Posts, Tags, and Feedback – A Guide

We hope you are all playing and enjoying the brand new Halo Infinite multiplayer beta! We know some of you will have thoughts, questions, and feedback so I wanted to take a second to provide some helpful tips on how to convey that information to the devs.

First and foremost,

This is not where you report bugs or issues. That information should be directed towards the Halo Support site for tickets so we can pipe that information directly into our systems for review.

I repeat, do not send us your bugs, crash info, or ask for technical support – Leverage Halo Support for that information.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk feedback!

One of the advantages of the new forums is the tagging feature. This is really great because it allows us to view topics/posts on certain things we’re looking for feedback on. So if we’re looking for feedback on matchmaking, we can filter all the posts by that tag and easily dig into what we need.

This means, as you’re making posts, you are encouraged to use the tags I’ve loaded on the forums for you already (unfortunately you cannot make your own, I too played Halo 3/Reach and saw what got tagged there!) and if you have a tag that you think would be useful, please let me know and I will see what we can do.

How do you use tags? At the top of each post box there’s a box that says "optional tags and you can search for the relevant tags. Or, you can look at all the tags available to you here and choose them accordingly.

Please remember to keep your feedback constructive and S.M.A.R.T:

S: Specific
M: Measurable
A: Actionable
R: Relevant
T: Time-based

We don’t expect everyone to like everything but “X is trash” is not good feedback. Instead, consider how you phrase or frame your feedback and, instead, consider, “I don’t enjoy X because I feel it’s Y.” This provides context and something people can discuss specifically.

It’s been a long road and there’s a long road ahead of us and, as the saying goes, we’re just getting started. :green_heart:

And, once more for the people in the back, Halo Waypoint forums are not where you post about your bugs or crash issues, report that information to Halo Support so they can collect relevant information!

Edit – Don’t leave feedback on this thread, y’all. I left it open for questions about the tagging system and forums, not feedback.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Feedback/Concerns

I have some major concerns about the progression system going forward, as one day in I can already see how it’s affecting player behaviour. As much as it’s appreciated that the battle pass isn’t time-limited, this doesn’t excuse how slow and disheartening progression is, nor does it do much to account for time-limited rewards around counterintuitive conditions.

I’ve already seen numerous people go AFK or quit games after not being in a gametype they were hoping for, or camping certain weapon or item spawns in order to complete certain challenge conditions. This does little to incentivise players to play the game properly. At the very least, let us choose gametypes? I know that a lot of people have favourites they’d rather stick with.

Weekly Challenges:

  • Once we’ve exhausted the weeklies, what other way beyond the daily challenge is there to progress? It’s making a slow process even slower.
  • A lot of the later ones especially are very context specific, which does little to incentivise playing correctly.
  • Why gate them off and only have them available in chunks of 3-4? When you complete the conditions for a challenge you realise was upcoming, it’s really discouraging.

Daily Challenges:

  • It’s not encouraging being punished for playing more games by being rewarded less the more involved you are. Consider at least adjusting payouts for playing matches as they go on.
  • Please consider adding at least a couple more? And have them related to every play session type activity, like kills.

Honestly though, I really think being rewarded for activity alone should be considered if you insist of sticking with this system otherwise.

The game plays great and it’s fantastic to see it doing so well, but it’s barely been a day and I’m already seeing people find workarounds or game the system. It makes me worry about the future long-term sustainability of that popularity and game ecosystem. After playing both flights and enjoying, I find it hard to believe that I’m now playing, more or less, the final product but having my heart sink from chore lists.

First off I want to say that the gameplay feels smooth, the sound design is oddly satisfying and robust, the gun play feels both legacy and modern accompanied by the toned down movement mechanics, and the amount of customization available is great as well. The main issues for me are with battle pass xp gain, progression systems, BP challenges, and multiplayer matches.

  1. I understand the need for a battle pass and as a F2P multiplayer title, i’m all for one as long as it’s purely cosmetic. However, the way xp is gained needs to be revamped. A match of Big Team Battle and a match of Quick Play should not both be completed under “Play a Match”. There needs to be a flat xp gain that scales with the game mode that is being played. Different matches require different allocations of time to complete.

  2. With the progression system, or lack thereof, I don’t think the battle pass should be the only form of progression in the game. Yes it’s nice to slowly unlock cosmetics but players, myself included, like to feel like there is something we’re actually working towards that can be displayed to show just how much time we’ve put into the game. Halo Reach had military ranks and Halo 5 had SR ranks as 2 examples. Although I wasn’t a fan of SR ranks since they were just numbers, they were at least indicators of how much time and effort someone has put when you look at their profile. Have progression exclusive cosmetics. Maybe emblems, spartan voices, or perhaps even exclusive forge item unlocks. Maybe the progression system can take advantage of the armory where players can join Spartan clans with customizable hubs and rooms. It can be a system on its own alongside the battle pass. But there should be something there, especially to fill in the “down time” once players unlock all the battle pass tiers.

  3. Battle Pass challenges are a pretty common complaint I see floating around. Challenges are unfortunately impacting the gameplay. Players are more focused on individual player progression through the battle pass rather than actually playing the game. As an example, I had a challenge where I had to get 15 sidekick kills and 5 commando kills. During a game of CTF my focus was less on capturing the flag, and more on completing my objectives to unlock the next BP tier. Some players were also leaving the game since it most likely didn’t fit the challenge that they wanted to complete. If you really want to implement a challenge system to the battle pass, then it really needs to be limited to a certain amount. Have only 4 challenges that grant a lot of xp, then once those daily challenges are done, the rest is gained simply through flat xp that scales with the type of game mode that you’re playing. Big Team Battle might give 250 xp while any social play list might give 100 xp. The challenges either need to be scrapped or limited to a certain amount otherwise gameplay is going to be effected.

  4. Lastly, multiplayer matches. I’m not a fan of the fact that the match that we play is entirely dependent on what the game wants me to play. Especially when the battle pass challenges require specific game modes to be completed. What happens if I need to complete a match of strongholds and I never get into one? What happens when players go afk or they simply leave the match since the match they loaded into isn’t the game that is required for them to complete their challenge? There needs to be a way to either choose, or at least suggest and increase the chance of a specific game mode that we want to play. On top of Battle Passes already being pretty grindy (took me 5 hours to get to season pass rank 2) adding an rng element on top of it will only make playing the game more frustrating.

Overall the game is really good and i’m having a lot of fun. But I do worry about the longevity of the game when the only real incentive to keep playing is battle pass progression, especially when it’s a battle pass that’s integrated the way it is in Halo Infinite. Without a sufficient progression system, how much time are people really going to invest later down the line? There’s going to come a point where Battle Passes aren’t a good enough incentive to come back to the game for just cosmetics. I’m not saying that the core gameplay isn’t fun, because it is, but there will come a point where it becomes repetitive and players will want to move onto other games without that incentive to really improve their personal player profile. Battle Pass challenges and xp gain needs to be revamped, there needs to be a progression system, and we need to be able to choose what game modes we want to play. Other than that I really enjoyed playing the game. Great job to the devs at 343.

I’d like to voice my concerns regarding the challenges, progression and bot systems.
Starting with the challenges, I’ve noticed that many challenges require the player to be in a PVP match, I don’t like this, Call me a casual all you like, but I don’t think players should be forced to play PVP for the weekly reward.

Progression is abysmally slow and grindy in it’s current state, I’d recommend making xp easier to get in larger amounts, potentially allow the player to get per-match xp instead of tying it to the challenge system.

Bots (At least, marine level bots, anyway) feel a tad too dangerous compared to their counterparts from the
alpha flights, I’ll often find myself peaking a corner or doorway only to be met with a flurry of grenades, or I’ll attack what appears to be a lone enemy spartan, only for the rest of the enemy team to appear out of thin air as soon as my target’s shields go down. I understand having bots be challenging and capable opponents is a good thing for many, but I personally don’t enjoy getting my backside handed to me by a computer, I would suggest either nerfing them a smidge, or allowing players to match against specific difficulties of bot in matchmaking.

First off thank you, thr gameplay feels excellent and smooth.

Much like everyone else the progression is a major bummer right now… It’s not even necessarily the speed (3 levels in 6 or 7 hours isn’t ideal which is where I’m at) but it’s the fact that I spent 4 games trying to find and steal a chopper to get a kill with it and still wasn’t able to. Or that I kept grabbing the pulse carbine due to needing 3 kills with it. And then after I got a kill or 3 with it I didn’t complete the challenge (yes I know that’s a bug)

Mainly just seeing any progress however small on a per match basis would be extremely rewarding.

Also in regards to customizations. The armor core system is really not great. Not being able to mix Abe natch armor. Not being Able to use different colors for example the HCS bundles should unlock that color and any related armor pieces, rather than just being a preset.

This is a huge complaint that I have. So the challenges, not only is the progression extremely slow on the battlepass but some of the challenges are nearly impossible. Not because they are too hard, but because the game wont allow you to complete them. What I mean by this is, that the challenge cant be completed because of an RNG aspect in the game. For example I have 2 challenges that require me to fly a banshee or a wasp. The problem is, in BTB theres only a small chance that one of those will be brought in due to the RNG of spawning in either a warthog, chopper, banshee, etc. I have played roughly 30 games of BTB and only 1 wasp has spawned and before I could even get in it, the game ended. How am I supposed to complete challenges if the game wont even let me attempt it? Halo really needs to have game modes/ maps where those vehicles are readily available, or it needs to change up the challenges so that vehicles that require that much RNG wont be a required challenge.

can i join your clan please

343, First and foremost thank you for bringing us the next installment of the Halo franchise. I have played this game since childhood starting all the way back on halo 1. Now lets get down to the pros and cons.
pros:
-the game feels fresh, the game feels just like it did 10+ years ago, but it actually feels refreshed. Bringing classic Halo to the new era of gaming
-the game runs good. I have had very few connection issues or crashes for a freshly released game
-you can play with so many of your friends due to the FREE FACTOR.
cons:
-THIS IS HUGE. The battlepass is way too much grind. I currently have over 15 hours in the game and am only level 4 on the battlepass
-A lot of modes are missing. no infection, no grifball, NO FORGE. I understand these modes are on the way but from what it seems they won’t be here for a while

Please consider adding exclusive fullscreen and raw mouse input on PC!

I’d like to be able to check my challenges while I’m in-game. Sometimes I get into a game and I forgot which challenge I’m trying to do! Also no player collision makes melee fights awkward and frustrating as sometimes you’ll walk through each other. Maybe turn it off for teammates but turn it on for enemies?

I have a solution but more of an idea for the challenges. They should have made all Weekly Challenge open and not locked away as “Upcoming challenges.” This way you don’t have to keep playing BTB just to get Stockpile. i’m sure there are challenges for other btb mode. So you can work on the challenge for whatever mode you’re in.

As for the 3/4 Weekly challenges in the challenge menu, Change those to Daily challenges. If the players don’t like the Daily or Weekly challenges then they can use the Challenge Swap.

P.S. please PLEASE for the love of Halo, Chief and the Grunts Comm Officer, put a challenge menu in the Pause menu in multiplayer. I can never tell if i finished the damn challenge or not. Thank you for listen to this rant and have blessful day.

I would like to start off by saying Halo infinite is such a fun and amazing game I think everyone who worked on it did an amazing job. The bit of feedback I’d like to give is firstly I noticed in the campaign that sometimes when grappling over the cracks in the map my grapple wouldn’t work, it would shoot out latch on to the wall and then instantly disconnect, leading me to fall and die this is only a minor problem though so you don’t need to fix it if it isn’t that urgent. My next bit of feedback is the custom games, when I try to get into a game with bots there will either be no bots at all or the amount of bots in the game will not be the amount I set, it is rather frustrating but again it isn’t a major problem.

Lastly I just have a question about the cosmetics more specifically the Mark V(B) armour, is the line up of helmets that are currently on the helmet customization screen the only helmets that will be released for the Mark V(B) armour set.

Many thanks and happy holidays

I second this Motion. Another point to make is if i know Ive finished one I would like to see the next challenge that loads in.
