Preparing For Infinite

Hello all! I would like to know what everyone is doing to prepare for Infinite after the Technical Preview. Currently I am playing Halo 5 and practically only using the pistol (sorry teammates). I am not using the boost and getting use to shooting when sprint sliding.

Crying and laying in the fetal position until it comes back.

I’ve been playing Halo 5. Never got too into it back in the day and I’m loving the competitive modes now. Have manage to crack Diamond in everything so I’m just grinding them, almost got Onyx in Team Slayer, but I’m pretty sure that and SWAT are the only ones I’ll be capable of getting it in.

Got a baby due this month so the real answer is I will barely be playing  But when I do it will either be Halo 3 BTB to relax or H5 competitive to get ready for Infinite competitive. I really want to grind HI and aim for Onyx in it in at least a few playlists. The flight was so damn fun, I hope we get a PVP one soon!

I’d say H5 is the closest game to Infinite so I’m playing that. And when I get bored I’m play Splitgate.

After getting destroyed in PvP I can’t afford to be like that lol.

Congrats! Halo 5 is so sweaty in socials too lol

Cheers bro! It is haha, I’m hoping Infinite won’t be like that. All my warm up games are against Onyx players in quickplay!

I was getting destroyed and then I was like “I’m not missing too many shots and dying from across the map spawning with perfect shots”. Halo 5’s socials are exactly the problem with Halo currently.

Yeah I don’t find Halo 5 social even remotely enjoyable. It’s the stress of ranked without any of the perks of seeing yourself rank up.

Exactly. Going back to Halo 5 after Infinite actually really makes me dislike 5. Anyone who compares the two games and call them alike are crazy. Of course they have elements like the sprint slide jump and stronger pistol however after that the two are drastically different. The enemy is always in your face and you have no time to strategize or even reset.

I really like 5 as a competitive game, but hate it as a casual game. Infinite feels like a good blend of 3 and 5 so hopefully it’s great in both aspects. I find H5 really hard to play against the top players, their movement is so difficult to deal with for me especially with their scuff controllers.

Trueskill2 does scare me a bit. I don’t want to be punished for playing a lot of competitive by taking away my option to feel relaxed in social playlists.

I am worried about that system too. I hate when I try to play with my GF and they are try hard matches in general. They really need to incentivize ranked play for the sweats.

I’m a very new fan in the Halo series (2017) and an even newer player (2019), and due to the rather limited time I was able to invest during 2019 through 2020. Its only now that I have time to really invest into the game. Since I’m a PC player I don’t have the option to play Halo 5, so I play Halo 4 instead since it at least has sprint. I have not had very much time on a whole (I have invested a total of about 105 hours over the last 2 years, 50 of those hours were in this summer) and Halo was actually the first FPS that I ever really got into. . . . . the result . . . . I’m pretty bad. In MCC on Mouse and Keyboard I get a grand total of about on average 7 kills per match. Halo Infinite releases in the next few months so I have very little time to catch up. I don’t expect to become a great player, but I wish to be someone who at least can reliably get 1.5 times the kills that I have deaths. As a person who never played FPS games until about 2 years ago I am critically behind. I’m not quite sure where to go from where I am, so I’m open to suggestions, since this IS a thread on preparing for Infinite.

I would just really focus on aim on PC. Hell I would probably even suggest Valorant for that. Mouse and Keyboard is significantly better with Halo Infinite and it is drastically more smooth.

I swapped my buttons around to something similar to what I had in the tech demo, now I’m just playing Reach’s Campaign a bunch and going over a few Halo audiobooks.

Managed to hit Onyx in Slayer, am just going to play Team Arena now as I’ve always struggled with Objective and want to hone my skills before the game drops. Would be good to not be useless at Strongholds if it returns in HI.

Might play some more MCC although the competitive isn’t as satisfying to play so I’ll mostly just do challenges to rank up and chill in Big Team.

Really hoping Team Skirmish is in Halo Infinite. I never was a fan of it when I was younger however I find it much better these days. I stopped playing Halo 5. I want to get used to the 100 FOV. Halo 5 was just irritating because the flow of the maps are way too fast and doesn’t represent Infinite’s play style even though the strong pistol and sprint/slide exist.

Weirdly enough I’ve found my pistol is better in H5 after a weekend of playing Halo Infinite. It is very fast paced though. I’ve found if my positioning is even slightly off I get heavily punished for it. What games are you warming up on then at 100 FOV?

I was exactly the same, didn’t really like skirmish or learn to really absorb everything about it like with slayer. Now I’m older I’d say 5 flag is my favourite gametype. Hope the playlist is fun in HI. I put in another topic but skirmish should be 5 Vs 5 again

I already want the game to be complete :frowning:

MCC has a FOV slider so I’ve been playing that. I feel like the strategy of rotations and choke points will be more representative of Infinite too. Halo 5 just was too sweaty and fast. Using the Halo 2/3 pistol with AR starts (pain) require more landed shots so I’ve been doing that as well. The pistol with Halo 5 shoots much slower too.
