After the end of Halo 5, this always bugged me. Since the Guardians are on the loose, what will the overall Galaxy be like? Will the UNSC be like the COG in Gears Of War 3 during the Lambent Pandemic or something else entirely? Also, how is this gonna effect the Swords Of Sanghelios and The Banished? Discuss now!
I believe that’s why Halo 6 is coming out to tell us the answer. As of now, we don’t have very much, so it’s all speculation.
I think the UNSC took the brunt of the Guardian attacks because they are really the only current faction that uses and relies on A.I. like Roland and (formerly) Cortana etc. So it seems to me like Evil Cortana has her biggest issue with humans.
Sangheli are probably in the best position to help, even with their civil war going on. They’re probably going to do the most to help save the galaxy.
The Banished will keep doing their thing, and cause a lot of trouble for everyone. They might even take advantage of all the confusion and mayhem to further their own agenda.

The Flood is getting beauty sleep.
The Didact is busy being composed/stuck in character limbo.
And finally The Chief n friends are chilling on Sanghelios wondering how they’ll stop a army of giant robo owls.

I don’t know If you like to read but Halo Fractures has a story titled, “Rossbach’s World” which talks about what Admiral Osman and Admiral Hood did during the initial Guardian attack on earth and where they are weeks later. Like others above I would have to assume Cutter and the Banished are still duking it out on the Arc. I believe we should be getting Halo Wars 2 campaign DLC so hopefully that will divulge some details. As for the rest of the UNSC i would assume most of their naval assets during the attack by the Guardian’s or by the AI’s that aligned with the Cortana’s “created”. I’m sure the UNSC/UEG still has a significant ground force left meanwhile the Infinity is sneaking around and a formulating plan. The SOS are most likely going to aid Fireteam Osirus and Blue Team as they take on Cortana and whatever remnant Covenant factions are out there will either help the SOS or attempt to align with the created. I believe we will find various human factions will join Cortana. There are several insurrectionist groups and thousands of civilians that would more than likely join her. The universe is in a state of turmoil and I am interested to see how this epic story unfolds.
We are really in the dark. We know that Cortana wants to control the galaxy and attacked a lot of UNSC worlds but we don’t know how successful she has been. She controls the Sol System and has apparently not moved on Sanghelios. She seems unable to control every human world like Meridian and companies like Dormund can go about normal business. So she doesn’t control the entire galaxy. Infinity seemed to think it couldn’t retreat to any friendly worlds.
Plus there is a lot of ambivalence and confusion over Cortana’s plan. Does she want to rule the galaxy or is she planning on killing everyone? How is occupation of human worlds going to work?
I think the general set up will be that Cortana controls most of human space and the UNSC is conducting a guerilla war against her. I think her making a move against the Former Covenant will be a big part of Halo 6.
Iam guessing they might clarify some of this post E3 but TBH people at the various panels have an annoying habit of not asking that question. I mean per IGN they think she just has that Array and a few Guardians with the sole intent of killing everyone. They might even do a “State of the Galaxy” vid to promote Halo 6.
