Okay; now I would like to point out I am no expert on networking when it comes to video games, but I do have a decent background in networking and servers as I am a Server Engineer.
What I found is after playing a game, you get stuck in what seems like a lobby with yourself, this is what prevents you from finding a match until the gray boxes appear under you while you search for a game. This can be seen if you follow these steps.
Press X to bring up the roster- Press up to select “My game session”- Press A
You can now see like shown here, player count is 1, but the game leader is I will treaty I Seeing how my gamertag is xXF0DxeLeMeNtxx (X’s 4 dayz) and am currently the only one in the game session; this does not add up. A search of my past game shows that I was in a MM game with I will treaty I. This is what leads my to believe that some how we are being stuck in what looks like a “dummy?” lobby of a sort. More evidence can be seen when I go to theater to watch a clip.
Seems likely. I noticed early on that when I backed out as far as I could in the menu, then tried again I got better results. I just checked “my game session” and similar realized I was in a dummy sections. So I backed out to main menu, returned to matchmaking,my dummy session ended and I was the session leader again.
Backing out does not seem to fix the issue for me. What does is either backing out of the game completely by pressing the guide button, then start then quit. Or starting a custom game and quitting it. That probably explains why some people are having luck doing that. So this wont help increase match time, but it will help you acquire the search boxes needed to find a match.
Been noticing the same thing, it becomes even more evident we’re getting stuck in weird lobby scenarios when you party up with people on your friends list. Especially when they can’t join your game because it says they’re already in your game on Xbox Live Party chat, also you sometimes get the “party is full” error when it’s only the host in the lobby, which also leads me to believe our gamer tags are hanging in old lobbies too.
Some times my buddies will try joining a lobby and get immediately thrown into former party members lobby without prompting them.
Edit: and your video is exactly what I’m describing. So I’m with you OP pretty sure exactly what the OP describes in the video is the big issue messing everyone over.
Sometimes backing right the way out as far as campaign selecting a game e.g. halo 2 selecting missions then going back into multiplayer helps you find a game quickly. Don’t really understand why.
It’s probably because you’re resetting the lobby somehow by backing out that far, I bet if you launched a custom and came out you’d reset the part too. I think this is why so many people are having to restart their client to get going in MM again too, it’s just getting you out of those old lobbies.
Yea I had this happen before and you definitely won’t get games while that is going on. I tend to find myself backing out to the campaign lobby a lot to bring up them grey searching boxes.
Yea, that’s what I said in my post, I am pretty sure starting a custom then quitting gives you a new lobby, that’s why people are getting their search boxes back. I still think force quitting from the dashboard is the fastest way.
Does the privacy setting “friends only” and “invite only” restrict your search to just playing with your friends? These are the only two options I have…and have never matched in a game…
Do you guys have noticed the amount of conection the game “eats” ?, I mean look in your xbox go to settings/ network/ bandwith usage. My report says that in an hour of just searching for matches and maaayyyyyyybe playing 1 or 2 games (obviously I`m not downloading or streaming anything else in the console) the average count of MB is100-150MB of bandwidth usage per hour, is’nt that like TOOOO MUCH??? just think about it, it’s downloading 2.5Mb every minute… WHY??. 10 years ago I used to play just fine on green bar with little lag even when being in Mexico and paired in a p2p mostly with americans for matchmaking on a 1Mb/s conection, why now in 2014 in a 10Mb is almost impossible to get a lag free match, and I MEAN UNPLAYABLE LAG, like 1 1/2 second behind in dedicated servers.

No, that is just you in the lobby prior to finding a match.

It was very easy to understand you Tio, but yes I just checked mine and I have almost 1 gb in the last hour? I have not played a game at all; but I have been trying. Good thing my ISP does not charge by the MB!
