Possible Reason Why Covenant Are Against Us

Here is a exert from a IGN hands-on impression of Spartan Ops:

We got to see an early mock-up of the first episode in which Majestic Squad suits up in Spartan armor onboard the Infinity, flies past a massive Star Wars-caliber space battle in a smaller vessel, and attempts to stop Covenant forces from reaching an artifact on Requiem. This faction of Covenant believes that one of their gods resides on the planet, which is occupied with some version of the Forerunners called the Promethians. While Spartan Ops takes place on the same planet as the campaign, 343 promises that unique level designs and geometry separates the two modes in the vast majority of cases.

So the Covenant believe that a ancient god of theirs is on Requiem. This would lead to them attacking the Chief in the beginning and why they look to have sided with the Promethians in the campaign gameplay.

Seems legit.

What about Abiding Truth? Are they the faction?

btw nice find.

No, There are still some Elites that don’t like Humans.

Makes sense.

All post-H3 canon has pointed out how the Elites are basically without a goal in their lifes after the Covenant fell apart, their religion proved to be false and not fighting the UNSC anymore.
If the more religious fundamentalistic Elites would find out about actual living Forerunners that might prove there is a truth in the Covenant religion, they would definately try to get to that and fight mankind over that object or whatever it will be.
Simply because it would give them a goal in their lifes.

Besides: the Elite-UNSC alliance is very weak with all the different factions with different agendas on both sides.
Having this faction fighting mankind doesn’t mean the Arbiter’s faction is on the same boat.
Should make an interesting story. Arby trying to hold everything together with the UNSC, while ONI is messing around behind the scenes and an anti-humanity faction of the Elites finding a new religious purpose for all Elites/Covenant. How would Arby react to that?

How would he react?

“I’ve had enough of this -Yoink-”

It didn’t really look to me like the Covenant had sided with the Prometheans. I mean, wasn’t that Elite vaporized by a Promethean?

Interesting. Maybe in the next Halo book Thursday War we’ll get more insight to why the Sangheili are now back to being in the Covenant. For now Glasslands told us what is going on but we need more info. The book will be out in Oct.
