It is mentioned that the Precursors decided erase the Forerunners from existence. However, they only give a vague answer as to why. What do you guys think and do you think it may be answered in Halo 4?
It is rather clear from forerunner actions that they aren’t fit to police the galaxy since they are power crazy and extreme hypocrites. The forerunners are far more trouble than what they are worth and the precursors saw that.
You are right about that as they did force humanity into a technological regression come to think of it…
However, we see humanity falling into the exact same mannerisms of the Forerunners. Makes me think this is a projection of the Precursors themselves as humanity’s and the Forerunners creators.
Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
They didn’t kill the species off… Or made them slaves. Regression means they have to start again.

^ This. I always thought Forerunners were the nice guys. Trying to always do good for everyone in the galaxy. and now that I’ve read the books, 90% of them from the sounds of it were Yoinks! so, I’m kinda glad (sounds mean) that they’re now almost extinct. I would kinda feel bad about saying that, but then I remember the Forerunners made us cavemen and not allowing us to explain we were trying to save everyone’s butts. they deserve to lose the Forerunner-Flood War. they deserve have fired the Halos and have most of their species destroyed. the only Forerunner I like/care about is the Librarian (then again, doesn’t everyone?).

Humans were and are still just as bad as the Forerunners.

After the War with the Flood Humans had lost many worlds, so they started to be risky and take planets in Forerunner space forcefully. This is what led to the Forerunner/Human War and is why we were de-evolved, it was our fate. They kept us around because they knew that if we had defeated the Flood once we could do so again.
The Forerunners wanted what every other sentient species wants, to be free. This is why they fought against the Precursors who wanted to exterminate them.

But the Forerunners squandered their gifts and ruled with force, stagnating the growth of other races as they “protected” them. Much like what the Europeans did with their colonies.
ladies, ladies, calm down u r all pretty. what really happens u will find out in halo 4, because like the flood, the precursors r a subenemy rather than a main enemy, while the main enemy is the forerunners and their dreaded prometheans.

Erm… what…?
-
Calm down? I see no negativity.

While I like to think myself as a girl, I am pretty sure I’m male. One sec… Yes. I am male.

The Flood weren’t a sub-enemy. They were a full enemy class. They were a HUGE influence on the story. Actually, their existence put EVERYTHING in motion. The Forerunner-Human war, humanity being de-evolved, the creation and firing of the Halo Array, the Covenant/Flood occupation of Earth.
-
Where is it confirmed the Precursors are a sub-enemy? Can I have a link, please?
-
I doubt the Forerunners are the enemy. Certainly not the Didact. The Forerunners we see are AI. Robots. They aren’t evil or anything. Think of them as an automated turret. They’ll fire on anything in their proximity, regardless if they are ‘good’ or ‘evil.’
history bro, who do u fight the least in the first halo trilogy, only 4 missions? Also, the flood doesn’t start getting important to the storyline until mid-halo 2.
Don’t use halo wikia please, use halopedian.
They de-evolved us yeah, they granted more than usual
Privileges to the San’shyuum, but deevolving can be seen as, starting over from their transgressions.
And the master builder is power hungry.

Wouldn’t you want to destroy your creation if it turned against you?

The Forerunners state that their reason for turning against the Precursors was because they were about to erase the Forerunners. So according to the Forerunner (which is obviously biased, but the only side we hear) the Precursors acted first. I had a thought that the Forerunners witnessed the Precursors erase another species at one point, and in turn made a pre-emptive strike to eliminate any potential future threat to themselves.

Except it appears that the Precursors decided to erase the Forerunners first. It would seem this was a common thing for the Precursors, so forgive me if I think their constant erasure method sucks. Forerunners and humans have the same problems, so this isn’t the first time they’ve made races with flaws.
And you are still killing billions of sentient lifeforms that think, feel, rationalize and so on. They aren’t just some engine that can be scrapped.

You’re just fundamentally wrong. Yes, the Flood come later on in the story, but they became the bigger threat. You’d fight Covenant too, but only if the Flood didn’t get them first. And really, they were very important to the storyline as they presented a terrible threat to the galaxy if they got off the Installation 04.

Exactly, The Forerunners de-evolved entire species like humanity or quarantied others like the San 'Shyuum. Now humans are trying to kill off the Sangheili, so that they mean no harm to them and their expansion as they rebuild.

Give me a direct source and quote for the human part because ONI does not represent all of humanity. From the UNSC side for both races to peacefully ignore each other if not coexist to a degree is the goal. Humans have no reason to fight the Elites as both are in a weak state.

Don’t remember the human quarantining all alien species they came across, destroying them and using their technology to advance themselves. I clearly remember the humans expressing fear of being wiped out by the forerunners because they know they forerunners have done that before.

You only have to look so far in our own history to see how bad humans are. Besides, humans displaced plenty of species and took their worlds for colonization. Given the same opportunities, you think they’d act any differently? Hell no.
