The fuel rod is gone from Riptide and the sword is gone from Overgrowth… replaced by a hydra and a needler respectively. What the hell? Is this a permanent change? If so, this sucks. I love fighting for power weapons, they’re a point on the map where everyone converges. The whole point is to control them, as they are powerful.
Everyone loves to moan and complain that a weapon or tactic is OP, but there’s usually a way to counter them. Counter the sword with camo, counter the fuel rod with the beam rifle etc. It makes the game more interesting.
They already removed the shotgun from Overgrowth and now the sword, at this rate we’ll be reduced to just pistols in no time. Yawn.

Well they don’t want one weapon to absolutely dominate the game, its just a period of balancing

did you even play overgrowth when there was camo, railgun, sword and shotgun.Imagine the entire enemy team controlling those weapons are annihilating you…they do at least at Onyx level. This is a good thing that will make people actually want to play overgrowth. As for the fuel rod on Riptide I could take it or leave it. They’re doing a good job lately listening to the community at large’s concerns.Kudos to them.
This has happened since the Forge update, the tank on Recurve was replaced by a gausshog. The changes to maps happen every update to make each match different.
Realy disliking that map since fuel rod has gone. I liked how it drew players out as well as gave teams an edge if they actually managed to win it. Since they have taken it out they should put over shield or invisibility in! Over shield would realy help to control top middle

Fuel rod was the only thing capable of challenging a proper blue/sands setup in Riptide and now it’s gone… All you have to do now is get beam and camp at blue and you can’t be beaten, is that balance :D? Srsly there’s like 3 entrances there and 2 of them can be solohandled lol
I agree on overgrowth, once you hit the first timers right it was a 15KDA game for the team controlling the power weapons

They also replaced the regular magnums on Recurve with H:CE ones.
I like that map even more, now.
But to the OPs point, as fun as it was to run around on Overgrowth and killing people left and right, it was really overpowered in that instance. The same could be said for Ripitide because of how corridor-based it is, and how the level is multi-leveled. (but that’s just my guess, maybe they thought the Hydra would be better?)
It would be nice if they detailed these changes in the updates as well. Not fussed about the changes on overgrowth but removing the fuel rod from riptide is not a good move IMO

Exactly! Everyone would fight over it at the beginning. But you also had the option to rush the beam rifle and then snipe the enemies from blue bridge. I’ve got loads of kills that way.
The fuel rod is powerful, but it can be beaten. I’ve got killstreaks, but also lost it many times.
As for sword on overgrowth, it was the most fun part about that map. I’ve had some crazy streaks, got a 22-0 the other week. If the enemy have it, it’s definitely a pain to deal with. But that’s part of the fun, and good team work will help when dealing with an enemy rushing around with a sword.
The original shotgun/camo combination was a bit OP to be fair. It was annoying as hell to run around the corner and get instantly killed by someone who’s invisible and camping with the shotgun.

Hmmm, well if you read my post there is a clue in there somewhere that will answer your question.
While i agree idont hate overgrowth now it does seem empty to me. Maybe that empty feeling is where my extreme hatred for this map used to be, but itll take some getting used to with no op weapons for the map. Riptide does need a replacement for the fuel rod. Something to counter the beam. Maybe a speed boost. idk

The same could be said for rockets on Eden. I’m usually guaranteed at least a couple of kills if I get them, and sometimes I’ll get 4.
The same could be said for overshield on Empire, whoever gets it first will get to kill the enemy who also rushed it, then probably another kill or two.
Hell the same could be said for any POWER weapon on any map. They are powerful, that’s the point in them! Fighting over them is a huge part of the game and makes it more fun. And it’s a great feeling when you get the power weapon and turn the tides of battle.
Halo without power weapons in Arena its just another CoD game. There is no struggle, no contest for spaces and firefights. Its just running around with spawn weapons.
I remember when Halo 2 Anniversary came out everywhere was saying that controlling power weapons was the essence of Halo, i guess those people left Halo 5 for good now.

Have you PLAYED an ffa on overgrowth? Or even team slayer for that matter? The sword is the most infuriating thing on that map, and controlling it almost guarantees a win and no deaths as long as you play safe. You could legitimately run around top mid without stopping and be able to lunge quicker than any oncoming enemy can 4 or 5 shot you. It was OP and needed to be removed.
As for the fuel, it was basically 50% of the kills for every TS on riptide. It wasn’t fun and did not belong on that map. I feel like both of these changes have been a long time coming, and will improve the game play on each respective map.

Maybe it’s OP on FFA, but we’re talking about team slayer here.
And you’re wrong, as I had tons of fun on Riptide. But thanks for stating your opinion as fact.

Exactly this. No more plats beating onyx palyers because they spawned sword on overgrowth and then effectively spaen kill their way to an undeserved victory. Finally these maps are worth playing. If only 343 now sorted out the horrendous onyx division debacle with nosediving csrs…
