I haven’t really done my research on this but I was wondering, how much more practical is the SRS99-S5 AM (Halo 4 Sniper) compared to it’s predecessors ?
Is the sniper’s change from it’s predecessors just cosmetic or does it actually have any improvements?

The sniper is very practical. Not much you can do to protect agains armor piercing rounds traveling fast enough to punch through personal energy shields.
Also cosmetic change.
Judging it by its appearence I could imagine it now comes with incorporated home entertainment systems, a microwave, survival kits, all what a soldier can wish for, etc., very likely inspired by the weapon from Beverly Hills Cop 3.
But jokes aside, it likely has at least some minor improvements otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense to introduce a new model, would it?

I’m also curious as to know if Linda-058 uses this model of the sniper for her deployments, from what I recall she used a modified version of the SRS99C-S2 AM

Perhaps, though then she would likely use a custom version of it again.
However, as far as I know it still shoots the same bullets, has still the same fire power, so in that regard has nothing changed.
Therfore I think she could likely just as well modify/update her custom sniper with the new tech introduced with the S5, whatever it might be, in case she thinks it is necessary.
I could even imagine that her custom sniper works better, is more advanced (at least for her) than the newest model, so it would not even be necessary/reasonable for her to switch the model at all.
