I was thinking. Reach is about 10 years old now, and the pre-order items are not available anymore, like ever. With all map packs free now (343 update the game to require players to have all the map packs in order to play the game), the pre-order items appear on the DLC page on the store, but are not available.
Just having these unlocked for free, to buy, or earned in-game somehow, wouldn’t hurt anyone, including the nameplates. Unless they’re all locked away by Bungie still, then we have a problem.

the nameplates and blue flames are locked behind bungie but the preorder items are not. the only reason they appear in the store are since you need to download them to use them if you had unlocked the codes back in the day. They were preorder for a reason. Personally I hope 343 don’t release the old preoder content for Reach (Recon UA/HUL 3, UA Multi-Threat, Legendary Flames, Elite Officer) as there is really no reason to release them and would take away from exclusivity/rarity of them.
Nope, keep them unique.
Look what happened to Recon in Halo 3 when that was given out to everyone. Made it absolutely pointless to those who either earned it from Bungie or worked for it via the Vidmasters.
Blue Flames are for those of us who were there when Bungie left and the pre-order items should continue to be unique to those who paid extra for them.

I mean technically recon in halo 3 is no longer obtainable in Halo 3 either, bungie unlocked it for a bunch of Halo 3 players before they left of which I was one of the people who got the helmet. lol I’ve actually been going after the vidmaster achievements recently so I can at least say I would have earned Recon if I had done the challenges back then.
What is with this wave of people wanting all to be given all the exclusive items? I’ve seen things like this with some of the cosmetics in Halo 5: Guardians as well. Anything that needs to be obtained through means outside of the normal method, be it a pre-order, game type (limited/legendary) or unlocked through special methods or completing certain prerequisites should stay that way. As everyone else has mentioned, when rare items become readily available to the entire player base, they loose whatever special value they original had in the first place.
Take something like the Elite Officer Armor. It was obtained by buying a Limited Edition version of the game, which was a little more expensive and not as mass produced as the base game. So that makes the Elite Officer Armor pretty unique. I managed to get lucky and picked up a Limited Edition copy of the game at Wal-Mart a couple of years back when they put a few on the shelf. If they were just like “Well, here is this unique item.” and made it available to everyone, I’d be pretty pissed because this special item I managed to get lucky to stumble upon and paid almost 60 bucks (granted, the Limited Edition didn’t come with just the Elite Officer Armor, it was also in a collectors tin as well as included a copy of Dr. Halsey’s journal and some other little tidbits.) for is now no longer special.
So I stand firmly with the notion of any item, cosmetic or not, that was originally obtained through methods other than the normal way in-game should not be made openly available to everyone. Hell, I missed out on the Blue Flames…does that mean I want it to be given to me? Nope. I missed it, my lose.

See I got the Special Edition of Reach because a retailer I passed by on my way home had for some reason mis-priced the Special Edition and Base game prices. The Special Edition was £30 and the base game was £45. It was a no brainer to go for the Special Edition in my case.
Doncut97 - Yeah I suppose new players who missed Bungie (or was it 343?) giving the Recon armour away still have to go through the Vidmasters. It did disappoint me when I found out the armour had been given out to everyone. I remember playing Firefight on ODST for 3 hours to get the final Vidmaster achievement way back in 2009. It was NYE, and the team we had assembled finally managed to do it, with minutes to spare before the New Year. 2010 started off good. The armour was still unique back then but after the handout, Recon was everywhere. It just suddenly made the whole experience not feel as rewarding.

I believe Bungie gave it out as their last thing to the community before transferring everything to 343. Even if you did the vidmasters now you wouldn’t be able to obtain Recon like some people still think. I’m doing them to complete achievements on all the FPS Halo Games so obviously I’m gonna go after the vidmasters.
Heck with the Blue Flames I had been playing Reach since the beginning of 2011 and only missed the flames cause Bungie.net and the Bungie App were both blocked by my wifi until a month after it was released for Bungie Day 2011. Yeah I’m kinda of upset I didn’t get them even tho I was online but it was an incentive to use Bungie.net and the Bungie App which now do not support Halo as 343 took over.
I think the preorder item with the highest rarity for Reach is the UA Multi-Threat chest piece as it was only a GameStop preorder and most of them were printed onto receipts unless you managed to get the nice cardboard insert that fit into the case for the game. You can occasionally find sealed editions of the Limited or Legendary Editions but finding an unused/valid code for UA Multi-Threat is very difficult to find. I was lucky to get one of the possible last one cardboard inserts with the code for the chest piece on ebay as I don’t know of anywhere else 7 1/2 years later where you’re going to find an unused code for that. Not gonna say how much I paid for it but it was very close to the price of the legendary edition that’s for sure. XD
Pre order stuff should stay exclusive but the flaming head you got for signing up on Bungie.net shouldn’t be as it wasn’t intended to be exclusive. Would be good incentive to buy MCC if Reach can be ported or for those who already have MCC to get it. Or simply signing up on Waypoint.

Honestly blue flames shouldn’t come back to being available to Reach (this is coming from someone who doesn’t even have them) but if they did it should only be to those who played Reach on or before Bungie day 2011 or as a gift to only be available on bungie day. They were a gift for Bungie day which still made them a timed exclusive. Bungie very well intended them to be exclusive to Bungie day, of course we don’t know if they were to return the following Bungie day as 343 took over but I assume possible. They could always come back on July 7th each year and you need to at least play a game of multiplayer that day to unlock it.
The only way it would feel acceptable to bring them back if ever would be on bungie day and only bungie day.

Agreed, 100% fully.
You can still find some of this stuff on eBay I know Recon for sure. Thats if you wanna pay for it though some of the sealed editions of these games that have them still go for a lot. I actually found a used copy of Reach at Gamestop a month ago with an unused Recon armor code but they took it out at the register (because I forgot how much Gamestop sucks about minor things) so I was pretty mad I didn’t get another code for it that day
. But seriously check eBay it’s your best bet.

and this is why I stopped buying preowned games from gamestop. Only time I buy from there now is to preorder cause they usually get the cooler preorder items for a variety of games for some reason.

I just don’t understand why they do it. I’ve noticed they do it for all pre-owned too. After my Halo Reach Recon fiasco I had remembered they took the game manual out of a copy of ODST I got for my brother around Christmas. What purpose does it serve for Gamestop to take away the manual of a game from someone? Its annoying but its a head scratcher more than anything. If anyone that works at Gamestop happens to see this maybe they can give me some insight. But I agree I only do pre-orders there now for exclusive content I REFUSE to trade back anything since they give you next to nothing for it. I’d rather just give it to someone who will play it rather than give them more business than I have to.
Just want to clarify Blue Flames - 343 never took over the ability to unlock those, at the time it was limited to Bungie’s app and website. If you didn’t unlock them before 2012, it’s impossible foe them to be unlocked now. The tech to do so, as with Recon, has since been retired

that’s what I assumed cause I remember hearing that Bungie didn’t give 343 the ability to give out the Blue Flames or Recon helmet in switching all the Halo.Bungie.net stuff to here on Waypoint.

Yep, it’s the same with the Nameplates. Unless you already have them when they first gave them out, you can’t get them now.

or change them, don’t forget that otherwise we’ll have people who have one that want to change theirs be asking how to change it. XD

The problem is, I bought halo reach with the recon helmet dlc, but on the xbox one, for some reason, I can’t download the DLC, even though it’s on the marketplace but it says that it is currently unavailable. I have also tried pressing start on my halo reach game and going to manage game, but my recon DLC helmet doesn’t show up. This was a long time after Halo Reach was made backwards compatible, but this is still a huge headache for me. I just want 343 to unlock the DLCs so that I can finally get the Recon helmet that I bought and paid for.
