Pre-spawn handicap settings

Is there any way to disable the pre-spawn handicap settings in MM? I know that it’s possible to strategically scratch your disk and preclude the option of certain maps from being selected(at least twice, anyway, before you are booted); I’m wondering if the same is possible for the handicap settings. I’m tired of unskilled players getting undeserved kills via pathetic means such as jetpack and armor lock. These don’t belong in this type of game and while I do not condone the aforementioned tactic of purposeful map avoision, these handicap settings are extremely annoying and only reward bad players lacking the skill to obtain kills like the rest of us. In recent months it has gotten a lot worse, its nigh impossible to find a good game in rumble pit or multi team without encountering either extreme lag or this type of unskilled kid, usually in multiples. I would never mod or cheat in any way, just looking for a way to disable these handicap settings so everyone is on the same playing field.

How are elements implemented into the game handicap settings?

I’m not sure you know what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the handicap settings that appear before you spawn like invulnerability, partial invisibility, height advantage, etc… Things that unskilled players need in order to gain an advantage over other better players that would never think of needing said abilities in order to do well.

Uh there aren’t any handicaps settings? Now reach does have some netting error “blood shots” but that goes to halo reach being host dedicated. But no actual handicap ability.

Hi I’m new

Again, you don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the shadowy boxes that appear on the right side of the screen before you spawn and at the beginning of the game. I generally avoid BTB like the plague but in order to complete the heavy ordnance daily challenge the other day I ventured in. It turned out to be exactly as unenjoyable as I remembered due to these handicap settings. I swear everyone on the other team was either flying around or using armor lock; it was pathetic. I genuinely feel bad for kids that need to use these as they aren’t truly learning how to play the game properly. The game would be more populated if not only these setting were removed, but awful playlists like this one and griffball were replaced by ones such as action sack and squad slayer(DLC preferably; I bought all of the maps as they came out and have played nary a game on them in years) in addition to the TU settings being made standard in all playlists. This is the last good halo game produced, it’s a shame more people don’t play it - I feel like the aforementioned changes would certainly bring more players back and make it a better experience for everyone.

Basically you want a playlist or the games in non-Firefight matchmaking to have default settings (AR + Magnum, 2 Frag Grenade, No Armor Abilities)?

I know outside of matchmaking, like in the Campaign, and customs they seem to fit. Armor Lock can be utilized with inclemental weather (and the ‘plasma galaxy’ glitch) for an amazing screenshot . I know in custom games, you can kind of semi-activate them for fun gestures, such as semi-activate armor lock with a gravity hammer for some slow dancing, or semi-activate a Drop Shield for a ‘throw down’ reference.

In the campaign, each one has a purpose, the Drop Shield being the most interesting one, as if you are playing with the Black Eye Skull on (Or LASO), it becomes a portable Health Station. Same with Firefight. I feel Armor Lock has it’s strongest potential in Firefight actually, as it can be utilized moreso offensively against enemy AI if you use it properly (Or if you have trolling randoms who want to try to run you over with a Warthog, which I have used Armor Lock for for in a couple of those games)

But I can understand and actually quite agree for having some level of balance of gameplay in Matchmaking, or having a truely classic playlist to create this. A classic style playlist (AR + Magnum, 2 Frag Grenade, No Armor Abilities) would give the said result while allowing achievements (Such as Poppin N Lockin) to still be achievable. Although having Armor Lock used against me in Matchmaking in the past didn’t bug me much, I can see the frustration with that.

Basically your opponent hangs out around a corner and waits last second until you are there, comes out, quick armor locks to use the EMP to take out your shield and then pummels you. It is implementation of strategy via gameplay mechanics, but when you want balance, this will not give that. Hasn’t happened to me, but I have seen it happen alot to other people. Or let’s say, you shot the person first, they go into armor lock ‘like a shelled turtle’ as a friend of mine would say, recharge their shields completely, and then gun you down instead, despite you clearly hitting them first, even upon them exiting armor lock.

Sprint is Sprint, and hasn’t really caused me any pains. Jetpacks, now there is an annoyance that I can clearly understand. Being shot from the sky unexpectedly time and time again, especially by a group of jetpack users is really annoying, much so to the point where you are hoping you can get your hands on a Needler, Plasma Launcher, or Grenade Launcher to deal with them. To hope that you can find those consistently in a match against a group of jetpackers kind of takes the fun out of it. This armor ability I will say promotes ‘Power Play’ (As in causing players to flock to find bigger weapons to counterbalance), which once again, if you want balance, this does not work.

Now if people want to use Evade, that is something I will say more power to them when it is available. People tend to roll right into death usually and you can usually time a well placed grenade stick or punch to kind of get the edge on them. I have yet to see any player in Matchmaking use Drop Shield, so I guess it’s not popular at all.

I hope I am understanding you properly on the matter.

You mean loadouts? That’s a very interesting name for them. There aren’t any loadouts in the Anniversary Classic Playlist, if that helps.

I used to play Anniversary FFA but that got removed years ago. Excellent playlist. I will never understand why they leave garbage like big team battle and griffball in the game but remove great playlists like that and action sack. Makes zero sense. I’d play Classic but i abhor going in those types of playlists solo and I really only have friends that I met in rumble pit and multi team. Only very rarely will I have 3 other friends on that want to play any of those playlists.
