Postpone 360 server sunsetting

TrueSkill is ranking system and not the backend servers that host lobbies. I looked it up to make sure, its another outdated service that further impacts how they would work on a older Halo.

GTA 4’s online has the same name if not its the previous iteration of GTA 5’s GTA ONLINE product. I mean when I googled earlier and found out they were shutting down the service it was from Rockstar and they called it GTA Online for GTA 4, I’m not so privy on what the naming conventions of products back then because I haven’t played them in almost a decade.

You can actually unlock most achievements through System Link. But you really missed out on getting them when the game was active, you should get in the Master Chief Collection now and play while its still relevant because some years down the line you might see the same thing happening.

I don’t get why folks are in here pushing others to move onto MCC. 343 said they’d leave the servers up for people to play on, and we’re not to the sunset date yet. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect them to keep the servers up (and playable) until the sunset time since that’s what they said they would do.

The expectation vs the reality is completely different. Try working on a project that someone else made 15 years ago and try to keep it working while it is actively falling apart. I don’t know why you guys think 343 should pour tons of time into these games when in the end they’ll just end up shutting them down in 8 weeks. This is how the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

On one part, it is reasonable for the devs to make the legacy games’ server to at least be stable until the day when it’s going to go offline comes. On the other hand, I don’t see a reason for them to extend the deadline by six months due to the cost of maintaining the server, the age of the infrastructure and there’s hardly anyone playing the legacy titles nowadays.

All I can ask for them is to fix the stability of the servers until the scheduled day of shutting down. I’ve seen people missing out the 7 on 7th achievement because the servers were not functioning during the 7th day of November and October this year.

GTA IV’s multiplayer is not affected at all by GTA Online’s shutdown on the PS3 and Xbox 360 because that’s an entirely different game GTA Online is part of.

Problem with your argument: These Halo games on 360 aren’t supposed to get sunset until January of next year. There has no been no official word that they have been shut down early, either.

Incorrect, because XLink Kai cannot stand in for the matchmaking servers, which are required for multiple achievements, EXP, and skill ranking. Migrating files to MCC will not address these problems, either. Sure, tunneling is cool technology, but it won’t solve the problems afflicting legacy Halo, especially Halo 3.

If it is an Xbox Live issue, then why isn’t it acknowledged on the Xbox Live support website?

I can tell you with certainty that I’d be much happier if I could play Halo 3 online for little bit longer until the announced sunset date.

I’d like to emphasize that these servers have been suffering from these sorts of intermittent outages for the duration of the time since the sunset plan was first officially announced, which was about a year ago. Thus, I think it’s reasonable to ask for at least a few months of stable, reasonably-functional time with those servers.

Again we run in to an issue that if this issue is not a 343 Services issues(i.e an XboxLIVE Services Issue) than this isnt their responsibility. MS does not care that the servers are shutting down or not working. It sucks that they dont work but you cant expect them to do alot of labor for something that is a financial loss. Yes it will make people happy, but is it worth the labor that will have to be put in to keep servers up for 8 weeks. Let alone 6 months.

Also I would like to add, I do have achievements that I need to get in Multiplayer, and I am very disappointed knowing that I might not get to 100% Halo 3. However I also understand that 343i has bigger fish to catch than players 100% a game that came out almost 15 years ago. Be glad we got over twice the life span of Halo 2. We all made so many memories on this game, the only thing I truly hope is that 343 gets things working so we can have a great last day and send off Halo 3 with a bang. Thanks guys.

Everyone who defends situations like this, shows only that they themselves have such achievements and don’t care about others. 343 said that achievements will not be obtainable AFTER THE OFFICIAL CLOSURE OF SERVERS, which has not yet happened and there are 2 months left until then. People paying for Xbox Gold and all that bs but we can’t gain something what we want because of developer incompetence. WHY the hell they even stated that servers gonna be closed in January if WE CAN’T PLAY FOR RIGHT NOW? For what purpose is all this? If it was as you say, they should shut down the servers today and not posting anything on twitter because freakin why.

Yeah seriously. If they legit did not care at all, why bother extending the time?

I would tend to agree with most of what’s been said. I have most of the MP achievements to this point, so I’m good for the most part. My problem (specifically) is with Halo 4 servers. There will be nights where I’m trying to find a match, and end up spending most of my time restarting my consoles multiple times just to be able to search for matches. What’s the point of extending the server shutoff time if the servers are in a garbage state?? If they’re not going to maintain at least to the point where they’re playable, they might as well shut them down now since we can’t find matches anyway. They know we’re out here trying to play them… they just don’t care enough to put any work or effort behind maintaining them to a playable status. This shows how much they care about us… It’s definitely frustrating… It’d be nice if they do something about it… I just don’t think they will…

Thank you!

Exactly. It’s not a free game, and Xbox LIVE Gold isn’t free, either. Players paid actual money for these things. If they announced a sunset date until which the servers would be online, it’s on them to keep the servers online until that date. Simple as that.

You do realize that Microsoft owns the Halo IP, and that “343 Industries” is really just a specialized division of Microsoft for developing that IP, right? Microsoft has a net value in the trillions of dollars and a profit margin in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Microsoft may indeed not care about their Halo servers, but they very well should. Don’t delude yourself: They have more than enough capital funding to do what they want.

They chose the sunset date. They should have more than enough resources to stick to that commitment.

Why should they care about 15 year old servers. I am sorry, as much as I love Halo, I cannot justify putting money into servers that are literally older than my friends sibling. I get that we want this, put please never act like you are owed anything, that is the most pretentious thing in the world and you’re going to be very disappointed when reality buds its ugly head.

Act like I’m owed something? Like, oh, I don’t know, functional multiplayer servers for a game that requires a paid subscription in order to play multiplayer with those servers?

There is nothing entitled about wanting something you paid for to actually work.

They should care because:

  1. These servers require a paid Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. People spent money to be able to use them.
  2. The sunset announcement declared that the servers would remain online until the official sunset date, which would be no sooner than December. Clearly, that has not been the case. Allowing these servers outages to be prolonged and recurring essentially negates the sunset announcement’s declaration that the servers would be online until at least December of this year. They defined the sunset date and plan; they need to hold up their end of that commitment.
  3. Multiple Halo 3 achievements are tied to the matchmaking servers. Once those servers go down, they will be locked forever. Thus, it’s for the sake of the franchise fans to give them time to get those achievements (and whatever else they can in matchmaking) before turning off the servers, and fair notice of an official sunset date for those servers. Due to the recurring server outages and issues for the duration of time since the sunset announcement, this has not happened.
  4. Halo 3 was an absolutely huge success, and is/remains the best-selling Halo game of all time. Halo 3 and its players built Xbox 360 Xbox LIVE into what it is today. Giving Halo 3 a good send-off season is perfectly reasonable, considering how much the game and its community delivered to Microsoft for so long. Even Halo 2 and the severely-compromised original Xbox LIVE had a better send-off year than Halo 3 has had thus far. Yes, I would go so far as to say that Microsoft owes that to the old Halo 3 community.
  5. As Microsoft products, both Halo 3 and its servers are Microsoft’s responsibility. Negative conditions or outages of the functionality of those products negatively impacts Microsoft’s customer satisfaction and general reputation. While there are certain things that are clearly out of their power, maintaining their servers until an official sunset is absolutely within their power and moreover responsibility.

@Depluralize I don’t think talking to him makes any sense. You have described the whole situation beautifully and there is nothing to questioning here. We just want to play freakin game so let 343 speak on that! It’s whole week right now.

Im going to say one final thing, the true reality of the situation whether you want to hear it or not. Microsoft does NOT care about at 14 1/2 year old game. That is not the focus of their maintenance on XboxLIVE. Their focus is on modern XboxLIVE titles. If this outage was on MCC or Sea of Thieves, or Gears 4 or 5, the issue would be resolved overnight, I promise you there is no more than 5 people looking into this issue. This isn’t some big product for microsoft anymore, it was 10 years ago, but ever since MCC came out MS and 343i have been setting less and less people to work on these services, youre complaining about an outage on a product that was developed 14 years ago, its okay to be sad and upset that its going away or not working when it should be, but if you think this should be anywhere near 343is or XboxLIVEs top priorities you’re living in 2007 still.

Haha they somehow fixed 2 weeks ago Black Ops 2 from 2012 which is 9 and half years old game. You can? You can.

I promise you there is no more than 5 people looking into this issue.

No there is much, much more alongside trueachievements community, twitter and xbox support page believe me.

COD players living still in 2012 but guess what? They can play and enjoy multiplayer still. Just stop defending and saying that game is over 10 years old because IT’S DOESN’T MATTER. Everything were fine since one week ago - they propably did something when moving onto new waypoint site. Even Halo 4 is affected.

Just read this from top to the bottom and stop giving pointless answers:

January 13, 2022, Xbox 360 game servers for Halo games will be turned off (sunsetting the service). This means that while these games can still be played, online services such as challenges and file share will no longer be available. The Xbox 360 versions of the following games will be affected:

I think when they sunset the games I will ask MS for a refund due to half the game for each sunset game being unplayable. Worth a go.
