Prediction on forge coloring.

By now, most of us have seen the 3 new forge videos that were released today and yesterday. A popular topic of discussion among them is the forge pieces, which are now mostly a mix of black and white rather than shades of grey like in reach. While this aesthetic choice is a bit more unique than that of halo reach, an dynamic lighting helps to even further make maps look better, its still not a very interesting pallet design in the long run.

Howver, as you can see here, all blocks will still possess the color options that were in reach. In reach, the color effected small lights that were scattered amongst them, which for the most part were barely visible. However, So far most forge pieces shown have no lights on them whatsoever. So what could the Color options change?

My theory relies on the blocks themselves. So far, all blocks have a substantial amount of white to them. What if this white was just the default color? Which could be changed out via the color/team options? This would make a lot of sense, seeing as all of the blocks have a much lower polygon count as before, as well as far less lights, so they can afford the bandwidth to color each block now. If this is how color editing is, then we could possibly see editing close to going from this to this(Obviously more subtle, but you get the point). If this is the case, then just imagine how much customization now becomes open to forgers such as myself. not to mention benefits for both the map-makers and the forge artists.

I lol’d.

Have we only seen the UNSC Pallete? Are there more? I got the impression each forge map had it’s own unique pallete.

Ravine’s pallet is forerunner. Impact’s is UNSC. I Don’t know what erosion’s pallet is, but I think its UNSC.

Actually, the colors work pretty much exactly how Reach’s worked. I’ll find a link to a picture and get back to you, but it’s a HUGE let-down from 343i’s part on forging.

Ah, I see. This is just barely more obvious than in reach, and thats only becuase of the background color :/. It could al least effect a larger part of the blocks than the outlines.

Thanks for sharing this anyways. I’m surprised I missed it the first time.

3 forge vids? I’ve only seen two O_o… For some reason I only see yesterdays posts and not todays. could you post a link to the new vid please?! It would be much apreciated! I’ve already see Forge maps vid, and Forge mode details and had a Halogasim from those… I’m ready for another one! haha :stuck_out_tongue:

but for your point, it is an interesting thought since I didn’t see any lights either. Speaking of lights, I wonder how many colored lights we are able to put down now?

There ya go.

What I’m really banking on is more control with lights, and hopefully using more of them on one map. If you notice in 343’s maps, variety and good aesthetic isn’t really achieved by changing the color of the pieces but by varying the color of light used around the map.

I imagine they would have featured this in their forge previews if this was a big focus, but I hope for a more expansive light system anyway.

Awesome, thanks man
… dayumn… i need some more tissues O_o

The only reason that reach was limited to 2 lights was becuase of the high polygon counts and numerous lights on blocks. Since both of these are fixed in halo 4, we will most likely see 4-6 lights in a single map now, rather than 2.
