Predicting Halo 5's Metacritic score

Halo has usually had some pretty great scores on Metacritic, with the lowest being an 87 for a major Halo game (Halo 4). But with all of this hype surrounding Halo 5, as well as all of the improvements shown, I honestly think it’ll be at least a 90.

What do you think?

  1. About on par with Reach.

I’m thinking at least 90-93. Hopefully higher. IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey, being the fanboy he is, will definitely give Guardians a 9.8 or something.

I don’t care if its a 99.999999, if I hate it I hate it. Even if it is a -100,000,000,000 if I think its good I’ll play the ever loving yoink out of it.

Ugh. I remember him giving Halo 4 that 9.8. “The question isnt if Halo 4 is a good Halo game. But is it the best? The answer is yes.”

So undeserved. An 8-8.8? Sure, but nowhere near perfect.

yea I really don’t care how they score it if Halo 4 got a 98 and Halo 5 gets less would be ridculous but oh well.

Mmm…I’d say about 90 as well

I read this as “Protecting Halo 5’s Metacritic Score”. Seemed true enough to me. I remember checking H4’s and it was ridiculous. 30% butthurt people rating 0 for whatever reason (no matter how badly it may have disappointed you, objectively, it is still pretty good), 25% people rating 100 to counteract the butthurt people.
Then again, the critic’s one is the one that matters. Between 85-95 is my guess, and yes, I know it’s pretty wide. I don’t think we know enough yet to accurately judge.

That is a good point. I love Halo 4, but a 9.8? Especially considering the fan reception of the game, now that’s the new bar (especially since it has the lowest metascore of what, 87/7.0?). The Halo 5 beta alone was better than Halo 4 (again, big Halo 4 fan here, but I’m realistic about it) so now every Halo game that’s better than Halo 4 has to be at least a 9.8 by IGN.

I would say between 8.5 & 9.0

Above 8 one IGN and Gamespot. Those people over there got a bias for triple A games. Seeing that Evolve got a 9. Not saying the game is bad, I believe it will stand on its merits unlike Evolve or any Call a Of a Duty game but seriously? It’s gonna get fluffed a bit. And whatever the score I’m buying it day one and playing the hell outta it.

88-92 for critics and a 78-82 for fans

I believe it will be in the 90s for sure. we just need to hope that all the butthurt people don’t give it a rating of 0 and drag it down when its not needed to be .

I’m assuming 93. That’s an A- in my old high school grading system.

I remember Halo 4 initially had a score of about 91, and 343 commented that they were happy with the score, and they’d consider below 90 a failure for a triple A franchise like Halo. And then it dropped below 90…

Not sure why, considering I adore Halo 4. I was genuinely surprised when I heard people didn’t like it, so I have absolutely no idea what people’ll think of Guardians.

This. Because I love Halo 4, and I play that more than any of the other Halos.

75-85 metascore for me.

75-89 seems about right to me. The sad thing is I think the campaign is going to be the best one yet, but it will probably take a ratings hit simply for being a high-numbered sequel and people not giving the new gameplay mechanics and story elements a chance due to the nostalgia-goggles that now come with the older games.

Perfect 10/10 Halo can do no harm. Blind fanboyism is great folks, you should try it out! I’ve got some pamphlets here if you’d like to hear the good word…

I’m not fond of Metacritic. I find it often take into account sources that it shouldn’t. I was reading one review (I think it was for Guardians of the galaxy) and I honestly don’t think this guy (a professional critic mind you) had even seen the movie. Some of the comments were just so ignorant of basic things that happen or were explained in the movie. so after that I take Meteoritic scores with a pinch of salt.

and hey, as someone else said, If I like it I will play it regardless of what it scores. but to answer the original question… 90-95.
