Predict The Future Of Multiplayer

Putting aside what you want to happen, what do you think 343 will do with Halo 5’s Multiplayer?

Do you think they will make any effort to bringing back traditional gameplay?
Also, to what degree, and what ways can you see them doing that?
Or perhaps you think it is more likely that they’ll continue down the path they started with Halo 4?

Be specific about the kinds of things you think they are likely to add, change or take away.
It could be interesting to see how accurate the predictions turn out to be.

I think/hope it goes back to closer of a arena type shooter feel, but not completely. Balance sandbox better, no personal ordinance and loadouts can stay, large, LARGE maps for more vehicle combat is a big one, I’m talking HUGE maps.

Also, the population to vastly increase.

343 will no doubt have a greater focus on traditional gameplay. But they surely won’t trash the Infinity modes. That said, I don’t think there will be two separate multiplayer modes: Classic and Infinity. I think The Infinity modes will be reduced to a few playlists, while the traditional gameplay will be the main focus.

343 will definitely have in-game CSR and Ranked/Social playlists, two commonly asked for features.

I think sprint is here to stay, across all modes. I don’t want a sprint debate; that’s just how I feel. Equipment will make a return, and so will armor abilities, but as map pickups. I doubt customizable loadouts will make a return, but if they do, they will be restricted to primary and secondary weapon selection (minus the plasma pistol and boltshot of course).

As for any new features, your guess is as good as mine.

I certainly hope they do all this.

I don’t think it will play exactly like this halo or the previous. They will most likely keep some of the things like sprint and loadouts, but restrict some elements like PODs to custom games or some gametypes. AAs might be combined or use a crysis-like ability system. The ranking system will be more like the ones in LoL , Blops2 , and sc2 , since 343 hired Josh Menke .

ZOMBIE DRAGONS!

Seeing as its going to be the first xbox one halo game i will assume that it will use all of its features. they already said it will be cloud powered so i expect higher player counts with much bigger spaces in single and multiplayer. also it may use some kinect functions. at 60fps its going to look amazing. they have already said they have heard our cries and complaints so i assume most of the stuff like ordinances and personal ordinance will go. loadouts may go as well to. 1-50 might come. overall i think this time they’re going to try to create a more competitive halo. and im hoping that they will bring back elites as playable characters. im mean practically everyone wants them back.

I think we’ll see five major changes in the new MP.

  1. Loadouts will be much more balanced. OP weapons, AAs and perks will be removed and probably the grenade option entirely. I also don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that perks will be removed… Hopefully.
  2. There will be at least one “Legendary” playlist at launch. 343i seems to have acknowledged the fact a lot of Halo’s core fans (the ones who actually play the game a year after release) are fans of traditional gameplay, and not giving them at least one playlist at launch will turn them away forever.
  3. Weapons will have a much bigger presence on the maps. I think we’re in for some sort of combination between Ordnance and weapons-on-the-map and in any case, I doubt they will be as random as they are in 4. I think an element of map control will return to the game, but I’m not sure how far 343i is willing to go with this.
  4. Vehicles will be fixed. No more Plasma Pistol in Loadouts, no more Plasma Grenades in Loadouts. Vehicles will stop being suicide bombing machines and begin to be actually powerful (as they were in the original trilogy games).
  5. Gametypes will return. This was Halo 4 MP’s biggest issue IMO. They cut more than half of the gametype offerings in Reach (Race, Assault, Headhunter, Stockpile, Invasion, Territories, Juggernaut…) and completely shifted out asymmetric gameplay (1 Flag CTF, 1 Bomb…) as well as removing a lot of Custom Game options (mainly in Flood, which used to be the most common mode for Forge). I think it’s safe to assume this will not be the case in Halo 5.

Aside from that, I hope Vertigo shows that 343i are considering interactable maps (but we thought that the Anniversary map pack in Reach implied that 343i want to make a more traditional Halo game, so who knows).

That’s my guess. My hopes are that Legendary will have an equal place as Infinity in terms of the sheer number of playlists. I hope to see some form of in-game CSR (even if only your own CSR is visible) and I hope for the removal of many AAs from Loadouts in favor of being placed on the map (but I doubt that will happen).

ETA: Sprint will most definitely return, for better or for worse.

All I know is that they have to do something amazing to bring gamers back to Halo.

This. They are a melting pot of devs with great backgrounds in the industry, some with decades of practice. They began working on this game with more than a full team (they began working on 4 with around 10 people IIRC). They have received a boatload of feedback from Halo 4 and they clearly know they did something wrong (the population numbers are all the proof they need). 343i would have to be a pretty incompetent developer to screw up again, and I don’t think they are.

I do not envy their task at all.

Quite honest, as long as the game is built up off the original trilogy’s game play and I have the option to play my preferred style of Halo from the get go I’ll be happy.

Let’s be real the old multiplayer is gone and in with this new one i don’t think they will drop this multiplayer but still continue work on it in Halo (xbox one ) not calling it halo5 until it is official hehe.

Agreed 343 has a very big job and not an easy one

Halo over the last few games
( Reach & Halo 4 )
Has changed a ton and Halo has many different types of players / that all want kind of different but similar things .

Good luck 343

All I can do is hope for the best .

Great post overall

I believe 343 saw the flaws with Halo 4 and are willing to work with WHAT WORKED and toss what didn’t.

What I want to happen: Return multiplayer back to how it was in Halo 2 and 3, or at least make it a arena style multiplayer again.

What I think will happen: 343i will out some of the problems from Halo 4 but continue down the path of Reach and Halo 4.

It will find true love on flag day.

All bad references aside, I think there’s going to be an inevitable amount of depreciation with whatever 343 makes next unless its so radically different that it can override our long years of matchmaking grinding (and the series can once again enter a period of positive growth from new fans.) At best that slow decline will normalize out to leave us a fun and still worthwhile Halo that will be less and less able pull in the same fraction of the XBL audience as the older Halo’s did (until at some point MS pulls the plug and shifts focus to another IP), but I think that’s still an off chance because it requires some particularly insightful gameplay changes on the part of 343.

The greatest likelihood I would say is that 343 will buckle down and shoot for a more consistent Halo experience (where multiplayer is concerned, for you see the internet demands classic!) and along with that we’ll continue see the slow die off of those all important “core fans” (see. entropy) who are the only ones who can appreciate consistency in a shooter as old as this one. That will at some point soon leave 343 with absolutely nothing, unless the ghosts of dead ambition can pick up a controller and make up for the lack of vital growth.

> ZOMBIE DRAGONS!

I imagine this will turn out to be the most accurate prediction.

I pretty much see them doing what ran and shai and halojunky have said. I can’t see sprint going, and I imagine most of their efforts will be in toning down the most controversial features.

Does anyone remember a post on neogaf, where someone basically said that 343 went a little over the top with changing Halo, and Frankie (stinkles) replied with something along the lines of “I think you’re right”?

It wouldn’t be true Halo without this feature.

They’ll have Traditional and Infinity options
