Plasma Rifle and Storm Rifle: The Pulse Carbine fills its role, and with what footage we have seen so far, Elites mainly carry it. In a way, it’s a replacement for the Storm Rifle which replaced the Plasma Rifle. I doubt there’s a Brute Plasma Rifle either.
Carbine: It seems like the Stalker Rifle, a weapon revealed to be carried by Jackal Snipers, has a role like the Carbine? Hard to tell, it could be a sniper weapon instead, but for now I think the Carbine is gone.
In Halo 5, some weapon skins were “universal” to a set of weapons. These weapons include the Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, SMG, DMR, and Magnum. If the Infinite Monster Energy skins are considered “universal”, then the only non-power weapons (UNSC) are the Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle, Commando Rifle, and Sidekick. In other words, the only way the SMG and DMR are usable in Infinite is if they are now power weapons. Of course, there’s always the possibility of there being a second wave of skins.
Pilum: Unlikely from the moment it was introduced in Halo 5’s beta. Especially since the other Rocket Launcher is confirmed.
All Promethean based weapons: I doubt the Prometheans are going to be in Infinite at all. Some Forerunner weapons will be in, but there’s no indication of Prometheans, unless it’s meant to be a secret plot twist.

> SMG and DMR: The Commando Rifle kind of takes its role. In the reveal of weapon skins, specifically Monster Energy, the SMG is notably absent from the skin lineup. https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/08/31/xbox-monster-energy-promotion/In Halo 5, some weapon skins were “universal” to a set of weapons. I agree 100%, but let’s not discount these weapons completely. With Halo Infinite being a live-service game with a 10 year plan, we’re likley to get more add-ons and dlc and expansions than all the Halo games combined. Some of these like the Carbine and DMR are unlikely to return though, they’ve been functionally replaced and adding them wouldn’t do much for gameplay besides make it confusing and over saturated.

Certainly there’s a good chance some weapons will return via expansions. Though them not being in the launch game may be controversial. I think a lot of fans are underestimating the amount of new weapons that are replacing old roles.
I’m sure the SMG is going to be there, with Prometheans weapons. The created didn’t go poof and with this still being the Reclaimer saga as well Cortana voice in Infinite’s trailer the Prometheans will be there, probably like how the flood was introduced in CE.
Hopefully we get to see the Sticky Detonator once more, I mean if you look at it this way if I’m not mistaking all weapons in halo have appeared in at least 2 games except the Sticky Detonator, I consider it a really interesting weapon
Now that I think of it, probably the Needler Rifle also needs to come back, I also think it was only released in Halo Reach (Correct me if I’m wrong)
I think it depends on what you’re playing:
Campaign (if not involving the prometheans) will not have promethean weapons, but if they have a warzone type game then they may be included in there along with some of the older weapons such as the plasma riffle and maybe the grenade launcher which are probably not in campaign.
I think it might be a case that they just patch them into the game later down the line. Even if it’s only for forge and any multiplayer maps/modes that use forge maps because every weapon has its fans and uses.

The needler rifle was in halo 5, it was a power weapon (version of the carbine) but did the same thing. It’s called the blood of Suban.
I’m not saying they’ll all be in campaign or ranked multiplayer, but I think at least the base model of every gun will be available for customs/forge. Granted this is mostly baseless speculation but they chose the title “Infinite” for a reason, and I think it’s because they’re going to pack in as much from the series as as a whole that they can.
How does the commando take the role of the dmr or SMG? It’s just a slower shooting AR, with probably less range than a br but more than the AR. If anything, the SAW is more of a SMG replacement.

SAW is a power weapon, SMG is not, as redundant as they can be. You’re likely right on the DMR though. Thinking back again, the Commando rifle doesn’t really fill a long range role.

Saw is essentially just a buffed SMG. Higher dps and just a little higher range. Otherwise, pretty much the same. It honestly doesnt even need to exist really.
Carbine has been confirmed by IGN to have been removed (from the same article that reported the removal of the magnum and shotgun).
I think you are correct about the storm rifle and plasma rifle. That being said, I do not think the pulse carbine fills their role. We might get a new weapon to fill the automatic plasma weapon role.
I am still holding out some hope for the SMG and DMR. Just because there were no Monster skins (that we know of) does not mean their entire removal. They appeared in Mega Construx sets. I know those might not be 100% accurate since the shotgun appeared in the sets as well, but I still think they have a chance of returning.
I also do not see how the commando fills their role (commando seems like a precision-automatic hybrid) BUT I can see how the existence of the BR and AR make their roles redundant.
Pilum is definitely gone, but I have said before that it would be cool to have some of the req gimmicks from Halo 5 implemented as their own weapons in Infinite and I would not mind seeing its return if they take the tracking mechanic from the Ad Victorium and put it in the base Pilum or a new weapon.
As for the Promethean weapons, I say goodbye and good riddance. I think they are pretty uninspired weapons that server no purpose in the sandbox. I want weird, abstract stuff for my forerunner weapons and toy leaks seem to suggest that might be what we get.
