As the title says, post your ideas for Spartan Abilities that 343 could use in Halo 5.
Oh, yeah… oooooh, yeeeeeeeeeah… button combos!
Well, I will say that we should never, ever take anything in a CGI trailer as proof, that ground pound looking move we saw I would like to see i game. Maybe something you could try to pull off after ejecting/being hijacked from a Banshee or landing from a Man Cannon.
If fall damage returns, I would like to see this ability move to alter your falling height to your advantage, causing more damage and power the farther you fall.
-Sliding! This could be a cool skill tactic to try and master.
-Sprint. Please don’t kill me, I can has opinion.
Well as far as movement abilities go I hope that they are closer to the thruster pack rather than a slide.
I like the thruster pack because it doesn’t affect the hitbox quite as much as evade did.
The only thing that has me slightly nervous is the ‘ground pound’. Obviously a CGI trailer should be taken with a grain of salt, I see a lot of problems with a mechanic like that. If their is a ‘ground pound’ mechanic than it should absolutely not have any AOE damage/force. I can easily see an AOE attack like that becoming irritating really quickly.
I could see it as 1.) A way to quickly drop down faster than you usually would, 2.) A momentum/timing based precision attack when dropping right on someone does some extra damage. Still it is something that makes me nervous.
That said if the ‘spartan abilities’ are tied to something like a default thruster pack I won’t mind it, especially if it were to replace sprint.
Apart from the CGI trailer we’ve seen, I’d appreciate to see the Hologram returning as a Spartan ability.
Recently I had an idea, that you can choose which weapon your hologram has. (For example your hologram holds a rocket launcher even if u don’t have one yourself)
This could help in certain situations, if your hologram holds a sword or rocket launcher it may shock your opponent for a short period of time, so u can react better. Just a thought tough.

Well, not exactly…
It can be used to trick opponents and AI for a short time if you use it efficiently.
Anyhow I think that an evade ability would b useful(like thruster pack). It would require some skill and good placement to be used efficiently for sure. Obviously for your evasion, you have to give up a few precious seconds of firing or melee.

Yet I often see players who’d shoot holograms like crazy haha
It looks like thrusters will be a SA. Nothings final, but I really hope it is. Thrusters is the best new thing added to Halo 4 gameplay. I’d love for it to replace sprint.
Thrusters areca no no for me. They seem like Sprint but even more unnatural, if everybody is to have it. I’d very much have the Spartan abilities be limitex because if you had everyone throwing holograms and thrusting all over the place then -Yoink- would be Chaos.
I think Frankie said something alone the lines of the “abilities” not being loadout based or armor abilities, but more like jacking and dual wielding from Halo 2.
A few things I would like to see:
A buddy jump where one Spartan boosts off of another one to get a kind of double jump - useful for getting to hard to reach places and Banshee jacks.
Melee Combat being tweaked so that if two characters melee each other and they clash it becomes a kind of minigame where they enter hand-to-hand combat and projectile/outside damage wouldn’t affect them as much.
So you’d be seeing actual sword duels, and instead of two people punching each other twice, it’d be about 1-2 seconds of blocks and hits followed by the winner of the duel assassinating the opposing Spartan or at the very least beating them to death.
Being able to tag enemy players so that others can see them for a short time.
Next couple ones are a bit out there…
Maybe some form of cover system - not as crazy as Gears, but more like if you crouch next to some sort of object it will take you into a different kind of mode where you can use it as cover.
The ability to repair vehicles if you have more than one person with you.
Some kind of quick-chat or taunt system you can use.
A more advanced respawn system where you can see where each of your team-mates are, and if there’s more than one of them together, you can spawn on them if they’re in a safe zone.
and/or
“Spawn Towers” in maps that are designated respawn zones that you can choose between, like the areas in Invasion
If you’re brought close to death but don’t die (maybe one sliver of health left) you sort of go into last man for a short amount of time as your medi-gel goes into overdrive, and you can crawl, shoot, or detonate a grenade - but an enemy can execute you.
This might be a far stretch, but being able to temporarily neutralize enemy players - shooting them in the legs might make them stumble, shooting their arms would make their aim go way off, and maybe sneaking up on them you have a way to silence their mics and put them out of action for a small amount of time without killing them, allowing you to pull of stealth a bit better in certain situations.
Last but not least, T-Bagging a corpse more than 10 times within any amount of time would set off a massive explosion, killing anyone nearby, because that would be hilarious.

I call being able to Tbag while still being able to move about with your business is a pretty nifty use.

Lol not really, play some team slayer and use hologram. It fools so many players it’s not even funny. Once I had this guy chase my hologram off the map in adrift. Another time one guy chased it until it disappeared. Don’t let me get started on how easy it is to fool people to assassin them.
Spartan Abilities sound like they will consist of button combos.
My theory is this:
Deault Sprint is replaced with Default Thruster. Click in the Left stick and point it in a direction to Thrust the said direction. Pressing certain buttons would allow new attacks.
Example: Thrusting directly into an opponent and pressing the ‘B’ button at a certain distance will cause your Spartan to 'Ram the opposing player.
Provided that 343 makes these abilities avaliable to everyone, Regardless of Rank/Skill, And that they require timing and precision to pull off. I can see these working.
I’ve already said it several times, but hey, repetition can only help:
[/li]- Thrusters as a default ability for every player
- Press LB to boost in the plane perpendicular to the ground
- You will move in the direction you’re facing unless you select a direction with LS
- While in the air, press A to double jump, i.e. thrust straight up
- Pressing A and selecting a direction with LS will boost you up in that direction at a 45-degree angle
- Holding LB while in midair will boost you straight down
- You can shoot, melee and throw grenades while boosting
- Cool down timer of 10 seconds between thrusts
