Why don’t they institute a Quit games index for each player that’s calculated out of a ratio of completed games to games not completed. They could match us up based on rating/skill level first, and then secondarily filter us based on how many games we actually complete. It’ll be like game reputation but actually meaningful.
To keep us from being stuck in lopsided matches we could have a forfeit option that wouldn’t be calculated into the quit games index. This would be easy to implement. One player opens the start menu and instead of leave game it says “Team Forfeit.” After when teammates die, while waiting for respawn they can be prompted to confirm or deny the forfeit request. If each teammate agrees to forfeit then the match ends. If someone doesn’t want to quit then the game just keeps going. Each player can make up to two forfeit requests, that way you aren’t spammed by requests each time you are waiting for respawn.
Also after an undefined time period (maybe about 6 months) this index could be reset, in order to forgive accidental quits due to internet issues, life events, etc. Basically quits that couldn’t be avoided.
Quits will continue to be tied into reputation as well, that way if someone habitually quits and doesn’t care about the index, they still will eventually get bad Xbox live rep and each 6 month period reset won’t necessarily excuse them from their actions as having bad rep is more “permanent.”
*If someone has thought of this before hand, I apologize as I haven’t read anything similar to a quit index previously. Also the forfeit aspect of this idea is borrowed from several threads I’ve seen on Waypoint where that has been proposed in a similar fashion. I modified the idea to make it less intrusive to gameplay by having it prompt teammates while waiting for respawn rather than getting a message in the middle of a firefight.
Absolutely not, what if i don’t want to quit and i’m on a killing frenzy, suddenly a guy decides to “team forfeit” and that kills me and ruins my spree, i don’t think anybody would want to leave a life in the hands of quitters, a matchmaking ban should be fine after 3 matches in a small period of time, like a day, where the player quits, maybe ban them for a day, the next time they do it, ban them for a week, and the next time a permanent ban.
Those are some harsh punishments. A 1 day ban for their first time quitting? A permanent ban? Damn what if someone loses power or their internet cuts out and they are permanently screwed? That would be a great way to lose players to COD or Battlefront, easily.
Don’t ban quitters, show it in there Ranks and stats, but joining in eliminates the real negative of players quitting. Being banned from a game because you weren’t enjoying it makes you despise the game and have a lingering bad impression of it

I’m smiling because this is probably the first discussion on the issue I’ve read that couldn’t be summarized as “QUITTERS SHOULD BE FLOGGED AND BURNED AT THE STAKE”.
I think this is a neat idea but I’m not sure how effective it would really be at stopping people from quitting matches.

You’ve got issues, in no way should someone be Forced in a game ment for fun, to play out a match or lose that part of the game. People have lives to and some times you have to leave to take care of things. I know my dad bugged me during weekends to do work and I’d have no right to argue or disrespect him
Why not make someone play a full game without earning xp/rank? Quit again? Play 2 games without earning anything again…
I hate the ban system… I hardly, if ever, quit games, but sometimes you just have too…
The first time I got banned in Reach for quitting a few games, I stopped playing Reach completely. I was disgusted of the idea.
(1st and only time I got a ban from any game ever)
I’d gladly play a full match without earning rank, or getting negative points (I hate losing 2000xp in GoW), before taking a ban for a game…
why are they implementing a system to stop people from playing… keep them playing, for no xp/rank.

I agree with that statement, so I’m not sure why you’re telling me I have issues.

Not everyone cares for XP/Rank, so that sort of punishment would be meaningless for them. They wouldn’t see it as a bad thing at all, but more of a sign that they can keep quitting without penalty because the current system doesn’t affect them at all.
I’m tired of seeing people quit because the other team scored first or because someone shot them out of the banshee in the first 20 seconds on Valhalla. Quitting affects EVERYONE - so there should be some sort of punishment in place for repeat offenders, since you’re repeatedly ruining the experience for everyone else.
I’ve never liked the idea of punishing quitters. Instead, 343 should encourage players to stay in a match. Tie quitting to the player’s skill rank or make them lose REQ points, but never ever should you hinder players from playing your game. That’s just my opinion.

So why not do what MOBAS do where quitters are temporarily matched with eachother in low priority matchmade games, where queue times are longer and they can’t earn REQ or xp/rank during the duration of their punishment.
Players would have to complete a certain number of games to return to normal matchmaking. Continuous offenses require more low priority game completions.

I didn’t mean only rank. But like Bitter BR said above… Make it so they cant gain xp/rank, cant unlock req packs, stuff doesn’t count towards achievements, cant unlock the goodies for the amount of games they quit.

No you see were in the new age of join in game so really players dropping out is not the end of the world.

Which speaking of Destiny rewards players who finish the game and that is a big difference, I think bonus rec points for match complete is the way to go

Join-in-Progress is only for Warzone. For Arena, you’re still out of luck if people decide they want to quit.

I did not know this, and that’s a horrible decision, arena should be viewed as team slayer, not doubles from reach

All arena is ranked. Adding JiP to ranked games would completely nullify everything 343i is trying to do to get the franchise back on the competitive circuit.
