. Also the fact that you have to hit the “A” button to spring is really helpful because it keeps you from just running to your doom most of the time.

I like all the new abilities it adds a new level of complexity, which is fun

This has been what I’ve been doing when I’m driving a Scorpion haha. As soon as I see someone running up on me and about to board my Scorpion it immediately turns into one of those, “adios nerd” moments and I send their Spartan sky high haha.

Always board from the back

No kidding! I decided to jump in and give multiplayer a shot after completing the first two story missions which was a huge mistake. My 0.07 KD will need some work. :stuck_out_tongue:
