Since there are so many precision weapons this time around, halo 4s multiplayer is clearly going to be a different beast than previous games. We have so many choices this time around, people all have slightly different play styles. The way I see it, certain precision weapons are tailored for different people. Here is all the weapons and who I think will be using them(after launch and people have assumingly played with every one).
1)DMR/Needle Rifle: people picking up either of these weapons are generally going to be people who are extremely proficient with precision weapons and understand how to get the most out of these weapons(and most other weapons).
BR/Carbine: most of the people using these are generally going to be spammers, nostalgists(nostalgic players or what ever you want to call them) and new players. These weapons are extremely easy to use, and have a low skill requirement to operate successfully.
3)light rifle: if it’s zoom 4sk isn’t fixed, I see this weapon as being cheap and OP. Only people(people who aren’t very good with precision weapons at all) with absolutely no skill will use the light rifle.
Although it all comes down to personal preference, which do you like more. These are just my opinions, I’m not here to start any flame wars.
Note: I know that the Needle rifle hasn’t been confirmed, but I still have hope. It wasn’t available in the Pax build, but it could have not been available in time for pax(maybe it was in the process of getting some polishing or 343i wanted it to be a big surprise for when they decide to drop the covie weapons vid).

What? The Lightrifle is a cheap weapon for people with no skill?
Since when did that happen?
And why would it have to be fixed? It is a burst fire outside of scope, 5sk. 4sk in scope is its way of separating itself from the other weapons, and balancing itself out since zooming in is single shot.
Explain your reasoning behind your criticism of the Lightrifle. I don’t see it as a noob weapon at all, and it looks to be the weapon I’ll be using. A perfect hybrid of BR out of scope and DMR in scope.
I’m just glad the sandbox seems perfectly balanced for once. Not “one to rule them all.” (even though that works too. Just… more weapons = less boring, is all.)

Well, the LR is actually a tad OP when 4sk scoped.
In scope (Med-Long): BR < DMR < LR
Out of scope (Close-Med): DMR < BR = LR
That should be balanced. Maybe… 6sk out of scope? That way…

The DMR is still the long range weapon… I haven’t seen the Lightrifle beat the DMR at long range.
And do you want to make it underpowered? 6sk out of scope?
If it is OP at range, don’t nerf it so its useless against other weapons, just decrease the effective range in scope. The DMR will come out on top, but a good LR user can still win… like it should be.

If you have a weapon capable of getting a 4sk, everyone is going to pick it over every weapon that doesn’t do equal or more damage. If the light rifle is as accurate as the dmr is in scope, than none of the other precision weapons will stand a chance as the LR out ranges the BR and Carbine and is equal in range/accuracy to the dmr. Bottom line: you can’t have one weapon capable of doing 4sk in a sandbox where other weapons do 5sk or 6sk, it renders the sandbox unbalanced.

Well, I wanted to break the redundancy when out of scope. The BR and LR are identical when bursting. Guns doing the same amount of damage under the same circumstances (provided they hit all shots) is kind of a problem. It’s what I don’t like about having several guns of the same category. They tend to get redundant. The LR would be top long range and bottom close range, under my suggestion. As of right now, it’s tied top close range and top long range.

First of all, it’s the nostalgic player that will use these two. Second, compared to other weapons, these aren’t as good. And third, au contrare ; these two will require a lot more skill. Maybe not the Carbine, but the BR at it’s current state? Definitely.
> 1)DMR/Needle Rifle: people picking up either of these weapons are generally going to be people who are extremely proficient with precision weapons and understand how to get the most out of these weapons(and most other weapons).
There is no Needle Rifle.
Either the extremely proficient are going to pick this rifle or they’re going to pick up the LR.
If that isn’t true, then your statement here is perplexing because the LR is OP’d by your words (which it isn’t).
> 2) BR/Carbine: most of the people using these are generally going to be spammers and new players. These weapons are extremely easy to use, and have a low skill requirement to operate successfully.
Ya but make up your mind, noobs are going to pick these 2 weapons or they’re going to pick the LR. So far noobs are keeping things diverse.
> 3)light rifle: if it’s zoom 4sk isn’t fixed, I see this weapon as being cheap and OP. Only noobs with absolutely no skill will use the light rifle.
To recap, I though they’d be using the BR or Carbine. At least as stated by you.
Players are going to find the weapon they find most useful for their style/gametype/map most preferred and use that often.
I’m taking the LR for my main precision with the DMR and Carbine to be experimented with a lot. The BR will get used if I find I cannot defend myself against it with the weapons I am using that I prefer.

At range. Scoped in.
That means you have to hit all your shots in scope. In many situations, you’ll be knocked out of scope, which will interrupt that 4sk kill.
Yes, the LR is powerful scoped in. But you have to be skilled to use it. If a noob goes in on Haven and scopes in all the time to get 4sk, it won’t work most of the time. Its harder to shift your aim zoomed in when enemies are jumping around and strafing, especially if they’re firing back at you. You also lose your radar and other HUD stats.
The Lightrifle is a powerful weapon, but it requires some skill to operate to its full potential. A noob can’t walk in and go on a killing spree cause he is zooming in.
The LR being 4sk inscope can be balanced.
But I do agree, its effective range should be somewhere around the BR… maybe a bit farther. Let the DMR still rule at long range.
If the Lightrifle is as accurate as the DMR and is as efficient at that range, I will agree that it should be toned down. But I still see the DMR being very effective at range, where it should be. The Lightrifle is about in between the DMR and BR, effective at most ranges, but the other weapons still have their special niches.

There are other ways to balance it or make it different than making it underpowered in many situations.
Decrease the firing speed or clip size. Decrease the effective range so its more of a hybrid, inbetween BR and DMR at long range. Increase the reload time.
The LR isn’t really redundant, since it is a hybrid. Effective at both ranges, burst fire out of zoom and single shot in zoom.
To start off, I have to think that you haven’t watched any gameplay at all, especially when referring to the BR and Carbine as weapons for noobs. Out of the the BR, Carbine, and DMR, the BR has the longest kill time, carbine second, and DMR has the third. (Haven’t heard an official kill time for the LR) With just that it shows the BR will take the most skill to out-do the other weapons, but when you take into consideration that each weapon is designed for a different range that balances out the weapons completely. The BR is designed to have the shortest range of the three, so it’ll take an extremely talented DMR user to top a BR in close range, and vice versa for long range. The carbine is designed to be the strongest at a middle range. Factor in the light rifle which has burst fire unzoomed. The burst appears to be slower than the BR burst which puts it at a disadvantage when going against a BR up close. The four shot kill at long range is balanced by the fact that it needs to be scoped in for that to happen. In a long range battle with a DMR the light rifle will be knocked out of its scope and be forced to burst fire. That won’t be as accurate as its scoped single shot. Another thing you never considered is the effectiveness of the automatic weapons in general. Each weapon is good for a style of play and each player will have their preferences for weapons.
The chart for weapon range should go like this (in order from closest range to long range)
Automatic guns -> BR -> LR (Burst fire) -> Carbine -> LR (Single Shot) -> DMR
These weapons are balanced for their range, obviously each weapon should win the battle at its own respective range, but ultimately it comes down to the level of skill that the player has. That is what Halo has always been about.

I never refered to the BR and carbine as noob weapons. I refer to them as weapons for new players(people who who havent played halo before or played very little), they have been pointed out by 343i as being the easier weapons to use than the dmr. And I have seen lots of game play, in the ones that I have seen, the BR and carbine seem very easy to operate compared to the DMR IMO.
This is why a beta should have been released to see how all these new weapons and abilities work together.Yes I understand people are playing it at these expos but that isn’t enough.I would rather have a beta and wait a few more months for them to fix any bugs or problems than it be rushed like Reach was.But to stay on topic how can the LR compare to other weapons but still feel different. The LR not zoomed in is like the BR,while zoomed in is a Dmr.That alone to me will be the one gun everyone is gonna pick not only for the 4sk but because it functions as 2 weapons. Why would anyone pick a BR primary and a Dmr secondary when all you need is a Lr to fill both of those roles. That to me should be looked upon.
