Power Weapon Countdowns

I genuinely want to know how many people like either option. I have noticed a trend in FPS games where the power weapons are highlighted and announced. Why the change? Was this user feedback? It totally changes gameplay (for better or worse, depending on your viewpoint). Let me know your thoughts.

For better.

I think it just helps even it out for people that were always unaware of quiet spawns.

Meh, I can be annoying when everyone goes to the power weapon instead of the objective

I don’t think it makes much of a difference. Most halo players generally knew where the weapon spawns were, it was then up to them to memerize when they spawn back. The only thing the current system does is tell them when it’s about to respawn, not necessarily game changing imo.

It’s done that way to give idiots who don’t learn the map, an equal chance. Which I think is worse. It used to be that knowing the map could ensure that your team won the match.

I think that a countdown causes a rush and a battle over the power weapons. I think it’s a good thing.

It draw out the enemy to a point to shoot them.

I generally dislike it. My primary complaint about the countdown/announcement is it ruins any element of surprise for the player who works to get this weapon. In H2 and H3, you live in constant threat of someone having a power weapon. This causes play to flow differently. When this is announced, everyone changes how they are playing until the weapon is secured or the player/location is known. Some people like this but IMO it totally changes the dynamic of Halo matches. Second major frustration is when this is announced, gameplay turns from flowing firefights to concentrated grenade spam and “Everyone kill the guy with the power weapon.” Not that it isn’t fun, but I prefer consistent flow of gameplay. I can see, however, the frustration that comes when people who don’t know map flow and weapon spawns constantly get smeared by people who consistently have the power weapons.

I don’t mind it.

It lets lower level players experience high level like play.

I never understood the complaint about call outs. When I play 4V4 I assume I’m playing a team with communication. Call outs and timers is like having everyone using mics.

always try to role with a squad, hated randoms because of the lack of information you get, call outs fixes this. Wanting them removed is like asking to ban mics ( kinda not really)

This! If your used to playing with a group with mics. This is nothing new to you.

Its not the same at all. Before, knowing when a weapon would spawn and retrieving it effectively gave you an advantage. Now, noobs who don’t know what they’re doing stop when they hear “Sniper/Rockets/etc. In 10,” turn, and start nade spamming it or showering with AR fire. It was nice when could coordinate someone keeping the enemy busy while you sneak up, grab a power weapon, and flank. You can’t do that at all anymore.

How is it not the same? Yes before some would know. After the game has been out for some one at least one random in every 4 might also have said knowledge. And if said player has a mic. He is relaying. Said info.

If you go in expecting a team of 4 with mics than you should prepare for not being the only one aware of pending power weapon.

If you’ve ever watched old school halo 2 MLG back in the final boss days. They have someone not playing the game shouting coming spawns.

Everyone has access to the same information at the same time. NOW if you get away with the rockets on coliseum chances are you earned it or the team was pinned down somewhere

I like the countdown because it encourages people to move around and fight for that weapon. It’s not left to luck of happening to run into it

I think it adds fairness every one knows when it drops and when it’s picked up but let’s be honest has the call out ever stopped you from getting kills nope

not everyone is a freaking nerd and goes to custom games and have to learn the spawns and how long it takes for a weapon gosh. not all of us have the patience and time.

Definitely prefer quiet countdowns. It was always part of the strategy to figure out where the weapons were and when and if to try for them. The countdowns take that away.

To some degree, yes. Even if you play with a team and communicate effectively, the other team doesn’t hear that and you didn’t know exactly when the sniper/rockets were going to spawn. (unless you were pro and had a 5th man counting for you. Highly unlikely. At least, I was/will never be that skilled) Not knowing that actually required more team work.

Announced spawns put more emphasis on set-ups and shooting skill. Quiet spawns put more emphasis on muscle memory. The former leads to more exciting gameplay for the player and viewer(s).
