So I’ve been goofing around with the Light Rifle (LR) and Battle Rifle (BR) in a few designated loadouts as I’m pretty close to mastering out my DMR commendation. I’ll probably also start playing with the Covenant Carbine (CC) soon too. I’ve noted a few things and have a few questions.
First, the BR seems to be a much better weapon on small maps. It’s useless on Ragnarok or even Longbow if you want to take out guys from far away. But it seems to have the same hitscan ability as the DMR so it is totally useful on small maps such as what you would find in Infinity Slayer. The LR however is as powerful as the DMR but it doesn’t seem to hitscan the way human weapons do. Is this in fact true that the LR is NOT hitscan? If so, who made that dumb decision? A friend and I usually cover each others backs in BTB and we trade kills when we both use the DMR, but today I whipped out the LR and became Major Assist. I’m assuming the CC is the same way, but the high rate of fire can compensate for the lack of hitscan a bit. So why are all precision weapons NOT hitscan?
Next the CC doesn’t seem to have a definable headshot capability? Seems the couple of times I’ve used it, it’s two or three “body” shots and the enemy dies, but just couldn’t land a head shot. Is this just because the CC fires so fast, you can’t quite tell WHEN the header has landed and the other shots hit too making it look like body shots? Or is the CC lacking a decent headshot capability?
DMR definitely seems to be the uber-starting weapon of the game. It’s easy to use, quick kills and outperforms its brother BR in most situations. The BR has a place, but the other starting precision weapons just don’t seem as useful as the DMR. (Not that you can’t pick up kills and master their commendations, it just requires a slightly different playstyle than the DMR which seems odd to me.)
