Ok so I have been seeing A LOT of confusion surrounding the Zeta Sky weapon coatings that are promised as pre-order bonuses, mainly due to 343’s incompetent marketing. Gamestop is apparently giving you the AR coating, Best Buy is the BR coating, based off of the pictures. However, on GS + BB’s website it doesn’t explicitly say that they are splitting up the coatings by retailer in their product description page, but Walmarts does go to explain:
“Pre-order bonus: Pre-order Halo Infinite to receive the Zeta Sky Armor Coating as well as the Chosen Emblem and Nameplate and the exclusive MK50 Sidekick.”
And then the VK78 commando rifle is in a preorder bonus from JB-HIFI (retailer in AUSTRALIA).
So basically if you live in the U.S. you have to pre-order 3 times from different retailers + get a code from someone in australia if you want -Yoink!-’ BLUE on all of your weapons day one. Very logical marketing 343. Anyway my question is, to clear the confusion, has anyone pre-ordered the game from any of these retailers and redeemed their code on waypoint? What does it say if you have? I just want to confirm whether the dlc is confirmed to split up amongst many retailers in the U.S., or if you redeem your code from Gamestop or Best Buy (in particular) if it gives you all of the coatings on waypoint. This is just so needlessly confusing.
I guarantee by the time you’ve finished playing on day one, you’ll have unlocked cooler coatings then the pre-order bonuses.
I wouldn’t get too hung up on it, and they’ll likely make them unlockable down the road anyway.
Agreed, they should have had it be clear from the start and say if it was just one weapon skin or for them all. I also can’t add much helpful information as I’m waiting to see if there is going to be a preorder bonus on Steam.

Yuuuup and this is the second time they’ve done this. First time was with the monster energy promo. They split up every dlc item in the U.S. and land locked a couple of them so that not everyone could get them on purpose. Europe had it way easier. As scummy as it is to incentivize more purchases for the dlc, at least there is a point to it. In this case its just straight up nonsensical to prevent people from getting certain dlc thus spending more $. It kind of defeats the purpose lol.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that. But it’s only been confirmed with the Snack on with Xbox Canada promotion. Leaving fans to guess/gamble on that assumption only makes the FOMO worse. Again, something they adamantly denied would be part of Infinite.
What makes even less sense is that these Zeta Sky coatings are a set. And they’re now preventiong fans the obtaining the complete the set?

Shame they promised no FOMO, it just makes 343 look bad now. Though if they do release it later like SnakeEyesRaw said that might fix some of the bad press

The precedent has been set in the past… so basically unless they change their stance on it… and anger a lot of fans… I doubt they’ll change mid-stream now… I would expect them to show up for everyone eventually, whether through challenges to be unlocked… or somehow purchased in game. It may be 3 months, could be 6… that part is anyone’s guess… but I would expect preorder bonuses to be available to everyone…
I would also agree with others who have said it already… but there’s going to be cooler stuff unlocked in game… so I wouldn’t get too hung up on which preorder bonus to get… you won’t end up using it that long anyway…

They have taken too many missteps at this point. Anything they do to try correct some of these obvious mistakes can now be rightfully interpreted as inauthentic or greedy.
Release them for free in three months and the fans who paid for them get upset.
Release them as paid DLC and they’re going wild with monetization.
Keep them permanently exclusive and I will complain about FOMO, region-locked, and not being able to complete a set unless I buy the game four times.
I am also waiting on a Steam pre-order bonus but I doubt we’ll get one. They probably charged the other stores a lot of money to receive these exclusive coatings.

The possibility that you may not care for these particular coatings and the fact that there will be many other paid coatings does nothing to excuse the bad promotion practices they’ve been implementing for almost two years before launch.

It’s also the case with the action figures, Funko Pop, and other products. It stands to reason that this will likely be the same.

Pretty much ^ also laughing my -Yoink- off that you’re pretty much just paying for blue, I can hear angryjoe’s voice screaming from here xD
I’ll stick to just getting it for free with my already existing gamepass since we don’t even have the option for a legendary edition with some cool halo memorabilia, just a steel case.
The pre-order coatings are trash. You can probably unlock them after a week for free. Most of the people that pre-order from a store wont even use those trash coatings.
This is why I don’t like pre-order dlc. I can understand pre-order items to some degree like with physical items but all content content should be earnable in-game and people shouldn’t feel punished for not buying from every known retail shop just to get a skin and it’s bad enough when company’s do this with exclusive story dlc or blocking characters like Spiderman from Avengers game just to spite other companies.

This, I have the WCT Coating from the Master Chief Jazwares figure and I would love to see what it is going to look like because I fully anticipate dropping it shortly into Season 1 when a better coating comes along.
